  • In this video, I install some Kenwood 2 way speakers on the golf. These paired up with the aftermarket headunit are going to sound great. I want to try to convince my brother to get some subs for the car too to complete the audio system.

    •The polarity of the speakers is important to get correct. After all they are + and - for a reason.
    •Don't drill the door with the window behind it!
    •That is a bad way of joining wiring. Always solder and heatshrink the connection, or use a mechanical joint at worst.
    •There is no need to put the speaker cover on in that application as the door card already has a speaker cover.
    Please don't teach people to do things the wrong way.

      mike field man i see alot of wrong in this video. Now i will admit that i don't always use connectors or the crimp method. But when i do wire the "shitty" way i wire them long ways and apply a tight layer of electric tape on it. I usually like to use male/female connectors or heat shrink

      You should always solder and heatshrink the wires. And polarity does matter. Also drilling through thin metal with glass behind it isn't smart.

    Great video, but polarity is important. An easy way to tell if the wiring is correct is use a AA BATTERY. Simply touch one lead to the positive and one lead to the negative, notice the speaker when it "thumps", if the speaker sucks inwards it's wired incorrectly. If it pushes outwards then it's wired correctly. If you listen carefully, you will be able to tell which way it's "thumping". Just my two cents.

      Danny Deanda thanks for the tip, I remember knowing this trick before but forgot which direction the speaker should go to know if it was right or not. Out good, in bad, got it!!

Considering Everthing this video teachers if technically incorrect and will damage your car not to mention downgrade the sound quality immensely, when people are doing research to IMPROVE the sound.. not the sound in the video but there own car and all the get is bad advice.. here's a better example.. say your lost while driving your car and you pull over to these two lovely well spoken men that treat you very nicely, are clear to understand, and spoke or worked well together, if they gave you the wrong directions therefore leading you 100kms away from where you asked directions too , would you say "Well not to worried, it's only 3 4 or 5 hours of lost time but at least they spoke clearly??"
      Me personally would of preferred unclear directions so I would if stoped again and ask another inteligent person the way to go to get to my destination.. nut I'm only 12 years old, what the hell would I know besides how to pee my pants, pick my noise and pick on my little sister and steal he dinner.. GOD bless you all for you honest God for nothing arseholes... whoops I mean opinions.... got them confused, same thing really, assholes and opinions, everyone's got one.. can't say that's BullS#!t..

    The polarity of speakers is important! If you connect second speaker in opposite way to the first one audio waves will cancel each other out, and you will hear nothing or less powerful sound!
    And why you are not soderin things together,? That is very stupid! One bad bump on rod and your whole installation can break a part or short out, and star fire.

    • @bubblemanpie
      @bubblemanpie 8 лет назад +10

      Exactly what I was thinking... Also no point in having two speaker grills. Plus two of those wires are to power the tweeters. They get passed through the speakers, or so I've read on VW forums.

      clearly you have no idea how "audio waves" work. This is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Also, the "whole installation" will not break a part nor will it start a fire, fuses in the car will protect against any of this and they are already installed in series before the connection to the stereo. Solder job is important though!

    • @adrianjakovac897
      @adrianjakovac897 2 года назад

      Did you ever think to yourself "why are there two + and two - wires..?" If so diid you conclude that the factory was using a twin voice coil speaker..? Because if you did you would need some serious help. It ant no ferrari or high end stereo and if it were high end running dual voice coils then you would touch any of it. So next question is "why are there 2 sets of + and - ??? Did you check the factory speaker for any capacitor and resistor? Clearly NOT or else you would of not done it your way. From factory it is running splits (most likely better than the speakers you replaced it with, I'm sure after the video was over you said to each other that it sounded before you touched it) when running splits you use either capacitor and resistor on the speaker differ itself or a crossover extremely with more expensive speakers. Now I'm not 100% sure on your car because I'm only 12 but turning 13 in 2 months an 4 days ;) if I had to guess I made the same mistake when I was just a wee little fella aged 6, one pair is the feed to the woofer from headunit or amp and the other pair is the output to the tweeters AFTER the signal has run through the resistor mounted on the original woofer to remove any low freq signal from it otherwise like you would of found out by now you have popped the tweeter because your running bass to the little guy.. the factory don't place individual terminal if it's all just connected to one. Think about it!!! Okay it's 6:30pm and mummy is letting me know to go to bed bed, so I'm off to brush my teeth and sleepy sleep, hope you don't screw up your next video and show potentially thousands of people how to waste there time and money to downgrade there stereo and make stuff blow up.. i admit I was hoping you slipped with the drill and shattered the window, my 3 year old sister did that a few months ago. She's not the smartest but by the time she's your age GOD damm, your going to make her look like a freaken genius.. nighty night. Stay in school, you need it.. :)

    I agree with mike field. If the polarity between left and the right speakers are reversed then the sound is out of phase (180 degrees) and will give a weird spacious sound. Also I would solder the joint instead of simply twisting them together, twisting will not be reliable over a long period, due to vibration corrosion etc and will have repeat this process again later.

    In another life, when I was in high school, I did mess around a fair amount with car audio. Even then, and since going to school, I do know that polarity does matter. If you are unsure of the polarity, I'm sure it can be found online. Or possibly even a Haynes manual, or a Chilton manual will let you know which wire is positive and which wire is negative. I am guessing that there are four wires, because it is a component system, and there are two wires that run up to a tweeter possibly.

    1. Polarity does matter because you will cancel out the waves if connected wrong and get bad sound.
    2. Component setup would of been better.
    3. Taping is fine, but soldering would make a secure connection.

    It absolutely matters which wire are you plug into where on the speakers polarity is very important and it wasn't until recently when I redid the wiring to my car after rough installing my system last year that I realized just how much it matters. My audio system doesn't even sound like the same head unit or speakers it's like a whole other audio system now and that's because I had several speakers that were out of phase due to being ignorant of speaker polarity. Also drilling out the rivets with the window directly behind the speaker sounds like an accident that is inevitably waiting to happen maybe roll the window up first and then roll it back down once the speaker is out

    To do good connections you need to solder the wires and use shrink tube

    Hello, i have installed an aftermarket pioneer stereo (deh- s320bt) in my car which says "output power: 50 (*4) watts" . Until how many watts RMS speakers can i buy? Cause i dont know if this "50" is watt RMS. For example if i place 80 Watt RMS speakers in my car, will the stereo be burnt?
    I have found some speakers (Jbl stage2 604c) which are 45 watt RMS and 270 watt max power . Will they fit my car?

      I’m pretty sure the 50w x 4 is the max, not the rms wattage. As long as you have a speaker above the rating you will be fine. It’s just giving the speaker less power then it can handle.

    I like your videos you had shown me things that coming in handy but I would like to help you out as an install Institute tech it is called in phase and out of phase. in phase is when you hook the speaker negative to negative, out of phase is when you hook up negative to positive make the speaker work backwards you still get sound but the speaker works opposite polarity instead of pushing it's pulling

    Hi one question... Does the bracket "improve" the speaker sound? I mean the bass sound quality. I have same Kenwood 6.5 speakers but installed withouth brackets and I feel a poor bass quality sound. I hope your answer could help me. Thanks!

      The spacer improves air space, making the door deeper and louder improving bass.

    Is this truly safe to only twist the wires? Will it last just as long?
