    I knew this car, very well !!! Because it was going to be mine !!! In the 90s I worked as the Asst. Parts Manager in a Dodge Dealership in San Fernando, CA... It was called, Murphy/Shelby Dodge !!! Where this car was for 6 or 7 years that I worked there !!! We had the Car in exhibition in the Showroom Floor !!! After 3 years of me working there, the Dealership General Manager wanted Cars that could be sold in the Showroom Floor !!! So we moved the Car to the Mechanical side of the Shop !!! It was funny that the Mechanics that were asked to get the Car running were unsuccessful in doing so !!! I am a Mopar Muscle Car Head and have never liked or even looked at the Ford Product !!! Except for the 1970 to 1974 Ford Pantera Detomasos !!! They have always have had a special spot in my heart !!! Well I have had my eye on this Car for 3 years !!! And went and checked it out while it was on a hoist and saw the whole underside of this Car !!! I also noticed that the Mechanic that was working on this Car ordered Motorcraft Sparkplugs for a 351 Cleveland Engine !!! And then I spotted the Sparkplugs that came out of this Car, and they happened to be Champion RN9YCs ??? I said to myself a Mopar Plug in a Pantera ??? It can't be ??? I have those plugs in stock in my Parts Department !!! So, I grabbed a set of 8 plugs !!! I measured the gap on the plugs that came out of the Car and I believe it was .28 to .30 if I'm not mistaken !!! I regapped the new plugs that were .34 or .36, to the gap that was on the plugs that came out of the Car !!! At the same time I also got a flashlight and checked the engine out, till I found the engine casting number and The Mighty Chrysler Pentastar !!! It was I needed to see !!! I dropped the Car down on the hoist put the Mopar plugs in the engine !!! I tried turning the engine over that happened to be on a battery charger charging the battery !!! Unsuccessfully, like the luck that the Mechanic that working on it, had !!! I went in the Parts Department again and grabbed a brand new Dodge Diesel Truck Battery !!! And went back to the Car and installed the Battery !!! I sat in the Car and turned the ignition !!! And Viola !!! Bam, it fired up !!! It sound like a Pissed off Devil !!! I was shaking in joy and pride, that I was the one that figured out the formula to fire this Car up and had it running !!! I drove it to another lot where we kept some odd and end cars and a Boston Whaler that belong to Bill Murphy (the other Co-Owner of the Dealership) !!! I stashed the Car !!! The next day, I ordered a Top of the Line Car Cover for it and it went to sleep for another 2 to 3 years !!! Till I propersitioned Pops( that is what I used to call Carroll Shelby) !!! And took him to the lot and show him the Car !!! And told him that I ran the VIN Number with the DMV and the Car came out to registered to him and Peterson Museum !!! He kinda recalled but, with so many Cars in his memory !!! The Car didn't really mean much to him !!! That is when him and I made a Deal on the Car, and that I was going to buy it for $15,000.00 dollars, which in 3 or 4 days the Business Office Manager was to take out $500.00 out of my paycheck as the first payment for the Car !!! I was in 7th Heaven !!! Pops, instructed me to call a man named JL at Shelby Enterprises in Gardena and only speak to him !!! It turned out that JL, was Carroll Shelby's right hand man and was the man that oversees everything in the Gardena Shelby Facility !!! The following day, I called JL, and asked him to please locate the paperwork and title of the White Pantera ??? He immediately replied, NO !!! And questioned if I was crazy ??? I answered no sir, and told him that Pops and I made a Deal and that I was buying the Car !!! Mind you, I have had that Car stashed under a Car Cover for 3+ years and every so often, I would go sit in it and fire it up !!! I would literally get my adrenaline fix for the day and would go back to work !!! For 3+ years, I did that !!! I even had the thought of just driving or having the Car towed to my house, because nobody knew anything about this Car !!! But, I am not a thief and I knew if I ever had a chance of buying this Car ??? That, I would be blowing it if I did that !!! So, I never did that !!! So, when I made the phone call to JL, I kinda blew it anyway !!! Because the very next day !!! There was a Car Transporter Driver that came straight to my Parts Department with instructions to get me and to have me take him to the Car !!! That day my heart sank and I as I watched my Dream Chrysler Powered Pantera get loaded in the Simi-Truck Car Transporter and drive away !!! I lost a part of my heart !!! My eyes actually watered and I said to myself !!! It probably was not meant to be !!! And now that I saw this video !!! I am haunted again by this Car !!! And again my eyes are watering !!! Damn it !!! This Car Was Mine !!! Damn It !!!

