Excellent video depicting the total destruction of a way of life in this town. Probably no one living here will not be affected by the losses you have shown in your video. Also a telling look at what fire does to the inner and outer structures of fire buildings. The twisted metal really tells a story of the heat generated by this fire......A terrific job, JJ and Skyler. As always, you guys go above and beyond. I hope your medical issues resulting from your coverage of this disaster are not terribly serious. Thanks again.

now that I watched this entire video I will say your more than a fire buff you show sadness and credit historic value of the loss of the Building, Personnel and
    the town.
Last night when I watched your main video a staging are spoken of a few times was "Dunkin Donuts" and immediately I said to myself I bet
the majority of their sales came from the employment of Marcal..........How sad!
John you are more than a Fire Buff you and your narration work make you a historian! I am saddened to hear this work may have hurt you so I say hope the
damage to your skin is not that bad and/or you can heal from it quickly!
You know you are in many persons heart and thoughts John!
Many of the adjoining businesses that appear closed may not have had there power put back on?
Again remembering that structure less involved as you first entered the fire ground area then later fully involved and you caught different sections of it collapsing
several portions of the four story building reduced to a floor and a half or less.
Was that fire Photographer shooting that damages SUV, Skyler? Did he take a picture of you while doing this frigid work

@@jjrrhh1983 Elmwood Park is a suburb of Paterson and part of the greater Paterson area. The same goes for West Paterson (Woodland Park), Totowa, Little Falls, Clifton, Wayne, etc. And Elmwood Park was once called EAST PATERSON. Hawthorne was unofficially called NORTH PATERSON and was part of Paterson's 2 northernmost wards. So yeah, this guy is not too far from the truth. And by the way, Paterson is the oldest city in the Bergen/Passaic County area and was the most important! Not a small mediocre town that changed its name because the residence didn't want any association with the city across the river.

You have to be licences by the FAA to operate a drone, I believe the paperwork comes in the box. Also you need additional permission by each of the cities and they have rules about how close and where you can fly a drone, some ban them over public parks, etc.

First of all, great video work all around. Great job to all first responders who responded. This was a huge inferno. Also, great to see no one injured, especially in such a huge facility blaze. I did some research on Soundview / Marcal. They are owned by Atlas Holdings in Greenwich CT. It's a multibillion dollar corporation. It appears that Soundview also owns the smaller plant on the other side of the railroad tracks as well as what appears to be a huge distribution center on the other side of route 80 (I 80). I would suspect that Atlas board members met this weekend about financials on rebuilding and Soundview / Marcal board members probably met today on production, supply and logistics as they have a fantastic customer base and with a decent profitability and great product reputation. It appears they have a smaller plant in Vermont. We shall see and I am hopeful and I would imagine that they will rebuild in this location due to marketing in the tri-state area (Marcal sign on route 80 is invaluable). I would imagine that insurance funds and possible funds from NJ and Bergen County would go towards reconstruction. I would imagine that reconstruction will be one year. In the mean time Soundview / Marcal will need to brainstorm to get in some new equipment and maybe some temporary warehouse space for production all the while ensuring that supply distribution is not interrupted during all of this. I hope the union, NJ and Bergen County can chip in for those who end up on unemployment which comps at half to two thirds of a regular pay check (usually not enough to make ends meet). I was born in Teaneck back in 67 - not too far from here.As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going....something they do very well in NJ.

When I watched your videos on this tragic fire about nine months ago, and realized this was an old paper mill, I realized no way will they be able to save it. Generations of paper dust everywhere hidden, etc. No sprinkler system could probably have helped much, if any. It was just too massive of a fire.
So, many months later, since I see no new comments, I wonder if they found a cause? And, will they be able to rebuild on the existing land? I realize that present day safety requirements may make it impractical for the owners to do so.
JJ, I hope your frost bite has healed with no permanent damage. Take care, my friend!

Thank you for showing the fire and what it looks like after and in the daylight. Last night about all you could was RED of the fire. Yes, like you said, the area is what is going to be hit the hardest. 24 hours later and the fire is still not dead cold. When you walked by the little building I could still see black smoke coming out, and the Fire fighters were still pouring water on the mess. From what you showed and Google Map the fire wiped out a whole block. Is that correct? Thanks for sharing.

I've seen this fire from start to finish. The recordings are incredible. It was apocalyptic. I am deeply concerned and sad. The pictures the day after show an area as if it were from another planet. Clouds of intoxication still rise from individual embers. I come from Germany, here the employees would be helped immediately, they would receive unemployment benefits and health insurance would continue to be paid. Open wage claims would be reimbursed by the state. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the USA. Because, no one who worked here became unemployed through no fault of their own. My name is Uwe and I come from Aachen, also known as the world equestrian sport CHIO Aachen.

Usually the culprit is a bad bearing somewhere on a paper machine or a conveyor. I heard that this mill had a couple of fires very recently so it sounds like maintenance wasn't a high priority . I Seriously doubt that they rebuild.

Hi from the UK. I've watched two videos of this devastating fire.
I'd like to ask, are you an office FDNY photographer?
We have nothing over here we we get videos from active fire locations.
Also, has the site been fully cleared and if so, do they intend to rebuild?

John terrific video, even better than one of the fire. Please, please get yourself better clothing. Go to a sporting goods or construction workers store, You need long johns, snow pants, a hooded parka, very good temp rated boots a face mask. If your head, feet and core are warm and you avoid caffine and nicotine your body will send much more heat to your hands. For $80 to $100 you can get gloves which are warm and flexible.. I worked outside for 30 years and much of the time could take gloves off for delicate work, even with temps of minus 20 and windchill of minus 60. Do not injure yourself and stop your great videos.
