They can't say they don't use waistcapes for consistency when rex has arms prints. That is inconsistent. They are just making excuses
The whole waistcape debaucle is just a bunch of stupid excuses to maximize profit margins. 1: minifigs can sit with waist capes, OG Rex can literally sit down with his on the set box. 2: other themes have waistcapes, and Dreamzzz is obviously aimed towards kids. Leave waistcapes as an option at least, Lego is already experiencing massive profit margins, increase your quality ffs.
Meanwhile the fig in the Dune Ornithopter has a massive waistcape. How will anyone ever figure out how to put it on that fig?
@@FabuBrik Oh but that set's 18+ so it's NOT for kids. Oh but don't criticise anything about it because it's just a toy for kids so stop nitpicking! But the UCS Venator was 18+ too, and DIDN'T come with a waist cape. All joking aside, LEGO and their staunchest defenders really are just running in circles with these arguments, so when people brush it all off with "manchildren complaining about toys" they're just licking the corporate boot.

Thanks for your efforts in bridging the gaps between the fans and the designers. It would be great if LEGO themselves did this and we got more interaction than once a year at best, but we all appreciate the communication that you're providing with this visit.
Yeah some sort of Lego forum where they can have designers answering questions every now and then would be great, I know that would be hard as Legos official website is very geared towards children and online safety etc
@@nathonso_edits Even just a community manager would do so well for them. Offload the child safety to another platform like Twitter. Basically every other company is doing this and LEGO is so far behind since they have a monopoly and no pressure from competitors.
I understand the child online safety on their own website, but as a brand you cannot push 18+ hard and then simultaneously treat those fans like children.
At this point, there are just two sets that I really want to see:
- UCS MTT (from Episode 1, with a droid deploying system)
- a $120 Jango Fettt's Starfighter aka the blue Slave 1

@@Nio744 unless you mean landing on Degobah, the escape pod is part of Yoda being with Gree on Kashyyyk. Not for $35, but you could have a set with a Wookie hut, the escape pod, Yoda, 2 Wookies, Gree, and a 41st trooper.

Regardless of the complaints of Lego Star Wars, I think it's really great that Lego allows these events to be filmed and seems to be listening to the fans, at the end of the day they have many other things they have to pay attention to like playability, structure and what kind of sets sell well etc

I don’t understand why they’re cutting costs with the waist capes, apart from snow troopers, they’re only really on commanders and special mini figs like airborne, there’s not gonna many of them.
I still think the solution to the Gunship is it should’ve been the muun 10 version from the 2003 clone wars option. It would’ve been something new, it has whole sliding double doors, its design is 20 years old, and has enough fans of the design. It checks so many boxes it makes more sense than what they did choose.
But the Coruscant Guard gunship is also something new and something that I've seen multiple fans request (although not as much as the Muunilinst 10 gunship) over the years.
You know, I like Jedi Starfighters(the Delta's not the Eta's) so I'm happy to hear there are more Jedi Starfighters coming down the road.
We need a $40-50 Jango Fett Slave 1, like the book of boba Fett Slave 1 that came out somewhat recently.
It should be a better version of the boba fett one, it was too small it should be the same side as the 40th anniversary slave 1 just re colored.
Eh, I think it'd definitely be better if it was a bit larger and could fit Boba and Jango.

They definitely should’ve made a new mold for the 6x6 tile. Also it doesn’t explain the other stickers on the Venator, those 100% should’ve been prints since they don’t interfere with the mold.
Well, once they decided the four 6x6 would be a sticker, the other two pieces likely followed it for simplicity.

We need some more battle packs for every trilogy of Star Wars. Like Endor, phase 1 & 2 clones, especially pilots and gunners!

One thing they said about waistcapes being hard for kids to put on: THE SET BEING REFERRED TO IS AN 18+ SET WITH OVER 5000+ PIECES TO PUT TOGETHER!!! That excuse is ridiculous.
The issue with the Yoda starfighter was it didn't include Darth Bane.
Otherwise it's a fine set when you find it on sale, and it's ok to remake things from 5 years ago.

On the part of the sticker issue… I bought a set of printed (on Lego) pieces for the venator and it looks phenomenal. If someone can do it in their garage then Lego should certainly should have been.

Argh I’ve always wanted the republic gunship but it was retired when I went to toys r us with my mom when I was a kid and I couldn’t get it lol
Then I was “too old” for the clone wars version and the other one too
Now today I went to go buy the UCS version finally and it’s been retired!!!