That Car could have been and probably should have been in my garage, easy 5 years before this video, story and Car came to light !!! Damnit !!! 😢😭,. Deep Down Inside, I am in Peace... I have my 70 'Cuda, 71 Roadrunner, and my 68 Dodge Dart GTS !!! What More can a Man ask for !!! Happy, Grateful and Peace of Mind 🙏🙏🙏

      @@lacycoosbmx I dont see why you would consider yourself a theif when $500.00 were taken from your pay as a down payment. The car was yours, and you had every right to take it home, period. Never let a car of high value that belongs to you sit in another mans garage. I had a similar experience with a Chevy 55 Belair coupe when I was 18 years of age, back in 1986. The car was 100% mine, I made the stupid mistake of leaving it in someones backyard a mile away from where I lived. 6 months later the car was gone, stolen. Me and my girlfriend at that time had spent every penny we had in restoring that car. Until this day, I feel the pain of loosing that car. Lesson learned.

      God and I know that I should have done exactly that !!! But, I actually told Pops that the Car was stay parked where it was at till I paid it off or that parking spot was needed for something else !!! A Car Dealer and Huge Businessman, made me Cry by telling me that the Stupid Title means nothing !!! That I should've take it home and respectfully made my payments !!! And later on, file a lost Title with the DMV !!! That is exactly, when my eyes opened up and poured !!! The knowledge of certain little iffy things (could be within the law) that some people know ??? Never ceases to amaze me !!! Damn, I F√©k up !!! Now, Pops is Gone and Resting in Peace and I am Rolling in my Grave, that I haven't even gotten to yet !!! What a Traumatic Loss that this Car has become !!! 💔👎 Now, I feel like Crap, again !!!

    Alejandro DeTomaso was Argentinian, not Italian. His main manufacturing company was in Italy though. He was not an executive at De Tomaso, he was The Owner and Founder of his own company: De Tomaso ( founded in 1959 ). You will notice that on the original DeTomasos, the trademark emblem are the colors of the Argentinian flag: Light blue and white. You can see that in this video too, it appears at 1:50, front hood . The logo also appeared in the wheel caps and steering wheel. Italians like to brag its an Italian car, and americans call it the american supercar, but the beast is Argentine. Shelby worked with him, but two big egos are too big egos, and their relationship soured quickly, each going their own way...Sorry. Alejandro was very proud of mentioning that this was an Argentine car, it came into fruition long after Shelby had been gone, which was even way before the De Tomaso Mangusta came into existance.... DeTomaso took over Maserati (bought the holding) too, in the early 1970s when Maserati was bankrupt and made it a profitable, sustainable company until he sold the holding. He was always in charge of his own founding company De Tomaso, throughout its entire existence up until 1993 when his son took over. I do know they also had an affair with Daihatsu too, when his son took over, although not sure to what extent though. His cars are perhaps even more sought out today than when they came out, great design but had some bugs, pretty much like any supercar of that era, although perhaps less bugs than the average super car of that era.
    Shelby had a shot at revamping his business enemy car.., long after the original car hit the market. He was not the creator of this car.
    The Detomaso Pantera, is an Alejandro Detomaso brain child. Period.

      He said he was Argentinian.. You don't listen. Both the Mangusta and Pantera were team design efforts. The principal Italian designer also did the Fiat X19 and even the Innocenti. Many design elements are shared, but your facts are sloppy. Name the designers... All of them. Give credit where it is due. One was American btw.

With your skewed view- criteria, 90% of Argentinians are not Argentinians, but rather Italians or of other European nationality, including myself. You should write a letter to the United Nations comitee expressing this international injustice and request that almost all Argentinian nationals, and Argentina, to be rebaptized from now on, Italy número 2.

      So, following your logic, is Bugatti an Italian company? Because Ettore Bugatti was Italian, and the first Bugattis were all designed by him...
      Anyway, If Italians(not just Italians) consider De Tomaso cars to be Italian, there are valid reasons:
      1- The company is located in Italy. Alejandro De Tomaso knew very well that only in Modena he could create such cars.
      2- Chassis are designed by the Italian engineer Gianpaolo Dallara.
      3- The Body was by Italian design center Ghia (Giugiaro for the Mangusta and Tom Tjaarda for the Pantera).
      4- Assembled line was in Turin, at the Vignale factory.
      But the Engine is a Ford.
      So, maybe it's not a 100% Italian car, but sure not an Argentine car.

