I remember this period very well. Being born in 1950, I was a teenager in the 60s. The life revolved around 3 things, phenomenal music, pretty girls and fast cars. Being from Texas, Carroll Shelby was a god to us. I had a 67 Mustang as a 16th birthday present from my parents. I got in in Sept 1966, right when the new 67s came out and only months after LeMans where the GT-40s finished 1-2-3 and thumped Enzo Ferrari on the nose.... hard! It was like winning WWII all over again. Thanks to ALL the men whose genius and talent gave us the pony and muscle car era and gave us old codgers such epic memories!
Treasure the memory and tell your grandkids this story david. I'm afraid we'll never again see those days when America WAS the world Super power.
@@rickbailey189 , you are so correct. Few American people are born with the drive to achieve greatness anymore.
David Bruce I'm about a Decade older Than You, like Shelby I was into Aviation when friends were building Model Cars, I was building Model Planes, My Car Driving was Limited to 250+ Miles per Hour Model Cars, Slot Cars I was into Boots and Guns starting with a tin Star and a pair of Cap Guns to as an Adult A Shield and 357 Revolver, a 1911 Semi Auto to finally A G22 Glock, I was forced to retire about 92 or 93 after my 4th Heart Attack my Rank was Captain then .. .
My Wife of 45+ Years was a great help then with our 3 grown children .. .

Possibly we Shall be again if we get a Democrat like Harry S. Truman or a Republican like Ronald Regan !! !
@@alvinglenn458 Those men were true LEADERS unlike the spineless leadership(yellow) we have today many of whom don't give a damn about our beautiful America. We're the laughing stock of the world. It just grieves me what America has become.
Shelby himself said he finished his last race in 1960 winning after the 5th Nitro Glyceryn pill, and said to himself "I am done driving". No fan fare, no year long tour of making millions as his finishes kept getting worse. Such is commonplace today. Gotta respect that. That being said he went on to become a huge legend of American racing and sports car building. Winning the 66 Le Mans was the icing on the cake by beating Ferrari for the 2nd time! RIP Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby ,Dan Gourney ,Phil Hill,Peter Brock These guys were all my hero's as a young, and older, Ford Racing fan, and competitor.
Carroll was a great man, and it was an honor to work for him. R.I.P.
Did you really work for him?
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a method to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Casey Ayaan Instablaster :)
@William Roberto I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@William Roberto It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
The man is a legend who will forever have his name in the automotive hall of fame. There will never be another racing legend quite like him.
Amen 🇺🇸
There was an equal..Bruce mclaren!
Carroll Shelby: An interview with an American RACING LEGEND.
That is a much more appropriate title for this man who IS a racing legend. 👍👍
Rest in peace Carroll Shelby he was a hell of a man!
Amen
Is
There is a lot of boys named Carroll and a lot of girls named Shelby because of him.
AMEN TO THAT 😤🤬😅..!!
A true American!
44:25 "I went to Africa for 10 years, I wanted to see Africa before it was gone" Not only a legendary performance business genius, but a cultured visionary.
I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you. I call that remark BS!
Before china strips it all down for precious metals and lithium
He went there to run hunting safaris… not exactly visionary.
R.I.P. Caroll there will never be man like you...
35:00 or so. It was very nice to hear what Mr. Shelby had to say about the awesomely awesome Ken Miles. I hope Ken's son gets to hear about things like this because there was only ever one guy on the whole planet who was Ken Miles. This is probably not true but it can sometimes seem like we'll never again see the likes of folks like Carroll Shelby or Ken Miles. They fit into automobile racing in such a neat way and I'll never get tired of hearing the stories of Ford's very spirited racing program in the 1960s.
