Ahaha :D So true. I remember hearing a call-in show on the radio asking whether New Yorkers or New Jerseyans were worse drivers. It got really heated. Sometimes our two states are like siblings fighting over toys and who's stinkier. :D
I think a lot of times the reason people in poor states are so happy is that they realize that a person does not have to have "things" to be happy. Friends and family is what counts.

Wise words! Because states are just areas of land with bounded by man made demarcation or either a natural made border.. populated by the citizens thereof. and just as there is good and bad, success and failure in each of us - that goes for states too - I have noticed some with zero violence but on the other hand, nearly unbearable weather! Cant win em all! :)
"You can't disagree with the methodology" This methodology is rather flimsy and assumes that you share some of the creator's very personal preferences. 1. How are low home prices an inherent disadvantage? Many people, especially young people, consider affordability to be a plus. High cost does not necessarily mean high quality. In many jurisdictions, it's more a reflection of local/state government's burdensome land-use, zoning, and architectural standards and the way in which it artificially restricts housing supply. 2. Why does the creator assume that most people would agree with him that low population density is a negative (many people find it to be a plus)? 3. Tax burden is not factored into the analysis. Median income not accounting for tax burden is an asinine statistic when assessing the "quality" of a state. People care about how much they actually get to keep. 4. You have to be careful when you interpret state-level crime, poverty, etc statistics. These rates can very wildly from one part of a state to another, and jurisdictions with very high (but unusual compared to the rest of the state) rates can throw off the aggregate statistics. Winsorization of a data set broken down by county or by city (although that would not account for unincorporated areas) might be appropriate in some cases (possibly accompanied by an explanation of what factors might have led outlier cities/towns/counties to have such high crime/poverty/etc rates, and possible reasons why this may or may not be a reflection on the quality of the state as a whole).
Well said... This seems to be put together by a brainwashed college student mentioning random facts that fit a liberal bias. I'm sure his political science teacher is proud of him.
We have a cheap homes in Oklahoma but the problem is the wages when you make low wages you still struggle paying them if you look at Most states the higher the minimum wage the higher the housing it's all the same you'll struggle with low wages with low housing in a way it all balances out the rich get richer and the poor get poorer
I live in Los Angeles. The LA times says CA is #1 in poverty. #1 in wage disparity. We have the highest taxes, a housing shortage { Tiny one bedroom apartment in Silverlake $2995.00 a month } High crime, overcrowded schools. Los Angeles has 31, 513 homeless people nightly. We have the forth worst commute in America at 28.9 minutes taken by 84.2% of the population. CA has 7 of the top 10 cities with the worst air quality. People poop all over the sidewalks in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. # California! Worst state to live in. Trust me.

Your only option for Mexican food in Arizona is Phoenix? What the hell you talking about. Come to Tucson, the Mexican food capital of the west. You need a fact checker.
These people need some serious fact checking. You can't swing a dead cat in southern AZ without hitting a real Mexican Restaurant with amazing Sonoran beef.
For Authentic Mexican food go behind the resorts in Cozumel to the third world, one can not only "go back in time" to where there was no electricity or running water, but can get an authentic tortilla made with flour and water made in an oven in the front yard of a house made out of cardboard!
The bias in this video is pretty evident. The stats mentioned depend on the sources they were retrieved from. The cost of living was never mentioned. You can do better.
I moved from Minnesota (on your best states list) to Tennessee and I couldn't be happier. I make the same money here but with the much lower cost of living my quality of life is substantially better. I can actually enjoy my hobbies now.
My Mom, Step-Dad, brother and sister-in-law lived in Kingsport, TN for a couple of years, they ended up moving back to Southern Illinois, they said, the jobs didn't pay very well and their homes were much more expensive than they'd ever seen. My brother and sister-in-law are educated with degrees but weren't satisfied with pay versus careers.
Tennessee is bad??? I was actually advised to move there after graduating college. California has more crime than Arizona......and I'm still puzzled why California isn't on the list🤤
April Harmony - I hope you’re not thinking of taking that advice. I’ve lived in 7 states, in 4 regions of the country, and Tennessee was my least favorite, by far. There are other beautiful states with much more to offer.
T306 41 - WTF?! April wasn’t being nasty; she simply made a comment. Don’t add to the vitriol so pervasive online today. It’s unnecessary and doesn’t get us anywhere! I'm not done with college yet at all but I'm predicting that I will be single and without kids so I want to move somewhere that will allow me to jump start my life. I also heard that that the cost of living was low so that attractive to me.

This. Plus some of Phoenix is pretty crappy. The city is just too big, traffic is bad, the air is bad, some dumpy suburbs, or clone track home neighborhoods, etc. But a lot of Arizona is beautiful and far more diverse than people realize. Lots of neat towns dot the state as well.
I'd like to inform you that in Mississippi, the reason that wages are so low is because the cost of living is low. We have resources to provide locally so nothing is really expensive here. A person working at McDonalds here can live a 3 bedroom house comfortably... Ask my brother lol

Fish, this video isn’t titled the “Top Ten Most Dangerous States.” It’s actually titled the “America’s Worst States.” And by no means am I saying that South Carolina is the best state, what I am saying is that a states quality should not be based by their crime rates and how good their online dating statistics are.
Taxifornia is the worst place to live. It used to be the best. If we didn't have enough gangs already, well, they just import them from destitute countries - not legally, of course. I lived in Sevierville, Tennessee for 5 years and had no problems with crime. My husband left the keys in the front door several times and no one attempted to break in! AND we lived in a trailer park! And as far as South Carolina, I grew up there, in Greenville. Unfortunately, that has gone downhill A LOT as far as crime. It's sad to see my home state the way it is today. Spartanburg is now called Murderburg and Anderson is just as bad. South Carolina does have very beautiful towns, though. The one good thing I can say about Greenville is that the jobs are plentiful and they pay well. More businesses are moving in all the time, too. So if someone is looking for a job, they will find one.

