With the Kevin Durant era on the Phoenix Suns officially beginning over the course of the last week or so, there were many different takes and expectations on what we would see from an NBA team loaded with star power in KD, along with Devin Booker, Chris Paul, & Deandre Ayton. And while the results this week have been filed with positives for Phoenix Suns fans, I don’t think many people expected to see some of the strategies this team has used under Monty Williams.
In all of the Phoenix Suns games so far With KD & Book side by side, the Suns offense has developed a new identity they were not able to use all year prior. Because with their star power and ball handling being an option now at all times, it allows for the remainder of this rotation in guys like Josh Okogie, Cameron Payne, Torrey Craig, Landry Shamet, Damion Lee, Ish Wainright, & even new guys like TJ Warren & Terrence Ross to see efficient opportunities that only Kevin Durant can open up for almost any team.
But then even when considering the Suns defense, while their departures in the blockbuster trade do not help in this regard, the like of Craig, Okogie, etc. are more than capable of keeping this team atop the league as one of the best defensively under HC Monty Williams. But will this new look Phoenix Suns team have enough to make their way to the 2023 NBA Finals? Well, we will see in due time.

Before I even watch the video I just want to say that KD is one of the most amazing players I've watched. He can truly fit into any system. He plays hard on both ends of the floor. He's good with or without the ball. Obviously his scoring prowess is second to none right now, probably all time. He's a great passer. But the thing I like about him the most is that he's really not selfish. He's highly respected, and that's why he gets the ball so much. There isn't a single thing I would ask KD to do more of.

Don't forget about CP3. Even though he is old as hell, he's still a really solid point guard and gives the sun a nice veteran presence. I hope he's able to win a chip with this suns team before he retires

I think that both KD and Books' offenses are so good that people don't realize that they actually play very solid defense.
I think the defense gets even better because Monti does not play around on that end of the court. Just listen to all the interviews, Monti and the players all emphasize defense. It is usually that reporters ask about their offense more than their defense.
Lastly, this is not the only season that will have Book and KD in the line up. It will be here for at least a couple more years, and hopefully Monti and Ayton can truly amend their troubles and see Ayton become an even bigger threat out there. Yikes! Really hoping for the best.

@@frederickdelius1106 And we definitely hit the lotto with the big man. If you take a good glance around the league there are very few big men that are on the skill level as Ayton. I give to his agent for helping him get his money. Plus, he is only 24 (or 23). I heard in a podcast that he played yesterday so he wouldn't let down KD. Sure he needs help for motivation but that is the same for many players out there.
idk, one of the things about their defense right now is that they can't hide anyone in the defense, no one is at that level of defensive prowess on that roster. Now this would normally be a problem. However, this is only the case if an offence can somehow outscore Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton. The only team I can see even having a shot at doing that is either the Celtics or the Warriors, potentially the Bucks and even at even less of a chance the Mavericks since they're basically just a baby construction of the Suns.
@@madeinabysspreacher5874 Those are good points. We also have to acknowledge that this is only three games total with this new roster. But, to add to this, during the entire season they were missing players due to injury. Shamet isn't even on the court yet. And no matter what people say about him he is a good on ball defender, that is why Monti keeps playing him even though he is inconsistent on the offensive end. Speaking of Monti, I think he is getting better and better at coaching, slowly but surely. He is incorporating new sets and he is putting trust in more guys handling the rock. There are growing pains that come with that, but I think it will help the team at the end because teams are going to smother Book and KD.
I would love to say "Suns winning the chip" but this is still a small sample size. We need more data, and boy are we going to that. I am so excited!

If they “semi tank” or go 60/40 or just have enough wins to accomplish several things it would be ideal. They get rest, they squeak into the playoffs, and they have the element of surprise on what a full ready to go roster will provide. I say rest everyone all the time. Don’t let all of them play together at all until playoffs. We already know they play great together. Now we save it to make teams have to make too many adjustments in real time during the playoffs. That’s what I would do. Maybe even do off court bonding like concerts and other sports events and some adventure/ fear bonding activity like like skydiving. Then playoffs, bring it back on the court, destroy, take pics with trophy, get bag.

Their offensive efficiency is over the top, pick and roll, mid range, three-pointers, off ball spot up shooting, ISO ball, low post… great shooters, and Kevin Durant is clutch
They have too many weapons offensively that I don’t even see the best defenses being able to stop them.
The only problem is, they aren’t stopping any of the other great offenses from scoring either.
They should get better on the fence as they get more games under their belt together. They have only had three games with Kevin Durant.
I feel like they can make it as far as the conference finals or even the finals. The west is a very tough conference to play in so we'll have to see.

Being honest, as good as they look...Bookand KD can't do it themselves. Ayton and CP (mainly Ayton) are gonna have to step up. In all reality, Ayton is really the X factor in them winning a championship. He doesn't have to dominate, but he has to be reliable when his number is called.

So far, there has been no surprise with the starting four (with KD). The key to winning a chip will be in how well the bench plays, which has been (surprisingly) more than decent thus far. The question is: do the Suns have enough depth to hang with the Bucks, Celtics, or 76ers come playoff time, which is a completely different level of basketball? Hopefully the Suns will be at full strength (healthy) come playoff time. The Suns, mostly likely, will win the WCF.

Defense? I just don't see it. CP3 is terrible on D and bench is average now. Damion Lee didn't play any minutes in playoffs for Warriors and he is one of Sunds top bench players now. Defense wins championships.

They might not win it all this year due to insignificant time to play with each other, but if everybody stays healthy and no one drops off significantly, they should be able to accomplish the ultimate goal either this year or the next.

They're still lacking at bench players, you can't win 7 games in the playoffs without a deep bench.
The Game slows down in the playoffs and the bench is not BAD! You can LITERALLY keep KD or Booker on the floor with CP3 or Payne with deep 3 threats in the corner from JO, D Lee, Craig, Wainwright, and Shamett. And in tight situations KD and Booker can stay on the floor for 35min plus.