I am not a Ford fan to say the least but have to acknowledge what Ford has done over the years for the automotive industry in general and for racing. They did not make the man Carol Shelby but they did promote him, his team, and to some small degree his ideals. I am a fan of Mr Shelby and happy to say I had the chance to meet him in his shop at Las Vegas Speedway 20 years ago. If I had one word to describe the man it is " Character". I saw the movie last year and thought it was excellent , I was glad to see they mentioned Ken Mills in this and to see the reaction of Mr. Shelby when he spoke of the loss of his friend, even after 20 plus years. Not sure who the 222 people were who gave a thumbs down to this video but they are entitled to there own opinions.
You are not a fan of western civilization. You’re a fool.
Trolls
Not really a documentary, but a great story told about a great man! Worth watching. Hat's off to the writer, producers and narrator.
+William McGloghlon Glad you enjoyed this documentary! ;)
I agree....this team put together a fantastic honorarium to Carroll.....this was a pleasure to watch.
Carroll Shelby : an interview with the snake. So, I don't believe anybody really called it a documentary, and it's worth watching anyway. I already knew much if not most, but definitely not all. And still interesting. But then, my 4 legged furry daughter is named after him. So, you could say I've always been more than a bit of a fan...
Why isn't it a documentary? It shows pictures and interviews with real people about a real person and tells a real story about people who were influential in the development of high-performance sports cars. In what way would a documentary have been different than this?
HalYour
Iève watched this about 4 times now and I still enjoy it! RIP Carroll Shelby.
This is what a call a great documentary, mixture of interviews, background stories, archive footages and cool music, just a joy to watch!
This man is a Genius... Anybody who loves mustangs with a passion they would know who this man is..
of course any passionate mustang fan knows who this guy is they'd be stupid if they didn't know who this guy is/was ERRGH IT JUST DRIVES ME NUCKING FUTS HOW IGNORENT PEOPLE CAN BE 😤🤬..!!
@@65coupestang yeah, ignorAnt enough not being able too spell a common word such as ignorAnt.
Another thing "passionate" is far from the same things as *knowledgeable" . That's the word you should have been using. Now I assume you're either joking or you're high on something because there's no way you're actually for real.
Henry Ford became the world's first billionaire. Saw this on the History channel. I didn't know this.
@Phantom Alpha
I thought Firestone had a falling out with Ford over the tire separation problem?
@Phantom Alpha
Thank you, I didn't know that.
Having raced in SCCA for a number of years I have always admired the Shelby cobras. I named two of my past dogs, one Shelby and the other Cobra and I now have a dog named Porsche.
I must have watched this 100+ times so far... just listening to Shelby talk about all of it, it never gets old!
A American Icon R.I.P You earned it.
I thought it was great to see how humble he was. Giving credit to everybody that was involved. More 'we' than 'I' in his heart. Nobody would argue he was the glue but, it takes a lot of people to make the history they all did...
Ever see my name, I built the 427 Cobras.
@@andrecapella370 Awesome! I'd say you were a part of history Mr Capella but, that doesn't seem to cover it adequately! YOU are history! I feel honored that you took the time to respond to my post! Thank you!!
THE RIGHT MAN, WITH THE RIGHT IDEA, AT THE RIGHT TIME.
RICK KOPEC TOLD ME THIS, AND HE IS SPOT ON.
That era with the turbocharged 4 cylinders in mid '80s was very underrated. Dodge Shadow ES from 87 onward and Dodge Omni were great sleepers.
Carroll Shelby has always been an idol of mine, I wish I could have known the man.
That beginning was so funny "hell of a ride"
I was an infant being driven around in a 67 289 metallic green fastback.most beautiful vehicle I can recall.i now own a beast gt what a great legacy
Thanks for sharing this. I have even more respect for this man and his accomplishments. There will never be another Carol Shelby. Makes me wish I had a chance to meet him. /salute
scat pack?? awsome !!!
Thanks to all that made this Era great to grow up in.
An American National Treasure. Will we ever see another like him?
sadly probably not
We will certainly see another of his competence.
