Yes, it is enough to make a grown man cry. I always say that Bobby Hatfield could win American Idol, America's Got Talent, The Voice, or any of those talent shows in his sleep, with ease and without even breaking a sweat. No studio tricks, no auto-tune. It wasn't even invented yet. This performance is up there as one of the greatest in the history of recorded popular music, IMHO. Thanks everybody, and goodnight!

I was 23 y.o. when Bobby sang this on the Andy Williams Show, live. Women all over instantly fell in love with him. He still thrills my sox off and I am 80 now. BTW, this song was written in 1955 for a little known film about a man who is incarcerated and pining for him wife. Bobby turned it into a love song for all women. This song has been covered more than 1500 times by more than 600 artists and his version is the best! ♥️♥️♥️ p.s. loved your reactions. Bobby deserves them.
B0bby, a rare counter-tenor, did NOT sing in falsetto. Baritone to G5 and higher, he could hit notes that a lot of Sopranos could not reach. Watch his facial expressions and relaxed body movements. Free of strain and tension, only that voice and his love of singing. Bobby was a treasure. And there is so much more incredible music from Bobby and Bill. Bobby always poured all his love and emotion into every performance. Besides his incredible voice, that's what made him the greatest singer ever.

This song reminded me of the time my husband was stationed in Germany and I couldn't be with him for eight months. This was our song. Originally, this song was from a movie in the 1950s--it was about a man about to get out of prison and hoping the girl he loved would be there for him when he got home. It also fits perfectly with soldiers far away from home. The is THE BEST version of this song EVER!

100% correct. There is no falsetto in this song. Bobby Hatfield was a pure countertenor and people who know musicians know this. He sang this song like nobody could sing it. It’s his song he owns it and it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch him sing it. Bobby Hatfield was a phenomenal musician and we lost him too soon.
THAT'S why it's requested so much! Not original but Bobby Hatfield OWNS this song! He is now in that great rock band in the sky, but I hope that he is aware of the goosebumps that he is giving people to this day, a whole new generation. That voice will live forever. Bobby had an incredible God given voice, hundreds of singers have tried to sing/cover this song, no one has ever come close. Bobby set the bar all the way to the heavens! No one can do it, this song is his alone forever! 🥰🥰🥰
My late wife and my late best friend shared a birthday and we had the joy of seeing the Righteous Brothers in one of their last performances before Bobby Hatfields untimely death. I had seen them several times but my wife and Bobby had not. They were completely blown away by their performance as was I. I learned High and low octaves trying to sing along to my car radio. We were so lucky to grow up with great music and songs that enhanced the music. Drums can't trace a melody or emotion.

This song has been recorded by many artists but none have done it better than Bobby Hatfield. No auto tunes. Just God given talent. He was 25 when he did this live performance. His mother was in the audience. That was the size of the microphone in 1965. Your will notice everyone is listening politely. That's the way it was done at this point in time.....and then Elvis and The Beatles happened. They each did solos during performances. This is Bobby's. In one word... INCREDIBLE!!! I remember shows back in the early 70's and those are the microphones I remember... technology doesn't make everything smaller I guess? LOL
Well, a lot of microphones are much smaller, but the hand held seemed to get bigger. The sound quality is different to me... I like the old sounds.

Imagine being one of the lucky few to react to this live performance in the moment. One of the greatest performance’s of all time.
People always comment on the small microphones from this era. Remember that it's connected to a cord. It doesn't have to house a signal transmitter. It's also pure analogue, no digital processing. Which makes a live performance sounding this fantastic even more amazing.
Bobby's perfect countertenor makes guys mouths drop open and women swoon. Elvis' cover of this was great but this will always be Bobby's song.
We had an overload of fantastic live performances in the 60's-90's. The 50's too but I wasn't around until the 60's. 😁

That was Bobby Hatfield performing on the Andy Williams TV show. His partner, Bill Medley, was there and Andy interviewed them before Bobby took the mike. His mother was in the audience. A friend later said he thought Bobby bit his lip in that smile after the last note because he knew he had just killed it. So cool. Thanks for the video.

This one is Bobby Hatfield's solo triumph; you now need to watch his duet with the other Righteous Brother, Bill Medley, called "You've Lost That Loving Feeling." Bobby's falsetto and Bill's baritone are pure magic together, especially near the song's end. Also, watch for Bill's sad little lip bite during one of his solo lines. This is one of my favorite songs by the Righteous Brothers. It's always wonderful to have someone from a younger generation react to iconic songs and singers.

