Lucas Parks Yes, Jimmy Page used a tele aka the dragon tele on led zep 1 but in April of 1969 he got his famous #1 1959 les Paul burst that he used on everything from led zep 2 to their last album and live. I did use a tele on the stairway solo and a couple other songs. But if you watch any clips from the song remains the same show at MSG in 1973 he uses that famous les Paul he also played a strat on In The Evening on the In Through The Out Door album. But mostly his les Paul. If your wondering about amps and effects he used a Marshall Plexi live and smaller combo amps in the studio. For effects he used a Echoplex Tape Echo Delay and fuzz or overdrive he also used phaser and chorus.
Braxton Lambert when I visited chicago last year that was all I wanted to do. Every other touristy thing was secondary. And once i did it felt super surreal
I rarely, and by rarely I mean almost never, comment on videos. But this was glorious. The history lesson along with the performances just struck me in a way most content doesn't. I could watch these guys play all day. More please.
Something about this take of Ramble On reaches pretty deep. It captures a part of what brings people to the guitar in the first place. Getting a touch emotional here but this content made me feel something.
This is a wonderful tribute to the 58-60 Les Pauls with some great song choices "Ramble On" "Waiting For An Alibi" "In The Light" and the tone on "Hideaway" absolutely nails it, when I was a 16 year old all the guitarists I admired played one of these incredible instruments. They are rightly hailed as the Holy Grail of electric guitars. Thank you to all CME for this video.
WOW! Awesome guitars! I really enjoyed the musicians doing this video! I thought they played really good. Guys it was a pleasure to listen to you play these iconic guitars! Job well done!
You said the Burst was the only solid body Gibson made with PAF's. You apparently forgot about the Explorer and the Flying V (and the Moderne if one ever truly saw the light of day). And of course the '57 Goldtop had PAF'S.
What I find amazing about Guitars in general, is that they never wear out or break beyond repair so just about all that were ever made still exist now, and millions more are made every year!
Easily the best video you've done to date. Not only because of the Lp's. But when that Zep kicks in it's pure magic. Great Jams thru out! Well done! And that tone(s)!
Great demo! You covered all the basses. While I try not to covet things I know I will never be able to have,it's amazing how effortlessly you were able to cop the desired tones you went for.
This makes me so happy. Love seeing CME doing their thing with this over other stores that do the same boring thing each time. Also have one of the best guitar players aroudn demoing.
I've shopped at the music exchange and sold an old epiphone. The whole team were incredibly nice ppl and it's always a treat to make a road trip to get there.great place, great ppl
Such tasty, tasty players! Thank you so much for taking so much time to share these gems with us. I know how much effort this stuff takes and I’m so grateful that you guys give us a taste of these things most of us will never experience, in the flesh. Nice work!
Thank you for putting so much effort in sharing this. Those gems will most probably disappear in the inventories of some rich collectors until they will rotate again, so us common people can at least participate @here
It's only in recessions (the US have entered one probably, confirmations are always after the fact) that we realize all the hoopla and hyperbole surrounding vintage guitars (let alone bursts!). Bad moment to have so many of them in inventory. Emerald City Guitars have like six unsold... ouch. This being said, I love this CME store , one of my favorites by far. I hope they unload them soon. The guitars will come back to their value in the next upwards economic cycle, so I hope some buyers see this as an opportunity.
JSpic I hope not. I hope their value drops to the point that performing musicians might be able to play them live and maybe have an impact like some of the legends that have owned them before them. Burst values are absolutely ridiculous, they're just guitars.
Oh man, just great stuff all around, instruments and performances. Shout out to Joel Bauman - I've bought two beauties from him, and he has taken supremely good care of me 👌👍👍👍🎸🎸. Great playing, Joel!!!
Awesome video gentlemen!! Happy to say I have a R8 plain top and a R0 60th anniversary edition. What an incredible guitar that R0!!! There will be a R-9 in the future! I just bought a 98% condition CME Tomato Burst! So far it's a winner, BIG time!!
Y'all are awesome for this, thank you. They sound incredible. I swear, there's just this small gang of irreparably damaged souls that go around disliking videos like this
I lived in Rockford for a few years, and I didn’t know about CME until right before I had to move away. But I went and spent a couple hours there just the one time. I had so much fun, and got to play and hold things I never have anywhere else. My first full Marshall stack. I think it’s fine the bursts cost so much, but I played a reissue Clapton beano that day, which was 8 grand. I thought it really really average. My friend bought a studio faded that visit, and I liked it a lot more than the “old “ beano guitar. But that’s just subjective, it was probably good. Doesn’t matter, it was a lot of fun and everyone was very friendly. 👍🎶
Actually this is the best demo I've ever heard on Legit 58, 59 or 60 Burst's. That TONE!! Gravy of the Gods right there and killing guitar playing as well. Really enjoyed this one thank you!
After hearing ramble on it put mein mind of page playing ramble on in it might get loud and i am stuck by how incredible pages duncan custom shop bridge pickup in his number 1 sounds. It sounds amazingly close to a real paf . I wonder how many people will comment on this video by saying i thougjt page played all that stuff on a tele.
I've always been a fender guy, but have definitely had less Paul fever for a little bit here recently. Fingers crossed on the custom shop 60th anniversary.
One of the interesting things about PAFs (to me anyway) is that they're *not* high-output pickups in terms of overall level, yet they push just the right frequencies to get amps all hot & bothered. This quality seems to be the most elusive one when it comes to modern PAF repros.
Nice video, really, but I'm always disappointed when people fail to mention that Keith Richards was the first Rock and Roll guitarist to use one. A 59 he bought used in 64. Clapton is said to have used Keith's. Keith then sold his to Mick Taylor. Great video though!
I'll take all three! Where do I insert the card? Ok no nasty comments! No really Pay Pal personal check? What? They all sold?? Damn why didn't I get a call for God's sake?? Oh yeah I forgot...I'm Joe Schmoe from nowheresville. 😎
it is not a myth ...they are the stradavarius of guitars !!! The sustain ...and the growl and grunt and smoothness ...has yet to be matched or equaled !
You also need a set of Centralab pots and Sprague Bees to get the complete package. It’s surprising just how much of the tone of old Gibsons comes from the pots. Modern pots sound nothing like the old ones, and despite claims, no one makes anything on par with old Centralabs.
Can you have Daniel holding a cup of coffee in ever video? Then he should take a sip after everything he says. He just seems like he could sell the S$&t out of some coffee. The way he speaks is great
Bringing 3 bursts to a single location is how you summon Joe Bonamassa.
I'm surprised he hasn't bought these yet lol
TJ Anthony fuck Joe Bonamassa
gibsondrummer his music is trash but I like his knowledge and passion. His playing is amazing as well.
Why is that guy trying to buy every great old guitar in the world?
@@gibsondrummer no kiddin.
It just wouldn't be a Les Paul demo without playing some Zeppelin. I love it.
what song was that?
Ramble On
was he playing a Les Paul on that record? I know on Zep 1 he was using a Tele right?
Lucas Parks