At 19 I worked for Carroll at his GoodYear Tire store. I didn't really understand at the time who I was working for. He had me drive his green GT 500 Mustang to the dealer to have it serviced. I took all the GoodYear Indy tires to the Fontana race track, and while I was unloading the tires, Al & Bobby Unser were standing on by the pit wall. I was too afraid to go over and say hi. But in my mind I was thinking, holy smoke, they really are real people. I think AL won the Indy 500 that year.
I lived and worked in Dawsonville, Georgia for a bit....kinda a FORD area, and had arrived in a U-Haul with an AMC AMX drag car on a trailer, an AMC Matador, a 69 Camaro, a 68 Camaro, a Chevy Berretta GT, and within months had a NASCAR built local 69 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II, built by Bill Elliott's dad George. My golden retriever/ chow mix was named SHELBY. Life was good. Friday dinner at Phil Bonner's restaurant....Mr. B's.... Lunch at the Pool Room.
Thank you Carroll and Everybody at Shelby American..!!
That was really a very cool interview with Carroll Shelby really enjoyed it quite a bit the man is the last of his breed just really cool guy who did what he wanted to do and did what he felt was right and that is something that is seriously lacking in today's Auto industry.!!!!
Did not carroll but i. Loved his cars i have 1964 a half Mustang now rip
The part where he’s popping nitroglycerin while he’s driving to treat chest pain (angina) from a bad heart. That’s pretty much all anyone needs to know.
My first car
I look at my wall each day and see my 66 Mustang Ford GT, I had so much fun back then. It is quite a trip burying a 140 speedometer with a HP 289cu. 3 speed. Good all around wheels on the strip or road racing. Wide and low and boy it could go.
What a treat to hear this Icon of motorsports speak about his experiences.
The parts of this piece with Shel behind his desk min nhis office were done six weeks after his heart transplant. He lived to be the longest surviving heart transplant patient in history.
Woah! How long was that? Long time on immunosuppressants!
What was up with his heart?
@@SpenserRoger he survived for 22years. I did the office interview, he treated me like royalty from then on. He was a great man and a good friend, and I miss him.
Wish I could have met this man..............What a Legend
I did, it was a pleasure each time.
I have 1 picture that I treasure above the others, myself and Carroll standing next to each other.
I am here to watch after Ford VS Ferrari movie. Shelby and Kevin Miles was one hell of a man . Loved them!! Rest in peace Shelby and Kevin. Ford deserves all the loss right now!

1:20 - Grand Sport Corvette at Road America
30:05 - the Boot at Watkins Glen
I admire Caroll Shelby. Now more than ever. Thanks for a great video.
RIP Caroll Shelby. Thankyou for the ride.
I thought I knew about Shelby cars before. But I learned a lot from this video about the cars and the man. Great interview!
same here, I never knew the "daytona coupe" was first revealed at the daytona auto event/show whicheve it's called 🤔..??
He was a wonderful man. A man’s man. It was a pleasure to know this giant. The John Wayne of the automobile world. A stud!
He was a wonderful person to interview - and to spend time with, as you know. Thanks, Bobby for watching and commenting!
Awesome guy, stay cool Bobby 🇬🇧💪⚡❤️🇺🇸
Shelby was a patriot. Rip brother.
I know how Shelby felt. 20 years later in 1985 I was 20 and working at The Brassworks, designing and fabricating custom and classic car radiators. I had built my Hot Rod and was living the dream for the two years I worked there.
A man with a vision and the knowledge who transformed the Mustang into a great success on the track in the 60's. The Ford GT was a winner then and still is today. RIP Mr. Shelby you are missed.
I seem to come these videos late. I was born in 1951 and I became a car guy early. By the early 1960s and a father who was a Ford guy introduced me to this stuff and Carroll Shelby. The fact that his early car was a MG still makes me smile. This video adds to my appreciation. Very cool! Thanks for posting!
Shelby and Jay Leno in the same video? this is going in my favorites for sure
+thatbattlefield dude Glad you like it!
LOL! The second it ended that's exactly what I did.

Carroll Shelby! Wow! what a man.And that is from a Brit.Great Man.loved by so many here in Britain.