    I walked past it thinking it was a Lamborghini but went back to read the window info
    It was one of 12 panteras given to shelby to homogalize for Ford not Chrysler and yes it had those same stress cracks on the rear spoiler but still had the original Ford motor with twin turbos however with the Vietnam war going on it was decided that the target market of younger males was dealing with the draft and war protests so the project was cancelled
    Along with the one test car there were 11 untitled and unregistered new De Temoso panteras parked right next to it with many other test bed autos

    Shelby and his GT40’s used to get destroyed on tracks by a Pantera built for the track in CT. Shelby thanked the owner and driver of that Pantera because it proved to him that they needed to improve the GT40. That Pantera destroyed everything and was recently purchased. Oh ya it was powered by a 351 Cleveland, with a little more hp than stock in that car.

    • @HarrisonJBounel
      @HarrisonJBounel 2 года назад +1

      The 351 Cleveland came into production several years after the Gt40 program was over with and left to the history books.Tell us some lies we might believe next time.

    • @andykerr3803
      @andykerr3803 Год назад

      @@HarrisonJBounelNo, that is the truth. It was a yellow Pantera, just sold with extra race parts. You will find it here on RUclips. The quote of Carol Shelby was also accurate. Don't call people liars, because you are unaware. Want to talk cars? The 351 boss was a derivative of the original Mangusta 289, which put out over 320 hp, more than the later 302. The 351 was also called an HO by some, but it's still a Cleveland. Panteras and also Mangustas are capable of great handling when modified, although the Mangusta has a totally different frame...Spine. The Yellow Pantera was raced privately, but there were many that were fast at that time. So who is the liar? Answer.

    • @robertrobinson3861
      @robertrobinson3861 Год назад +1

      @@andykerr3803 While the Boss 302 was basically a Winsor 302 (which was in turn a stroked W289) with Cleveland style heads and four bolt mains, the Cleveland 351 in standard and 'Boss' versions is not usually classed as a derivative. For all intents and purposes, it was a new design, while keeping some aspects of the older engines, such as head bolt and main tunnel spacing.

    • @andykerr3803
      @andykerr3803 Год назад

      @@robertrobinson3861 They even chop those cylinder heads in pieces and oven braze them back together for the 6 cylinder, complete with plates to change the exhaust angle... Yes, the variety is boggling. The original 289 in the Mangusta was perhaps the inititiator at well over 300 hp, the 302 at that time was way less, both offered on that car. The Cleveland design overall lends itself well to larger displacements as the M400, but of course the Windsor can also reach nearly 450 cid in aftermarket applications. There seems to have been an inherent bottom end lubrication issue with the Cleveland that needs attention. Possibly the overall system was not geared for hydraulic valve lifters hogging the flow... I remember Ford even selling a 4 cylinder Motorsport block for that head, the 385 too! Those were the days...
      Cheers 🍻

      289 Cobras were AC bodies and frames and ridiculous transverse leaf spring front suspension. However 427 Cobras only shared a very similar body to the 289 cars. It is also true that the first 289 powered GT40 were Lola built chassis with Ford engine and Ford contract built in the US trans axle. However once again after the 289 car proved to be underpowered for some tracks Ford took the lessons from Lola and with input from Carrol Shelby and his crew built the 427 powered GT40 with Shelby. Or vica versa as it depends on how you look at it. The GT40 only ever happened because of Ford money and massive research and development ability but the package as a whole was conceptualized by Shelby's business and ultimately produced because of there vision, experience and ability. As a side note a 427 powered Shelby Daytona coupe would completely obliterate a Pantera on all but the shortest tightest of race tracks as would a GT40 as well.

    The Mangusta was as raw as a kit car and if you ever drove or rode in a Pantera and considered that a refined machine. Ha Ha. Well compared to the 'Gus' it was, some what. They were small cars like VW bugs with hi-pro V-8s where a back seat usually goes. Too bad De Tomaso couldn't deliver enough cars to the Link-Merc dealers to keep the Deuce (Henry Ford II) happy.

    You really should have touch upon Iacocca's falling out with Henry Ford the 2nd that lead to him being the executive at Chrystler that lead to the development of the Viper. The gas crisis lead Ford needing to make a new fuel efficient car and Iacocca wanted to bring the Escort from Ford Europe over as it was the best selling compact car year in and year out over there, and Henry refused to admit that Ford Europe had a beat them to the punch (by a whole decade at that) and instead stubbornly developed a whole new car from the ground up, the Pinto...and we all know how that ended.