No mention of Peter Green nullified the whole video.
So great to live across the street from this store.
Braxton Lambert I’d be flat broke living there.
Nice ;)
Braxton Lambert when I visited chicago last year that was all I wanted to do. Every other touristy thing was secondary. And once i did it felt super surreal
Oh man, your savings account must always be plundered!
Oh, yeah? Bet it is.
If you recorded the full songs, you should release them separately on RUclips
Whipping post was gorgeous.
Teran Andes I don't think they'd be allowed to, copyrights and so on.
@@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney World became a pussy these days.
@@jcsk8 lawyers, man.
these guitars will never see the inside of a club again
Darrien Day I hope they atleast will be played by some people on some albums.
They will, wait like 200 years, when people will play extreme guitar solos with them in space. LOL .
maybe its for the best... to have these old boys retire... to preserve them in order for everyone to enjoy (like this video)
These days if they were in a club they'd be tuned down to C so a guy could growl like Cookie Monster over them.
@@arthowardmusic3209 that's fine. as long as they're getting played. and if they get broken or damaged, eh-comes with the territory sometimes haha
That was 11:53 of my life well spent. Wow.

Reminds me of when jimmy was doing the voice over and also playing it in the film It Might Get Loud
If Zep don't get you fired up, your wood is wet!
What great recording/mixing. Jeeze. So much effort for a RUclips video.
unreal sound engineering, amazing
The clarity from those guitars when doing some of the open sounding chords was just great
So much effort to sell three guitars for around 1.5 million bucks. Totally makes sense to me. ;)

The Gibson Les Paul is guitar perfection even with its imperfections!
WOW! Awesome guitars! I really enjoyed the musicians doing this video! I thought they played really good. Guys it was a pleasure to listen to you play these iconic guitars! Job well done!
Thin Lizzy is the perfect song to play with two bursts
Splendid work chaps. Congrats to everyone involved in the production of this video
in the light is a super underrated zeppelin cut - quintessential les paul tone
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
This was epic, guys! Love the history and the jams. And I love my CME Burst!

One of the best introducing for the bursts and the history of Gibson products. They must've enjoyed playing those so much, good choice of songs too!!

My $1500 standard is worn from actually taking out!! And sounds just as good as a 5,000 custom shop
One of the 60's model is completely defective xD. Look at the "dancing pickguard" at 00:18. Please send me the guitar as soon as possible!!
Jaime Cerrada just don’t tell anyone that that “defect” can be corrected with a screwdriver 😉

It's great. I wound up ordering the Wildwood spec 1960 though because of the neck profile. Basically the same with a thinner neck
Glad to hear some Bloomfield recognition from these Chicago boys. Makes sense i suppose

these guitars are great. the reissues and luthier replicas do get pretty close though, like 90%+ there.
I gotta get down there, what a strange business move to drop the Les Paul when they did in the early days.