Damn, I never knew Carroll took some time to do the things he never had and blessed the rains down in Africa.
What a great story. What a great car, What GREAT Man
Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles is legend
Great show and interview with Carroll Shelby - nice work Jim and WheelsTV team
Wow couldn't get over how Young Jay Leno looked👍🏼😎🇨🇦
90's Chrysler dealer technician checking in-all of these are good products ( I did sorta laugh with the omni sales ad)- the power levels across platforms was impressive-Go Team Shelby/Mopar! BigMike&The Mechanics.
24:00 the raceversion of the 427 made +550hp at that time but was detuned slightly for the Cobras
33:55 "we did a lot of work on it.." The GT40 was totally rebuilt by Holman-Moody with a wider & stronger steel-frame to handle the mighty 427
I have never heard anyone make a joke about this man and his name Caroll. Never. Now that is respect for you. Respect earned, not demanded. A King because he behaved like one, not because he inherited the title.
No king, no inheritance, (but there is nothing wrong with passing what you earned to your own family). You are thinking like opposition to a dictatorship or a monarchy, (as you must see the USA), not for appreciation of individual liberty and our free market that allowed Carrol to be Carrol, (and every great individual to be great in the USA---for us to follow). This man was a individual with a rational thinking mind, and he flourished in OUR free market, (what is left of it and individual liberty). Ohhhh--the king or dictator would never allow that as every "thinker" is shut down under their rule. Man has to have freedom to use their mind and explore the best of it's ability. Of course, with that liberty, he had no desire to rule over people, he just loved his work and wanted to be the best at what he did, (and prosper from his efforts). That---is the definition of freedom.
EarthSurferUSA thought it was one knobhead. But no there’s two.
There’s only one other person I can think of who embodied the mystique of a car brand the way Carroll Shelby did. Enzo.
What a genuine guy, we need more ##
honestly if caroll shelby didnt have a problem with electric cars than im in no place to dislike them myself
It is nicer to see little old ladies driving them around instead of muscle cars.
Awesome man and great racing driver... R.I.P.
Amen 🇺🇸
This is such a great video honoring a terrific man and legend. I watch it at least twice a year!
very nice video
thank u for sharing this
My 2 favorite ppl Shelby and Leno ♥️👍🇺🇸
Wins with cars but loses in relationships. Married 7 times & his death only stopped the last. Shelby died at 89.
What an amazing being omg no words can describe Carrol Shelby ❤️
I saw my 1st Shelby Mustang at Tasca Ford 1966 in Providence RI They had 10 in stock
I just bought Le Mans 66 Brilliant fim . both actors representing Shelby abd Miles doing a brilliant job . Thoroughly recommended
Carroll Shelby is my model senior citizen with a great history, humility, love of family, and still test driving high performance Cobra creations in his nineties! As I approach 70, I am still learning about his contributions to auto performance history.
John McTyre Sadly Carroll never reached 90. ☹️
Dress shirt, tie, coveralls, and ratty hat...class
The SheLby race cars that I saw around my area in Los AngeLes growing up were a 1965 GT 350 that a neighbor owned around the corner from my parents house and a 1966 427 Cobra down in Encino in the San Fernando Valley . . .in 1984 I turned 16 and my very first car was a white with bLack trim 302 Mustang GT !
I wish I could of hung out with him for a day ! He is a man's man what it means to be American!
As I grew up Carroll Shelby was my idol. My uncle bought the first Thunderbird in 1955 sold in Texas.
In 1969 my aunt totaled the Thunderbird.
My uncle bought the car back and started restoring it. He had a hair up his b-tt and bought a new 429 cobra engine. He used Corral Shelby's ideal but bored the 429 out to 460.
Man did that car fly.
I rode with my uncle once and he had the car up to a145 miles an hour and scared the hell out of me but I was hooked on speed from that day forward.
My love for that T-Bird had me hooked on it.
My dream was to own it but unfortunately this didn't happen.
