I have never seen a dollar tree like your dollar tree, It didn't even look like the dollar tree with the way the tapes and paint brushes were, my dollar tree is a hot mess with not a great selection at all. Thank you for sharing such great tips and I love watching your videos ❤️

Mine looks like it exploded and no-one has put it back together. The poor folks working there! I went back into the storage room with one thinking I might find something I bought online they couldn’t find and was horrified to see a 8-ft mountain of thousands of boxes of unopened inventory. I get stressed out just driving by. That scene is haunting.

Cass, I can relate to your struggles! I am a 58-year-old mother of 11 and grandmother of 17, and I once was hooked on sweets. I didn’t care about the food I ate, I just ate it to get to dessert, and candy all day every day. I gave it up thirteen-years-ago, and cannot believe the difference in my life. I first went to all-natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup but really saw no difference in my weight. Two years ago I went clean Keto and have dessert made with erithritol or stevia daily. I am satisfied like never before. For the first time in my life I don’t think about my weight, and the scale hovers at 110, when my normal weight was 130 in the past and 160+ when pregnant. I am more fit than I was in my twenties and able to keep up with this big, growing family. You can have your cake, made with the right sweeteners, and eat it too!😂

Back when the pandemic started I got the bright idea to put all of the pictures that were in old albums into picture books. I did do a few but they were all of the easy ones. So as soon as you presented the 10 week challenge I knew what my goal was going to be. I committed to 15 minutes a day of working on sorting through the pictures and just putting them in new photo albums. I am happy to report that I have gone through five large folders of pictures.! You gave me the motivation I needed to do what I had procrastinated doing for almost three years. I still have three large folders to do but I need to purchase more albums... which I hope to be able to do in a week or so. Thank you so much!

I get my daughters the stretched canvas in the art section. Good quality for a fraction of the price. Here's a snack food tip: Read the ingredients and then research them. Corn syrup has trace amounts of mercury from the processing, transfats do disgusting things in your body, etc. I used to be a Little Debbie addict and now they just gross me out and Oreos are a hard pass. It is a lot easier to pass on the treats when they no longer seem like a treat. I was an absolute sugar addict and now when I see most sweets I tend to make a "yuck" face, at least in my head. I also did a little pantry make-over. We no longer have a general treats section. Everyone has their own bin for snacks/treats and that is where we go for desserts, etc. It would be wrong of me to take someone else's goodies so my only time to be tempted is when I am at the store doing the once a week shopping. That is a lot easier than being tempted all day, every day. (I work from home most days and I can see the pantry closet from my desk chair so the temptation is real!) It also makes it so easy to keep track of snacking for everyone because when we had community treats that disappeared like the wind, everyone said that it was Not Me that ate it. (You would think I would be able to find this Not Me living in our home since he must be as big as the house, but I have never seen him.) Keep up the good fight, or better yet, stop fighting and figure out how to make it easy as pie to do what you want to do in the first place. You do so many amazing things, I'm sure you'll do this too.

With weight loss, if your constantly snacking (and on sweets) you are probably always elevating you insulin. When Insulin is elevated the body will not lose weight. You are so right about shopping Dollar Tree can encourage one to bring home "junk" that you won't use, or don't need. At that price it's easy to justify it in your brain. For years, even before DT came to our area, I started a habit of shopping clearance in whatever store I went into, adding up the cost in my head as I went. When I'd roamed the whole store, I'd take one more look at what I'd gathered. Surprisingly, most if not all, didn't seem as "gotta have" as it did when I first saw it. So, I'd walk back around the store to put back what I didn't need. I considered this not only polite, but exercise. I do the same at DT now. While I have a list, you never really know what you are going to find, it's a good habit to get into to keep from over buying.
As for the weight loss. I didn't really set a goal because I don't like goals. However, my sweet precious Joey Cat became very ill. In caring for him and then six days before he passed snuggled in my arms, it turned to hospice care where I helped him eat and administered pain medication. I didn't have time to snack. Barely had time to eat. I lost 8 pounds. Mourning his loss, has kept me on track, as I keep busy drawing and purging more. Snacks are no longer something I crave. Not a way I'd recommend of course. I wouldn't give up a minute of caring for that sweet guy for all the chocolate in the world. He was a mama's boy, always near me.