@@skinnyj123 Smaller/less inside space, worse figs, less play features. Only thing it has going for it is the gunship hasn't been out in play form for 10 yrs and the different color
@@F-16FightingFalcon worse figures isn't a valid criticism as figures are subjective (except fox) but for play features it doesn't really have less it just lacks a side build, the trooper space is also smaller yeah but it's more size accurate and the model if more sturdy because of it

I don't like the coruscant guard gunship. Would like a Episode 2 gunship with more 2013 era phase 1 minifigs.
How out of touch are you to sarcasticly say starfighters are 'just what we all wanted' and then proceed to say you want a UCS Anakins starfighter when what WE all really want is more starfighters as they are cheap, great for display or play and offer great minifigure selections. Most of us (me included) do not even own a single UCS setans obviously you're fine to have your opinion but its kind of annoying seeing you say it like its the majority opinion when you have an actual influence. Its not the same as if I do it, your voice has actual weight behind it so just for the record, all of us DO want more cheap starfighters and although a UCS phase 2 starfighter would be sick if thats all we get then like 70-80% of us will be pretty pissed. Not tryna be hostile ✌️

They seem like such good designers, some things are questionable, but they seem cool. I feel like Yens saying he had no hand in designing these sets means that he is passing on the torch to these new and upcoming designers like Jackson as Yens has been with LSW since the beginning. I hope to see more of the younger designers’ fresh ideas and hear more from them.

The real question to ask these designers is please point to who the boss is in the room that kills appropriate design choices like having the waist cape?
Wouldn't you like to know who is in charge of a design decision that may cost Lego an extra nickel which is miniscule in the grand scheme of things.
Might cost them an extra nickel but they'll happily charge us $600 for the set they didn't spend that extra nickel on..!

I appreciate getting a lot of these questions answered even though some of the reasoning is ridiculous. Also some more minifig based questions would be nice like why is Fox and Vaughn's printing inaccurate? Why does Padme reuse a common head instead of a more unique on like we got in 2013? Why does the Gunship have only five figures for a $140 set? Also the helmet holes probably need to be addressed although they don't bother me as much as it does others.
i was surprised the printing for Fox/Vaughn wasn't brought up too. in regards to the helmet holes; they answered that in detail last year.

I totally agree with David on all his LEGO criticisms. I absolutely love David's passion for wanting a waste cape for Rex and a printed piece for the UCS Venator, as well as his desire for double doors on the Gunship. Keep on fighting for us AFOL's David!
I think they did a great job explaining the actual sets reasoning and choices. While the minifigure stuff itself to me is all BS.
Consistency is the reason why Rex doesn’t have a waistcape, BULL C he got arm printing wtf.

They can't print on a 6x6 tile with a mold "nipple" yet they can print on the 8x16 display plaque that also has the same mold "nipple"?!?!
Unless they are actually printing on the dimple, its not an issue.
I don’t have the Venator yet but the X-Wing’s printing is all around it.
I can't believe people will refer to valid criticism as toxicity in the community. Its still rather expensive plastic that makes them plenty of money. Sure there are other things to consider and I can at least appreciate getting the argumentation behind these choices. But, any paying consumer should feel free to voice any criticism of the products they're purchasing (or not). An as long as that is respectfully voiced displeasure, I just don't see how that can equated to toxicity.
Anything that isn’t just complete and utter positivity is labeled as toxic. Society is effed right now.

I do wonder if designer panels for other themes are this negative?
Seems like all of the questions are along the lines of "why did you do X?" or "why did you make compromises with Y?" and answers that sound like "blah blah blah excuses" and "blah blah just because idk". I haven't seen this in other themes but maybe I'm just not looking.
The recent Ornithopter reveal was incredible, the Rivendell designer panel showed the attention to detail and care while fans got the entire fellowship and easter eggs in the set, Avengers tower has 30 figs. Am I crazy or is it just my SW bias?
I'd say the vitriol likely comes in large part from the prices of Star Wars sets. Yes, licensing tax etc, but the price of sets is going up and up so should account for that - and while I don't think the physical bricks or design quality is necessarily dropping, the more deeply cut corners are obvious. A $600 set with two figures? The AT-TE and Republic Gunship both come with five figures for around a quarter of the price. It's insulting at that point (edit: as are things like the pathetic gift with purchase, oh yeah thanks a lot, you're so grateful I paid you more than a month's rent that you've giving me a piece of metal and two pieces of fabric).
It's because the other themes feel like designers are going out of their way to put in extra details or features for fans to enjoy. With LSW, it feels like corners keep getting cut because they know it'll make a lot of money anyways. It's sad, but looking back on the theme things used to be great because we used to get a ton of stuff at the time, but costs keep increasing but quality and quantity have been random.

