I agree. Although I didn't watch him play during his time, I've always been amazed at how he treats the newer generations in the NBA. I mean he won 11 titles, but I've never seen him declare himself the greatest, nor belittle other players. That takes a special person to stay that humble despite that amount of success.

What a remarkable human being whose name symbolize Perseverance, Tenacity, and Integrity on and off the court.
An example of what every "man" should aspire to be.
Bold and Intrepidly speaking out against Racism and Bigotry; even if it meant facing the possibility of losing financial wealth, Fame, livelihood, or even your life itself.

John Edgar Wideman wrote about my dad protecting him in Mellon Park in Pittsburgh in Brothers and Keepers. There was an excerpt in Sports Illustrated at the time I was a cadet at West Point where I met my fair skinned African American husband. Although my dad literally had a familiar demon, I visited him in prison while in med school. He was one of few who did not mention the issue of race when speaking of my husband at the time. Wideman addressed him as Reds in his book. Because my dad shot and killed my mom, we ended up in the projects primarily surrounded by blacks and I remember MLK's I have a dream speech being shown at assemblies every year at Roger's Elementary. I came to judge by character and not skin color. My ex husband was Jewish and I hadn't understood who Jesus was growing up and in a foster home in high school did not want to rock the boat asking questions that might upset my foster parents. I will tell you Martin Luther King Jr got his strength by knowing Jesus as Lord and savior which I have only come to know fully in the last few years. I hope Bill Russell knew Christ Jesus, begotten of the Father, before he passed. I am saddened when people confess to be Christians but yet will not publicly give glory to the King of Kings. We live in age of great deception. I hope all black men from that older generation find everlasting peace.