I grew up with this classic being played regularly in my house (my Mom was a huge RB fan). This live version is the absolute best version, Bobby owned it.
This is my father's favorite song. He would slow dance around the house all the time with my sister and I. Even now if it starts to play while he is listening to music he looks for someone to dance with cane and all.
Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley were the Righteous Brothers and this was Bobby's solo masterpiece. Live, no auto tune or computers - just Bobby and that gorgeous voice. Their voices, when they sang together, were stunning. Listen to "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" to hear them at their best.
This song was special to the Viet Nam era, which was when Bobby sang it and it had deep meaning for those separated by war. It was also perfect slow dance ‘belly rubbing’ music. The Righteous Brothers were a unique duo… their voices were so opposite yet so powerful they blended into unbelievable harmony. They both could (and did) outstanding solo performances. Bill Medley is a bass-baritone and still performing today at age 81. Bobby was a first tenor with counter tenor range (which he showed off here) but unfortunately passed away in 2003, just months after the Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. And yes, they started out as rockers and R&B singers - which is where they got their name. They had 22 songs on the Billboard top 100 but their most famous is ‘You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling’ which is the most played song of the 20th Century (and into the 21st - it wasn’t surpassed until 2011) and is also in the Library of Congress as a significant influence on pop music. I hope you delve more into their music… I think you’ll find that the ‘brothers’ have a huge fan base.😊

Great Blue eyed soul. The mike was so small because that's the way it was in the 60's, mikes, wires, raw talent, no auto tune just real singing, best ever!
Of course, Bobby's voice is incomparable but so many people mention his voice that I want to comment on something a little bit different. In 1965, color television had just been introduced and many shows were still in black and white so those that were in color really went to outrageous lengths to have performers wear eye-catching colors, thus, the reason for Bobby's pink suit! Also, makeup artists were brand new to making people up to be viewed on screen, as evidenced by Bobby's orange skin tone. If you check out, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" where both Bobby and Bill are singing, that performance is actually recorded in black and white. That's how new color TV was. Disney's Wonderful World of Color (the name sort of gives it away) was one of the first shows to be broadcast in color and was one reason for its enormous appeal and is why the fact that it was in color was even included in its name. I am an old lady, older than dirt actually, and I can very well remember when we first started seeing TV shows in color. How's that for old? BTW, great reaction. I loved the huge grin on your face when Bobby started singing. And yes, it was live. No autotune, no tweaking back at the studio, no spicing and dicing by sound technicians, was needed. All that was necessary was just Bobby Hatfield's incredible voice. Thank you for mentioning that it's live.

Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. (Made Up Of Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley) Their style of music was known as blue eyed soul. Sadly we lost Bobby about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Home Free just did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown also did a very beautiful tribute of this song about a year ago.

Although there are many great singers in the past, one of the greatest female vocalists of all time (#94 of the 100 Greatest singers by Rolling Stone) that many people still worship to this day is Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters from the 1970s. Paul McCartney said she was "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive" I recommend that you watch her live performance of "Close to You" (she also played the drums) as a starter. You won't regret it.

Each one of the pair of "brothers" had one solo song each per album. This one by Bobby Hatfield became one of their biggest hits. The original version was from a 1955 movie called Unchained, and popularity of the song was boosted by being the song playing behind the romantic pottery turning scene in the movie Ghost.

Bobby had that effect on all of us. Especially women. We could not help but love him. I call this "Bobby's Song." Amazing, eh? There are so many of their songs that are simply great. Bobby was a counter-Tenor, a natural high-register. No falsetto here. Bill is a great Baritone. Together or solo, they were amazing. Bobby passed away in 2003, age 63, 8 months after they were inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame. A kind, wonderful, sweet man. Beloved by all who knew him, and his millions of fans. He adored his wife and 4 kids. Bill still performing at age 82 next month. I'm so glad that Bobby didn't sign with the L.A.Dodgers!!! Bills daughter is an amazing singer.
I can't tell you how much I envy you for the experience of hearing this rendition for the first time. There's a clip somewhere on YT of the Brothers chatting to Andy Williams either after this or before, not sure, Bobby busts a few moves and Bill actually cracks his face for once! Also don't you think Andy's orchestra did a bang-up job of the accompaniment, also played live and with hardly any rehearsal. And thanks for showing Bobby the love, this is his song, forever!! I'm back to watch you again! You are the single most enthusiastic reactor I've seen since I discovered reaction vids. So cute to see you sitting there in your woolly beanie, like an entranced elf listening to the human Siren that is Bobby Hatfield. If I had to choose one singer to listen to forever, it would be Bobby, with a possible back up in Brian Connolly , frontman of Sweet. Bobby had so much range and coverage, one never tires of listening.
Most people know the song from Ghost and other movies but to see Bobby sing it is a whole different experience.

Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher countertenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells it, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song.
*In Nov. 2003 Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63.
The Righteous Brothers version was a huge hit, but it was recorded with far more modest expectations. Phil Spector considered it album filler and released it as a B-side. The single had "Unchained Melody," with no producer credit on the label, as the flip to Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hung on You," but many DJs preferred "Unchained Melody" and played that one instead. This infuriated Spector, who subsequently left no doubt (actually calling DJs telling them to play “Hung On You” not “Unchained Melody “)as to which side of a Philles single was the A-side.
* The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In an interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and before he left he said, 'No, I can do it better. ’And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song."
* This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. Spector, known for his "Wall Of Sound" technique, did not produce this - Bill Medley did. In a 2007 statement to the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Medley said: "You have to remember that I was producing our stuff before Phil Spector... I mean I produced 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'My Babe' and all that stuff. Then when we went with Phil, Phil asked me if I would produce the albums because it was too time consuming for him to produce the entire albums. So he was going to do the singles and I would do the album. And so that's how that happened and that's how I produced 'Unchained Melody,' which Phil Spector apparently now takes credit for. He can have the credit. And I'm not a producer. I know how to produce. But it's obviously not a Spector production. 'Unchained Melody' was never intended to be the single... it was produced to be on the album. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof."

