Aang definitely made the right decision with Ozai. This man has zero combative ability without firebending, taking that fire away from him deprives the old regime loyalists of their all-powerful leader while also preventing said loyalists from having a martyr for their cause by not killing him. It's the best balance between idealism and pragmatism.
I've seen one comment state how disappointing he was, which I agree was HIGHLY anticlimatic, but we have to remember a few core things... 1. This is a Nickelodeon show intended for more younger audiences. It gets away with things like blood once every season, but that's about it-- its obvious that they couldn't show a man being killed by a demi-god. Anyone who wants to deny this reason for Aang's decision is just ignorant. 2. The fight lasted for a couple episodes, which is good for it in retrospect, but it felt prolonged, like it was purposefully made that way to save extra effort. There is also the liberation of Ba Sing Se and Zuko / Katara's fight with Azula also going on, but since there were 4 episodes, it would've been better to dedicate each episode to each event. This makes room for more to show for each event; we could've seen if the White Lotus had made it to Kuei while he was in hiding, or a nice battle between Iroh and the Commanding Officer in charge of the forces holding the city for example. 3. Ozai is a little man in a big world, no shit he's going to do something extremely stupid (burning down your colonies kind of screws over your people back home who will be without food). He really did this as a means to show how superior he is, when in reality he's just as basic as any master bender there is in the world. 4. He doesn't have enough build-up. When I say this, I mean he doesn't have enough screen time for him to be considered bad enough as he was. Since Book 1, he's been painted as a big bad boss that everyone should fear, when in reality my third point stands. This is an example of how NOT to execute a villain, which Ozai isn't, he's just one of several antagonists throughout the series, he just happens to be the last one for Aang. That's about it. I'm not arguing about the ends of Aangs decision, but I would've loved to have seen an alternate universe where Bryan, Aaron and Danny weren't really given any restriction on what they could've created. Knowing them, they probably still would've made another masterpiece that includes deep messages and portrayals on war, suicide, betrayal, genocide, that our alternate selves would literally show us is better than this version of ATLA. Regardless, ATLA is still a beautiful thing that happened to the world, and it was created at a very good time around the mid-2000's, where some Millenials were watching and some of us Zoomers (03 kid here) were literally growing up with it, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Aang definitely made the right decision with Ozai. This man has zero combative ability without firebending, taking that fire away from him deprives the old regime loyalists of their all-powerful leader while also preventing said loyalists from having a martyr for their cause by not killing him. It's the best balance between idealism and pragmatism.

I've seen one comment state how disappointing he was, which I agree was HIGHLY anticlimatic, but we have to remember a few core things...
1. This is a Nickelodeon show intended for more younger audiences. It gets away with things like blood once every season, but that's about it-- its obvious that they couldn't show a man being killed by a demi-god. Anyone who wants to deny this reason for Aang's decision is just ignorant.
2. The fight lasted for a couple episodes, which is good for it in retrospect, but it felt prolonged, like it was purposefully made that way to save extra effort. There is also the liberation of Ba Sing Se and Zuko / Katara's fight with Azula also going on, but since there were 4 episodes, it would've been better to dedicate each episode to each event. This makes room for more to show for each event; we could've seen if the White Lotus had made it to Kuei while he was in hiding, or a nice battle between Iroh and the Commanding Officer in charge of the forces holding the city for example.
3. Ozai is a little man in a big world, no shit he's going to do something extremely stupid (burning down your colonies kind of screws over your people back home who will be without food). He really did this as a means to show how superior he is, when in reality he's just as basic as any master bender there is in the world.
4. He doesn't have enough build-up. When I say this, I mean he doesn't have enough screen time for him to be considered bad enough as he was. Since Book 1, he's been painted as a big bad boss that everyone should fear, when in reality my third point stands. This is an example of how NOT to execute a villain, which Ozai isn't, he's just one of several antagonists throughout the series, he just happens to be the last one for Aang.
That's about it. I'm not arguing about the ends of Aangs decision, but I would've loved to have seen an alternate universe where Bryan, Aaron and Danny weren't really given any restriction on what they could've created. Knowing them, they probably still would've made another masterpiece that includes deep messages and portrayals on war, suicide, betrayal, genocide, that our alternate selves would literally show us is better than this version of ATLA.
Regardless, ATLA is still a beautiful thing that happened to the world, and it was created at a very good time around the mid-2000's, where some Millenials were watching and some of us Zoomers (03 kid here) were literally growing up with it, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Idk I feel like everything was done perfectly. Even the fact that Aang didn’t kill Ozai, yes it was a restriction from Nickelodeon, but the way they tied it into the story and Aang’s personality I feel fits perfectly. Idk I just think this show is a masterpiece and everything was executed perfectly so I’m probably a little biased but..
