  • Speaker: Dan Deacon
Absurdist composer and electronic musician, Dan Deacon, is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Musically influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Danʼs music strives to take contemporary experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities, placing it into the more informal "fun time." His high-energy performances consist of song-structured material performed with Casio keyboard, computer, vocoder and many whosits and whatsits to process his voice and signal generator. He is currently working with Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola on the score for his new film, "Twixt Now and Sunrise."
    Host: Anthony McCarthy
For more than a decade McCarthy has been a constant voice in journalism, public policy circles, and Maryland's progressive faith community. Whether as the host of three award-winning radio talk shows, as an aide to numerous national and local political leaders, or as a national speaker and lecturer on contemporary political and social issues, McCarthy has been engaged in informing, empowering and improving his community. Organizer: Mel Brennan
TEDxBaltimore's lead organizer, Mel is formerly a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology at Towson University (MD, USA) and is currently District Executive Center Director for Baltimore City with the Y of Central Maryland. About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is so damn human, I feel like all these people became family by the end of it. Really amazing how everyone just let go of their insecurities and just had a blast with it.

This is by far the best thing I’ve seen. Everyone just joins and tags along leaving all insecurities and worries behind

I seriously hoped he talked about something. He didn't, but it was great anyway. I'm sure everybody there felt good, and happy, for solid 20 minutes. If that's not amazing, a great gesture, I don't know what would be it.
