Right call by fire command going to tower ladders, no reason to risk members safety going in a long-standing vacant building.Unfortunately I am used to seeing this particular situation with vacant structures across the Hudson in Newark,Paterson,Camden,and Trenton,my friend.Thanks again for bringing this issue to light and stay safe out there.

My Dad grew up in Trenton and it broke his heart how terrible the once-lovely city deteriorated over the decades. We’d visit family and drive through the parts of town he remembered and it was truly sad.

Great video John. A sad truth in many big cities. Hedge funds and other investors are buying up properties, destroying old structures and putting up whatever the hell they want to there, then selling it short and reaping the profits.

I always prefer your coverage over others. Your knowledge of the city, her people and the structures give us a sense of belonging even if we are thousands of miles away. Viewing on the “Majestirium” is the best way to see and learn. I really appreciate the fact that you never criticize the first responders and admit to not having answers when a unique situation arises. You give us that sense of walking around incident scenes as if we are with you. I also note how you do not bother fire and police officials while they are working the scenes. That indicates their professionalism and yours. However, it is clear they all know you and obviously give you more latitude than if we were alone. One last thing. Be careful! We would rather read about an incident than hear that you got injured working a scene for us.

Looked it up-1985 3rd Ave.; built 1900 listed as an elevator apt, fireproof (put in 1987) sold in 2019 for 20 million.

I just rewatched this (after watching your follow-up video) and around the 29:00 mark when TL22 was overhauling the cornice is when my cat jumped up onto the TV shelf and started swatting at the cornice and the windows too. That's why she's the CAT-talion Chief in my house 😹
Great catch John, you do an amazing job as always. Vacant building hmmmm, possibly set by squatters or faulty wiring. Such a shame to see these old buildings go up in flames. Great catch, JJ and great call to go to Tower Ladders and outside ops on a vacant building! I am haunted by a video I belive shot in the LA area where they had an inferno in a vacant building and they had members performing insane and useless roof ops when the roof collapsed! Tragic!

I know that area. The lots next to that building have been empty since around 2016 and if they tear down that conner building after the fire, someone will buy that land and put up a luxury building on it.

Hey "J.J." Very "interesting" video: 1.) A big 'ole building with a four story LAND for sale sign. 2.) These buildings somehow manage to catch fire. 3.) Wana bet that POS catches fire again? 4.) No way ambient high heat & humidity by itself will ignite fires like this. I didnt know 199 was an abandoned building now. I Rember When Don Tito use to own that building bsck in the 70's - the early 90's and next door the building was vacant and had an electronics store in the bottom snd on 199 was a pizza shop

@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1I just read on Citizen that one man was living in the building who grew up there and refused to move out for years even after being offered a ton of money. The poster’s suspicion is that the fire was set to finally get him out and I’m glad he wasn’t in there.

I was just telling my wife that would be a great place to invest in buildings. however, that requires money, i remember watching the East Village turn into a quzi wealthy neighbourhood because some people had cash enough to get it on the cheap. That’s not an unattractive building. I like the green decorative friezes above the street-facing windows and the brickwork is clearly sound for a building this old. I’m sure it was nice in its early days with its impressive cornice as well.

If you don't know East Harlem like the everybody who live in this section of the city then take it from me the fire did not start by itself.

Pronunciation of cornice
Well based on the video it appears the building is sealed off like it was going to be demolished. The "for sale" sign says "land for sale" not building. Lots of times back in the day lots of abandon building in the south Bronx were burned to collect insurance. May be the owner figure burn it collect the dough and demolish it afterwards. Right now there's no land for sale, but a building so the owner got a little ahead of his time.
