Joel needs to release a CD of these riffs he creates. These demos are fantastic, favorite place to listen and find great gear being used to the best of it's abilities.
I have a 73 BB FW that's astonishing. It's totally beat to shit from endless gigs in smokey bars. Has the embossed pup covers, and yes, it IS an early 73.
😢 that beginning interlude is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, my heart is melting... I should just sell everything and get a les paul vos r9 and a couple handwound combo amps with a tape tube stereo delay.
I owned a 1967 Deluxe sunburst and sold it to have enough money to purchase a motorcycle. I always wanted the custom black but could not afford it. What a beautiful guitar.
you make some valid points. my current guitar (that i absolutely love) cost a total of $250 so i absolutely agree with you on that. and $1,100 is way more affordable and reasonable than $11,000. my original point was to just express my disdain that so many of us simply can't enjoy these amazing classic instruments
It is not right to say the original frets are unusable. There is a reason why these guitars are called "The Fretless Wonder," and that is the original low frets. The low frets requires a different playing technique, but once you're there, it's a fantastic guitar to play. You can play as fast as any superstrat (or even faster?) and it's long tenon neck and fantastic wood will sustain forever. It is harder to bend the strings in the same way as you do on a Les Paul Standard, but raising the action a bit will help a lot without affecting the playability. And it is a very versatile guitar. It will give you everything from the sweetest jazztones to the darkest blackmetal sound. If you don't like the low frets, buy a Les Paul Standard instead. Do not ruin a Fretless Wonder by changing the frets. Because this is one of the coolest Les Pauls ever made.
Law and order theme on the end was awesome! Sorry if i've failed to catch if that isn't actually their theme, but an actual classic. But awesome anyway!
The quality of vintage instrument is more a matter of perception rather than reality. The most striking example of this is probably the stradivarius, probably the most prized instrument ever. In recent blind tests, stradivarii have been beaten by modern violins. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen between a 58 les paul and a Norlin model
I had that exact guitar. I bought it from a up the street. I traded it for a 1968'Rickenbacker 360 and I still play it two nights a week. The Les Paul was heavy and I played outside fairs and the like. My Black Face blew the stink off the girls and the mules alike.
My God!... I'm totally in love with this guitar, and also with the result of the sound created between 0:00 to 1:15 and 5:30 to 6:05. That combination blew me away. Congrats Joel! BTW, I wonder if you guys could send me the settings of the amp and Fulltone used in this video? Thanks in advance.
well when you put it like that, it sounds impossible. buy for cheap and use until you have more money to sell and buy better gear. a little at a time, and youll have a collection worth showing off. i started with a shitty solid state marshall, and now im up to an orange rockerverb, deluxe reverb, two sovtek heads and 3 cabs, plus a bass rig. started with a standard strat and now own a g&L asat and a washburn and still have the strat. and i plan on getting a les paul sometime in the near future.
Everything was not "moved to Nashville" until '83. Kalamazoo and Nashville plants worked in conjunction from the mid-70s until the close of the Kalamazoo factory. This is not the reason 68 and 69 Les Pauls are coveted. These two years represent the instruments LEAST changed from the original design specs. The later into '69 you get, the more things changed... 3 piece necks, volutes, pancake bodies, etc. Norlin didn't suck, it was just not the same, so people freaked.
***** Hilarious haha I want to know which extensions and how he's playing it! That combination of notes just really grabbed me, and my fingerpicking is terrible so I really want to learn it haha
I pretty sure I have this guitar which was left to me in my grandads will Does anyone know the price of this guitar it looks exactly the same as this guitar and smells old! In a case with purple felt??? Thanks any comments would be much appreciated
So. Fucking. Good. One of the best gear demo/reviews I've seen. Not only do I wanna buy everything, but I'd also kind of like to get drunk with Joel and possibly into a fist fight. Not with him of course, but maybe just some asshole at a bar. Absolutely wonderful gentlemen, well done.
do you disagree? wouldn't you like to be able to just go into a store and comfortably afford your favorite brand-name guitar, with all the gold hardware and decorations on it
yes.. save up $11,000 dollars... get real. and even then, most are too afraid to actually enjoy the instrument in gig settings because they're too afraid of damaging something that cost so much. bottom line is it's a lose-lose. guitars are just too expensive. no one wins
thibaut lecarpentier he did , he literally showed you more than you could ever appreciate on your own , hell, it can do law and order, whatta we talkin bout here, come on
The thing is that you too rough with these guitars , you should more it more gentle... They are like girls ... You might damaged them if you paly them that hard
Not sure what mesmerised me more...... The guitar of that intro piece 😊
I have the same guitar here in my house! A 69 black beauty! My dad bought in the 70' when he lived in UK! Never sold it! I'm brazilian btw!

I really love the ethereal, haunting sound of the first song he's playing. Anyone know what it is?
You sir, are a genius - that last bit with the volume swells is sweeeeeeeeeet!
Oh! That is just gorgeous. Really beautiful guitar.
I love Joel, his playing is great.

Law and order theme on the end was awesome! Sorry if i've failed to catch if that isn't actually their theme, but an actual classic. But awesome anyway!

I went to university for music. I asked the violin majors there if the hype was real. They said it was.
cool guitar, cool playing

Beautiful guitar, but how can you do a demo without really opening her up with some heavy rock riffs?
right, but when us young people, the future of the instrument, can't afford to own these, what's the point

it's kind of frustating...
thibaut lecarpentier he did , he literally showed you more than you could ever appreciate on your own , hell, it can do law and order, whatta we talkin bout here, come on
The thing is that you too rough with these guitars , you should more it more gentle... They are like girls ... You might damaged them if you paly them that hard
that was so gay
I would say it all depends upon the girl. some like it rough. lol. I was also joking with my original comment.
