    Hello Umberto! I'm so glad I stopped in my tracks and had a cup of coffee while watching this today :) I am looking forward to the continuation regarding bee nutrition. The Global Patties, are they the Global Patties that are associated with Hive Alive? Scott Dara mentioned them in his recent discussion. I think they are the same. You are absolutely right, environmental resources play a very heavy role in how effective these supplements will be. Thank you as always! :)

      I did many trials before. Many of them I never publish. One of the fundamental problems with honey bee research is the inability to control the variables in the wild.

      Fred, I just got my Pollen Patties from Hive Alive. I am very curious as to the results I'll see this year. They have Hive Alive fondant on now and will transition to syrup with the liquid Hive Alive and use the Pollen Patties as well.

      Fred, the Global Patties used in Randy’s study are made by a company called Global Patties. They have been in business since 2002. They partnered with Hive Alive for their version of a Global patty. Hive Alive added their liquid supplement and seaweed extracts to the Global Patty. I order my Global Patties from BetterBee and the bees devour it.

    By the way, I asked Randy if the Ultra Bee in this trial was the new or old formula… and he said the trial was in fact done using the modified formula! So the poor results are NOT applicable to the original formula that performed so well in his previous pollen substitute study!
    Furthermore, according to Mann Lake they had switched an ingredient (yeast) because of a lack of availability… but claimed that the Ultra Bee currently available is now back to the original formula.

  • @amymusante9220
    @amymusante9220 2 года назад +1

    I recently talked to Mann Lake regarding their ultra bee formula because I had heard it through the grapevine that the formula had changed. They put me on a long hold when they returned they told me that they had been unable to get the exact yeast that they used in their original formula, but that recently they had been able to obtain it again and that all the stock they had now (at least in Pennsylvania) has been switched back to the original ingredients.
    I wonder if Randy used the “interim” formula of Ultra bee?? 🤔

    Hi Umberto, is this paper available on the web? I would like to read it. As you state, these data conflict with randy's previous work as well as other historical data. Bees live in a multivariate world so it should not be a surprise. The question becomes, what was different about this study.

    • @InsideTheHiveTV
      @InsideTheHiveTV  2 года назад

      The link for the article is in the video description. Agreed , what was the difference?

      @@InsideTheHiveTV Umberto, I'm really looking forward to your deep dive into this paper. I hope you do it live to allow real time Q&A. Three things pop out to me from reading the paper. 1. Pollen is very diverse in protein (total and amino acid composition) and micronutrients yet the pollen source is not mentioned in the M&M; 2. There is an inverse correlation between leucine content and consumption (but the pollen is a confounding agent in this treatment); 3. The hypothesis under test is multivariate in nature, a multivariate statistical analysis may be more insightful. I will be interested in your thoughts.

    Perhaps bees need a choice. over here in south West Australia the Corymbia calophylla is one of the best natural autumn pollens with choice honey, but even with a multitude of natural pollensand and abundant necter the bees seem to fall back in numbers before i move them to the calophylla that grows closer to the coast on more fertile soil. So interesting perhaps one amino acid is missing

    Dr. Bee. Look forward to the follow up. I believe one of the avenues for healthy, disease and pest resistant bees will be discovered in the alchamey of honey. I had family that worked on a veel farm. The calves were alive but not healthy.

    You mention how in the lab the protein to fat ratio did not match what was experienced in field. Bees do experience a physiological change based on the season, the fat body winter bees. I'm wondering if this is what we're seeing in these initial charts? I'm looking forward to the next video because this is the quality science presentation we don't see much of. Thank-you.

      There so much more to say. Thank you for your thoughts. That helps. The field didn't match the expectation from the we had from the lab results. We need to take a look on what kind of bees were used for the lab experiment (what season bees?). Thank you for your kind words.

    • @researcherAmateur
      @researcherAmateur 2 года назад

      What l meant is that it must be difficult to replicate behavior in a lab.. bees react to the stress. It's so easy to change their "willpower" with just a little stress. All kinds of it in beekeeping. People don't even realize it

    • @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog
      @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog 2 года назад +2

      I have no problem with cost savings, as a commercial beekeeper, cost ranks at the top. There was something that happened within that trial that dosent make sense. The highest protein and highest fats did poorly. That should be the other way around. Something else happened within that study