"The red gunship looks cool and it's different." Literally the perfect reason for any lego set. Why question that logic. I can care less about army building when cool things like a red gunship exist. The fans really overthink it sometimes.

Citing playability issues and consistency as reasons for omitting cloth pieces is very off-putting and not only in regard to UCS sets.
Instead of not including elements that have a miniscule impact on production cost and obviously have a much higher impact on the perceived quality and feel of the product - simply add cloth pieces to sets with the adequate clone troopers and leave it to the customers/fans to decide if they want to use them or not.
Something similar is already done with the clone helmet visor and rangefinder attachments.
Children that can and want to - will use the cloth waste capes and adults will be happier with both the message LEGO is sending and all of their purchases, ranging from battle packs and play sets all the way to adult and very expensive Ultimate Collector Series sets.
In addition:
LEGO Dreamzzz 71469 Nightmare Shark Ship - very much a play set, includes figure drm030 with a cloth waste cape that without a doubt needs to be folded, pulled up or otherwise manipulated for the minifigure to be seated.
Seems like simply adding the cloth pieces is an easy solution that would increase quality at minimal expense.
I want a beautiful arc 170 with no Jedi in it. And a Munificent
All they have to do for waist capes is just have a page explaining to kids to remove the capes to get the characters to sit. It's not that hard, and it feels like an excuse to cut costs and get more profit. The better and more accurate the figure, the more desire it is for fans of all ages.
For more Jedi Starfighters, I hope that they vary in design and color. Give us ships for characters that aren't as well known, or remake old ships we did get in the past but updated to modern pieces like the green or blue fighter that Anakin and Obi-Wan had later in RotS.
My hope for LSW is that during these off-season waves where they don't tie-in to a film or show, we get a variety of sets from all moments of Star Wars. Let's say one wave we get a set from Rebels with the TIE Defender, for sequels we could have a Resistance A-wing, for prequels we could have a Gungan vs. Droids pack. It'd be risky because if nothing connects then it'd be hard for fans to want to pick up multiple sets for the wave, but it ensures that fans of all eras get something for them to enjoy. I don't imagine we will ever get something for Rogue One or Solo in a very long time, which is a shame because there were things that never got covered in Lego.

@Samfan4Films777 It's not a lie. If a figure can only sit down by damaging part of it, then it can't properly sit down. I personally really like the fabric kamas, and I always add custom ones to all of my clones, BUT I understand why Lego doesn't make them anymore since they fray, crease, and yellow really badly. I don't understand why people keep complaining about it, though, when it's so easy to either buy or make a custom one (which is what we did for years before Lego actually started producing fabric kamas in 2013, btw).

The excuse that they scaled down the Gunship for play reasons seems like an ass-pull, a child is going to have a harder time putting their hands inside of the Gunship if it's smaller.
Hate to say it but not being able to print the 6x6 tile due to the mould mark is bs. 10278 Modular Police Station has two printed 6x6 tiles and these turned out perfect.
just checked it and actually if you pay attention to the prints they have white voids right where the mold marks are

Do Lego Clone Wars fans have tunnel vision? Because the Clone Wars is not the only Star Wars saga that exists. There have been like 26 Lego Republic Gunships and all I ever hear is, "When are we getting another Republic Gunship?" How about you enjoy the ones you own already? There's the Old Republic/Sith Empire, New Republic/Remnant, and New Empire from Star Wars Legacy that we've never even received sets from and it's just more clone wars more clone wars more clone wars.
There have been 4 gunships that are worth £350+ now each and the most recent one is almost 10 years old. Obviously people wanted a new one that they could actually afford and some new fans weren't even born for the last one. Clone wars is the most popular star wars media among fans right now and probably will remain that way until dave filoni stops putting ahsoka in everything and the old Republic is very niche so of course they won't make as many sets ALSO there have been multiple new republic/remnant sets in the last few years due to the mandalorian and such.
@@skinnyj123 Typical defensive response. Clone Wars fans are the most catered to Star Wars fans and they are never happy no matter what. I don't care about anything related to Disney, because the only thing printed more than Clone Wars is canon stuff that nobody wants. At least you get yearly sets related to your favorite era, at least you get stuff you actually want. Maybe when you stop getting catered to, then you'll understand what the rest of us "niche" people really feel like.