@@lindahudson6308 definitely! If you're used to regular sugar it may be hard to switch, but my taste buds have adjusted and I really like using erythritol/monk fruit sweetener if I'm making my own food. For store bought stuff I like keeping sugar free jello and chocolate keto bombs. Berries are a nice treat and have a lot less sugar than other fruit (fresh or frozen) Strawberries are one of the better options, paired with sugar free whipped cream(or homemade is easy to whip up) Natural peanut butter is nice to have with sugar free jam. I'll also make candied nuts with erythritol that are great if you sprinkle a little sea salt on for a sweet/salty filling treat 🙂 Chia seed chocolate pudding is an easy sweet snack or breakfast option. Smoothies are awesome too. I've lost almost 50lbs in about 7 months. Some people lose a lot more but I went the lazy keto way 😄 slow and steady works for me 😊

I’ve been doing EXCELLENT with my 10 week house habits challenge, but with the diet/exercise part I keep falling off the horse. What helps me get right back on NO MATTER WHAT, is your 10 rules to live by. I actually wrote out some of my favorites to remind myself of on a daily basis and lay them on my bed first thing in the morning after making my bed. And that MOST important one for me is, EVERY SECOND IS A FRESH START! I place that one at the top. I used to wait til the next day (to start over/fresh), but hearing that ‘rule’ has helped me forgive myself IMMEDIATELY. I usually apply that in other areas of my life, but never thought of doing it with my fitness/nutrition. It really helps my mindset. I have to REMEMBER that rule IMMEDIATELY, then re-focus my intentions. It has really helped me even though I’m still struggling with it. I KNOW I won’t give up because that means giving up on my SELF! And I like and care about my SELF too much to do that!!
*I capitalize SELF to acknowledge my spirit/soul; the person inside ❤😊
    THANK YOU, CAS!! 💖

I mostly buy cleaning products and tools, and soap at the Dollar Tree, but will occasionally treat myself with a decor item that is too cute to pass up. I had success with the LA Awesome stain remover, and, it, along with The Works Toilet Bowl cleaner, is still less expensive than Walmart and the grocery store. I also like Chase Orange Furniture, which, along with the LA Awesome products, are made in the U.S. Sometimes you can find great deals, like a pair of really good manicure scissors (made in Germany) or a can of tomato sauce that sells for over twice as much in the grocery store.
Dollar tree videos give me decorating ideas. Yours has inspired me to set up a gallery wall with the picture frames in my basement. I also loved the way you decorated your mirror.
Not having sucess with my diet, but might take the pressure off by trying to lose at least 5 lbs. I have, however, had tremendous decluttering success. Scary pantry closet is no longer scary after I filled a BIG BLACK trash bag with donations that I dropped off this morning. I also have two boxes of books I hope to donate this week and am also filling up the recycling bin with my paper clutter. I might not lose as much weight as I want but my house us definitely losing a great deal of clutter ☺️

Many everyday kitchen items at DT are fabulous. Another thing I love is their cake carriers. I enjoy baking Bundt cakes and give them with a DT cake carrier and $.50 lightweight seasonal color plates at Walmart that fit like they were made for each other. It presents nicely with a bit of color. I also use 4 small binder clips, also available at DT, to really secure the lid and base. I’m not sure I trust the handle built into the lid, but as a way to present and preserve the cake you can’t beat it. The best part is when I give the cake I tell them that they are free to do whatever they like to do with the carrier and I literally buy them at DT so we don’t have to worry about getting anything back to each other. The red silicone basting brush is my absolute favorite to glaze the cakes and can go in the dishwasher. I just picked up an 8” round glass cutting board with silicone feet to use in my RV.
I’d say a thorough shopping trip there will shock people who last went there 5+ years ago. They’ve definitely upped their game.

My goals were to walk for at least 30 minutes every day and journal daily (with a gratitude focus). Other than a couple days in bed with the flu I’ve done it. It’s your video!! I rewatch it when I need a boost! Thanks!

I took to heart your thing that I can do anything for 10 weeks. I started eating inside an 8 hour window and I track the items on an app called cronometer. It's amazing even at the free level..paid is next level.
It's improved my nutrition a whole lot because I can see what I'm getting too much and too little of.
But the 8 hour window (which does stretch to 10 hours sometimes) has been amazing. And I've lost 5 lbs.
I can do anything for 10 weeks.

I think you look great & I’m surprised you want to loose 10 pounds. My recommendation is to try to walk everyday for 30 minutes to an hour. Anytime I added a daily workout to my fitness plan it helped me balance any over snacking.
My favorite things to buy at the D.T. are drawer organizers. I like the white ones that come in packs of 2 & 3. These sizes work wonderfully in organizing desk drawers, junk drawers & the kitchen. I use them everywhere.