I don't usually give much thought to these "state ranking" comparisons but I have to give Nick here a bit of credit pointing out that there are good things in some of these states. Making individual choices based on a collective prespective you will have a very hard time finding a good fit.
I drove cross country (which all Americans should do) and it made me apppreciate what a beautiful country we live in. People come from far away to experience the beauty of America. That said, it's the greedy governmental and private corporate policies have made citizens take no pride...joblessness and little to no opportunities create poverty and crime which we see in a lot of states today. America is becoming a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I'm a native Floridian and I would see no advantage to moving to Idaho. It has mountains and lots of trees going for it. But it is very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Mainly what we struggle with in Florida is 6 mos of unrelenting heat and humidity. But at least the winters are mild. Floridians live for winter and I don't think that most states can make that claim.

Probably because California is the best state in America. Minus the cost of living in certain cities and the outbreak of libtards, its a grest state..this is coming from someone who's lived in tons of states including Texas..
Yeah taxes are really the only thing bad about the golden state. Homeless problem isn't actually that bad neither is crime. The only bad places are Sactown, Fresno, Stockton, and San Bernardino.
@None of your Buisness It really is! It's just what happened to Detroit this past decade. But the great lakes, and beautiful northern cities are so safe.
You can go to any state and find the worst neighborhood for a video. For example: You could go to California and find whole neighborhoods living in tents, Motor homes and campers parked on the side streets because of the homeless problem, You can enjoy a day at the beach as long as you wear shoes, you might step on a dirty needle . Oh and be sure to pick up one of those poop maps so you know where the homeless poop. You don't want to get any of that on your shoes. Not to mention the overly high taxes and the thousands you can pay monthly for a studio apartment. That California toilet never made the top ten list!
Is it just because California is expensive and has alot of homeless? Does California have whole towns that have died like Mississippi and Arkansas? Florida doesn't have as many homeless, but they have miles of trailer parks, and most of those have blue tarps on their roof permanently, and look completely dilapidated.
I’m from NM and it’s all in relation to population. We are one of the least populated states on there. If we have crime, it gets looked at as higher because our population is so small. Yes there are major cons to living here, but I also think there is a lot of pros!
I dont like Illinois. Moved in fact. But people, ex rpt for certain spots do well, there are very good schools in many areas, leople in the suburbs are pretty rich and snobby about it, people have health insurance more than in Mississippi, there is a lot to do,house prices are high exvept in those ghetto spots and downl south in more rural Illinois, and crime ex ept in parts of Chicago isnt bad. So I dont like Illinois but its not a bad state by important standards. Not too friendly though.
Wrong. Californiais tje 8th biggest economy in the world. Mississippi is probably behind Africa. Lots of wealth there and education. Snobs too! New York also has much of what CA has. Cant win em all! :)
@@valfletcher9285 What state has zero violence?
"You can't disagree with the methodology"
This methodology is rather flimsy and assumes that you share some of the creator's very personal preferences.

Have had surpluses with those tax rates. How many Southern states can say that?
High taxes argument as usual but without context. What do they go to? Are they paying for libraries, public roads, schools, police, fire rescue, electrical grids/public utilities, Garbage/sewer?

Governor Christie a liberal????? He recently left office after 8 years of conservative republican rule. The pendulum swings both ways ...after a while people get sick of democratic B.S and come to their senses.

I live in NJ,, I have my complaints but wages are good, housing in the South is cheap, schools are ranked #1 in the Country. The shopping is world class and everything is conveniently located nearby...certainly not the worst of States.
The Western part of NJ is nice.
💯 the worst state in the nation.
By all other reports, California is the worst place to live in.
I have lived in these states-this vid just is biased.
It's all well and good to make lists of the "worst" states, Nick -- but if you travel to these states, even the really "bad" ones like Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama -- you'll find that there are some very good people there who are absolutely devoted to their state.
There is good and bad in each state -- and little treasures to be found and visited inside each one of those states.
I'm not fond of Mississippi, but I do like Hattiesburg and the cities along the Gulf Coast. Similarly, I love Mobile, Alabama which is a gorgeous city. One of the very best restaurants I know is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

To give an example of the difference between Arizona and California, I have a teacher that just moved out of California and now lives in Arizona and she told us that her house which was a decent size was the same amount as a mansion in AZ

I'd like to visit Norway but not live there.
Why do you assume everywhere outside of the USA is inferior to the worst places in the US? I'd gladly consider living someplace like Australia or Canada, but the transition so late in my life would perhaps not work in my favor.
Because Nick says these are the worst places does not mean he is right. I'm proud to be an American and do not want to live anywhere else.
Don Dacus What other countries have you lived in? Btw, did you know the US is way down on the list of countries in the world re quality of life? Just saying . . .

All of these statistics are irrelevant . What good will it do you living in a state with where you earn more income if the cost of living is sky high ? The term "poverty level " has little meaning either. Those people in "poor " areas have way more discretionary income that places like CA , NJ or NY .

"Worst" is objective. As a former northerner (Pa) living in the south (Sc), I love it. There's a reason the northern states continue to lose population, while southern states gain. Maybe you should find out why.

Fake Account I like Florida. The sunshine and happy tourists cover up all the bad stuff.
Fake Account There are a few good ones but I can say I agree with you for a lot of states...