This song had a big resurgence in the 90's when used in the now "famous" pottery scene in "Ghost" with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

This is my favorite song. No one sings it like Bobby Hatfield. Many have covered it, but Bobby owns it, and always will. One songs by the Righteous Brothers you should check out is " Soul and Inspiration". Both Bobby and Bill (Medley) sing this. Their voices complimented each other so beautifully. You mentioned Elvis (my favorite singer) and "Can't Help Falling In Love". It's one of my favorite Elvis songs. Knowing that you are also a Pentatonix fan, you should also check out their version. It's really is beautiful, and I have no doubt that Elvis would have thought so too. Really enjoy your reaction.

Great Reaction! It is undoubtedly the BEST performance of one of the BEST songs EVER!. You wondered about the size of the microphone. You have to think about the modern history of technology. The 1950's brought us so many advances in technology. But everything was big and bulky (Think about the big TV sets and radios, the reel to reel tape recorders,the computers that filled whole rooms!) The 1960's were all about making big technology smaller! That's when transistor radios and cassette tape recorders could be carried around. It continued until the 1980's when the oversized Boom Boxes became the big thing! Anyway, I really enjoy watching your video reactions and I look forward to seeing more.

I used to work as waitstaff for wedding receptions and this song was played at nearly every single one. Amazingly, it hasn't gotten old with repetition like all the other "wedding standard" songs!

I subscribed because you seem genuine & your reaction was on point. This was live on the Andy Williams TV show after both of the Righteous Brothers & Andy William sang & chatted together. There's an extended video on RUclips of this. Both Bobby Hatfield (counter tenor) & Bill Medley (baratone) would sing solos as well as combining their ingredible voices. This song was Bobby's solo. No cover compares to how he sang it. There was a larger mic set out for Bobby to use singing his song Unchained Melody but he grabbed the closer small mic...he didn't need anything else cause his amazing voice does it all. His mom was sitting in the audience hearing him sing professionally in person for the 1st time so his anxiety was on edge but you can't tell by the ease of him singing. Pure talent. You have to check out their many songs..you won't be disappointed. "You Lost That Loving Feeling" & "Soul and Inspiration" videos are a must for starters. Check out their solos "Ebb Tide", "Somewhere", "I Believe", "Brown Eyed Woman", "I Wanna Make Love To You" and together on the Ed Sullivan show they do a moving version of "You'll Never Walk Alone". The reason that the mic is small is because it was at this time that electronics were undergoing a revolution because of the development of the transistor and integrated circuits. Before this period, electronics were bulky and mainly based on vacuum tubes, which although having a very warm tone/presence also require great amounts of power and were bulky. Once the transistor and integrated circuitry was introduced it became all the rage, people were amazed that you could get a radio for example that would fit in one hand that could produce the sound that previously would be the size off a bread box. This performance of the Righteous Brothers was done on the Andy Williams show and one of the things that was special about his show was that not only did he bring on such fantastic talent, Andy himself is an incredible singer, but also because Andy also only had the best of everything on his show, even down to the electronics used, just look at the visual quality of this recording even though this was from 1965, Andy insisted on the best and since miniaturization of electronics was was not only all the rage at the time, it also implied style and cutting edge and as you can hear from this performance the audio those mics captured was also fantastic.

The Andy Williams Show being so professional and prestigious was why there was the orchestra which Bobby Hatfield worked with to prepare for this, why the audience was quiet which created the pristine environment, maybe why his parents were there for the first time at this professional performance, and which all contributed to this serendipitous classic iconic performance of all time.

One of my favorite Elvis songs is "Don't". I bought the 45 back in 1958 and never tired of it. A song made perfectly for you is "Roses For Mama" by C.W.McCall.
Great reaction as always! His voice is beautiful, and he sings so effortlessly. I think the first time I heard this was when my Mum introduced me to the film Ghost as a child (she's a massive Patrick Swayze fan). The Righteous Brothers, as others have stated, are a duo that did duets but also some solo songs as well. The other member of the duo Bill Medley sang a duet called (I've Had) The Time of My Life with a singer called Jennifer Warnes. It's a favourite of mine, and again I first heard it when my Mum convinced me to watch one of her favourite films Dirty Dancing with her (once again another Swayze film). Another of my other favourite songs by The Righteous Brothers are You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' (which my Mum has on a LP as a compilation album). Also Something's Gotta Hold On Me is pretty good, but I do prefer the original for it by Etta James (very powerful singer!) more.
Depending on your age, a version of this song you might recognise is by Robson & Jerome (pop duo comprised of the British actors Robson Green and Jerome Flynn). In 1995 their version was at Number 1 on our charts for seven consecutive weeks. Though they first sang it in the TV show they both starred in called Soldier Soldier.

Andy interviewed them before the song, and they Bobby simply took Andys mic. They had a performance mic for him, but Bobby didnt notice the stagehand offering it to him,