I've been pretty consistent on a couple of my 10 week goals. Walking a minimum 20 minutes a day....check (I've only missed a few days these past 10 weeks). Drinking at least 96 ounces of water a day...check (again, only missed a few days). I have a couple of other goals which shall remain nameless because they were big fat failures, but I'm happy that I've pretty much stuck to 2 of the goals! And, those 2 goals are important ones health wise so that's a win! Thanks, Cas!!

I'm with you-trying to move the scale needle in the right direction-any loss is a good loss. I am down about 20 lbs since the beginning of the Summer. Would I like it to go faster? Of course!! But slow and steady often wins the race- and because it's such a real struggle, maybe I'll keep it off this time.

    Hi Cas,
I also love the dollar store candy and often buy it to take to work for those stressful moments. However, when it comes to weight loss, what I find that works for me is pairing my workout with other things that I need to do. For example, I wake up work out, then shower before anything else. If I don't work out before showering, it means I have missed that day. Also, I associate working out with food. If I eat every day, I need to get rid of the waste created yesterday before fueling for the day.

Just think, if you hadn’t lost a pound the first week, you’d be 3 pounds heavier instead of 2! Don’t give up!!! I know you’re probably fed up of people giving weight loss tips, but my most successful strategy is counting calories and treat it like budgeting money. So when I think I really want this chocolate I think about how much of the budget it will use up. Knowing that it will use a big chunk of my allowance for the day, but I’ll still be hungry afterwards has helped me make better decisions. Also don’t set your “budget” too low because that always backfires!

  • @beahappy1today

I can relate to you with the weight issue. My therapist recommended a book about “intuitive eating”. It’s not necessarily for weight loss, but helps people avoid restrictive eating and then overeating things like treats. I stopped gaining weight, and improved my mindset. So that’s a step in the right direction.
Now, it’s about making small but steady changes towards a healthier lifestyle. I’ve heard focusing on making positive lifestyle changes is psychologically healthier for a lot of people than hyper focusing on weight.
I sometimes forget the power of tiny incremental changes. Those are the changes that have really stuck, and led to greater things.
You’ve got this Cas! I love hearing about your experience in that category.
Also, excited for the giveaways. I would loyally follow you without them. BUT, also think they are super fun and wouldn’t say no to participating. Haha! You have my support either way.
Wishing you well. Thank you for the skills and information you give us, and the relatable content and humor. You’re awesome!

My goal was to declutter and organize the store room and my closet by mid Dec before my 2 college guys move back in with all their gear. Let's just say I am making progress and a huge mess! :) The store room has seasonal clothes and outgrown clothes, games, books, decor, tools,.... and our closet has few clothes, tons of project things, tools, old electronics that broke down and we need to retrieve data from it before we let it go, music CD's, ... I have moved out boxes and bags for donation, bags of trash and I am a youth minister who was making 9 lessons a week for a year and shoving everything into bins to organize and use the next year and I had so many bins to go thru and still have quite a few sadly. I have gone thru a lot of the store room and finally have some floor space showing, barely started on my closet. But I have sorted the preK/K lessons into monthly tubs and have 9 of the 12 months done, ready to be labeled and taken to be stored at church. Hope November creeps by cause there is so much left to do!!!! :) But making progress. My main problem is I never got my separated abs from last baby taken care of, and yeah, baby is in college now. Bending over and lifting so much is gonna do me in pain wise.

Your honesty is refreshing. I struggled with weight all my life, also had weight loss surgery and kept off 150 lbs. for 18 years so far. Here is what I do. I know I like easy to grab, bite size finger foods. That was my first revalidation, I started to chop veggies in bite size pieces, to keep at easy to grab,at eye level in the fridge, I looked for recipes of things to make in grab anytime snacks. When you reduce the refined sugar in anything, your body does not create the craving for more and more…. Out of control more! Replacing refined sugar with fruit sugar or Splenda, etc. will make life so much easier. Will power alone is too hard. Chemistry is the answer that worked for me. Good luck! We can conquer this!!!
Ironically both my parents were skinny, I mean my mom weighed 77 lbs. pregnant with my brother! Unfortunately she had two cute little chubby kids, only when you grow up, chubby isn’t so cute anymore! Life isn’t fair!