My uncle sold the car in 1983 for more money than I could afford plus my dad told my uncle I probably would get into a lot of trouble with it.
Which is more than likely the truth.
I ended up with a 1973 mustang mark 1 with a 351 modified 400 which within a few months I hoped it up.
But to this day I am a corral Shelby fan and he still is my idol.
Thanks to him I gain the love of speed a the love of cobra's for which I have wanted one ever sense.
In my opinion Ford without Corral Shelby helped make ford successful in part with the Cobra.
Excellent documentation. Thank you for posting it.
+HarryHunterx You're very welcome!
What a legend and great person. enjoyed this video.
Excellent subject of real cars and the men who worked hard for excellence!
Thank you Carroll
I was driving through Denver North Carolina in the 70’s. Saw two Cobras sitting at a small auto shop. Turned around and went back. Both were for sale for 8000 each. I wanted one so bad but that’s was about all I made in a year.
And you had the dream, good for you.
Great to watch. With all the misinformation after the new Ford versus Ferrari film. It’s just great to watch this video.
Great doc. Needs to be seen by more people.
I love that you call this the interview of the snake😁❤️
🐍
I am 76 and grew up in that era. Everyone wanted a 427 Cobra. It was unobtainium.
I fixed up a 65 mustang, my Grandfather gave me for my 16th birthday, that was 35 years ago. I've been hooked ever since, I got a gt 500 5 years ago, now I need a gt 350 R to complete the dream.
My moms cousin has a GT 350 she bought new the year she graduated from high school. Pretty cool old gal.
Great interview from the great Mr.Carroll Shelby and others... although I'm a chevy man, I appreciate all automobiles and I've been wanting to build a mustang to put in the coral with my 7 GM's. Soon, very soon.
Thank you Carroll Shelby,🕊️❤️🙏
why hasn't anybody commented in this beautiful documentary?
Going to be a lot of people coming back to this because of the Ford V Ferrari movie with Jason Bourne and Batman.
WHAT, Ben Affleck is in that movie!?!
One of my great american heroes, come on people lets get out there and make things happen, happy 2016
gilles figuier how'd that work out for you?
I am going to check out the movie: Ford vs. Ferrari. This should be an exciting movie about a man who inspired modern racing.
DJ Lew Productions Inc. I hope the movie is good. Too often Hollywood goes overboard and ruins good stories.
I hope you saw it, its a damn good movie that kept me at the edge of my seat.
The smartest thing ford ever did.
RIP KEN MILES
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes...RIP Ken....a true road warrior
Shelby didn't rebuild the guy's engine with his money, lol. Love the guy though.
RIP Mclaren

34:46 was so satisfying for me to see the same emotions which matt damon portrayed in that last scene #fordvferrari #ken&carroll ❤🏁
no cheesy music. thumbs up just because of that
Thanks well done great audio all the way thru...bravo gratzi
Thank you Sir!
My first knowledge of this story was from the history channel . So I watched the movie and this interview .
It's the great American free thinking . Achievement of ingenuity. Team work
And individuality 🇺🇸
Great documentary, but even though the Sunbeam Tiger wasn't one of Shelby's cars, it would've been kinda cool to hear a little about it since he had a hand building it. Ive got a Sunbeam myself and my brother used to have one of the turbo Shelby Chargers. About the only thing Shelby related we'd ever be able to own. A guy a mile and a half down the road from me has two all original GT350H's he's had since the early 70's. Needless to say, him and I are pretty good buddies now. Lol.
right on
People don't realise shelby was selling 427s/c cobras without the comp spec engines and Ford found out and told shelby if anyone had a complaint he would have to correct it out of his own pocket!! Cobras coupes were uk built and at over 190mph on the M1 is why we still have a 70mph speed limit
😅
my 98 4.6L V8 GT has cobra headers carroll Shelby is my hero thanks for the fun and I'll make sure to make you proud sir
Vairon Alonso this comment makes no sense. How would you have cobra headers on a 2v?
The Dodge commercials were hilarious
