I’d like to answer a concern you had about the production of this film. Although the original plan was to have this film premiere on Hulu, the decision to change that to a theatrical release was made before principal filming started. Therefore it was filmed for the big, big screen.😊
Yes you can really tell! I was more concerned about the story and you can really tell why it would have been small screen because it’s a homage, not entirely its own thing

Just saw this film tonight at a HOYTS cinema in D-BOX seats which I’ve never experienced before and it was such a fun and engaging time! Visually blew me away!
They learned from Prey that they should do a big screen premiere. It's just because the last few films in this genre, like the predator films didn't do so well, so they scaled down expectations, now after Prey, scaled up expectations.

Just watched it this afternoon, and I have to say I am happy with the movie. I was afraid of being disappointed, and thank God I was not. My suggestion for all of you who want to watch it is please watch Alien 1 and 2 for the familiarity of some characters and context. Kudos to the Sound Director for making this movie perfect.
I was 11 years old when I first watched all of the "Alien" movies on DVD, and it totally blew my mind and left me terrifed ever since. Yes, I also had a soft spot on "Prometheus" as an 11-year-old, and still is today. For me, "Alien: Romulus" is indeed the best film of the franchise since the first two "Alien" movies. I think it's safe to say that we finally have a new "Alien" movie that is excellent, thanks to Fede Álvarez, Ridley Scott and co.👽💯

I saw an advance screening a few hours ago and also gave it a 7/10. Visually fascinating, thrilling, and with great connections across the series. However, certain aspects and acting choices did bring it down a few notches. All that said, I'm still going to give this a second viewing.
saw 2 movies in IMAX because we don't have it in my city but once a year i go to this other city in the country for a bike fest,went in July and saw the new Quiet Place Day One there,first one i saw IMAX was a few years ago one of the Jurassic World films 😂
Movie was flippin' awesome!! I love Cailee's character, Rain! she reminds me so much of Ripley, I even ended up having a little crush on her and the actress Cailee🥰

I'm was really worried about this movie. I want so much for it to be good, but the trailer I watched really worries me. It looked like it had become a YA Alien movie. I'm sure Cailee Spaeny is marvelous as usual nonetheless. So glad to hear you liked it.
It very much is aimed at young adults. I went to see it on the ground that the ending was supposed to be amazing. It was visually stunning all the way through but I wasn't impressed with the end result.
Saw this film this afternoon, and I LOVED IT! Definitely recommend seeing this one in a theatre. Beautiful and fascinating to watch, the sets were amazing. And you were absolutely correct, the score is definitely gorgeous. I can’t imagine that they intended to release this to VOD. I’m already planning to watch a second time. The nods to the franchise were extremely satisfying 😉

It's kinda insane that i just thought earlier today how cool it would be if this movie did a certain thing and THEN THEY ACTUALLY DID IT IN THE FINAL ACT.
Slight spoiler: Rook was not an AI performance, it was an animatronic like Bishop in Alien 3. The voice was done by a sound alike and the face was a cgi mask but the actor's family where okay with it and signed of on it.
So pleased you enjoyed it. Often it feels that the Alien films I just jumping on the old cliche of the original and being nothing but filler. On saying that I have loved them all in their own way. Am now looking forward to seeing this as I was reluctant before. I am old enough to remember travelling to see the original Alien opening at Leicester Square in the days when films were events. Great to see the scary films that may not be original but well done.

Im an adult who saw Alien in theaters with my dad at age 12. At the time, even the tv commercial gave me low-grade nightmares.😅 Leading up to the movie there was a lot of energy and nervous excitement in the air. Then, Alien blew the minds of all who watched. Now, with Romulus, I can say that I am getting that same feeling again, for the first time in all these years. Interesting... "... you have my sympathies." 🙂

I really appreciate this take. I saw a ton of negativity where they mentioned some of the same issues you did, and I noticed as well. I love the energy of that fresh from the theater energy, because of that ENDING!! I'm a huge fan of the franchise, and I felt like the energy of this one nailed it. I especially loved the worldbuilding of the first 40 or so minutes.
I saw it this morning and agree with everything said here. I always enjoy getting more of a glimpse into the world/society/future that these characters live in.
I saw it today! I find myself agreeing with a lot of your review. A couple of the scenes in this movie were something I've never seen before, its great to feel surprised!
I should mention, while Alien is my favorite movie franchise of all time-I'm much more of a fan of the original 1979 movie than Cameron's sequel. Don't get me wrong, Aliens is a great action film. One of the best. I re-watch it and I always enjoy it. But to me, there's magic in that first movie. The suspense works better, the set design and music is beautiful. I'll say this-Alien is a perfect movie, Aliens is a great movie. Anyway-don't go in expecting explosions and gore-it's a quiet, suspenseful film full of dark corridors and a bleak vibe. It honors the original "Alien" while doing something extremely disturbing, disgusting and original in its final act-this movie goes to a VERY dark place that will prove to be too much for some. Honestly, it's truly what I've wanted out of Alien movie for a while. I am rating this as an Alien fan, this isn't an Oscar winning movie. It doesn't transcend the genre. This is a movie made by an Alien fan, for Alien fans.
Just saw it in the cinema yesterday and had the same "hell yes, thats a Fede Alvarez movie" moment towards the end. It has the same drive as Evil Dead to me: It takes a while until it starts but when it does, it does not stop and goes beyond what you are expecting. The ending was so damn great that it totally pays off for that predictable middle section :D

I think after the movie Prey and how many people wanted to see it in theaters, that Disney/Fox decided to change their minds and made it a theatrical movie instead of direct to streaming. Which was good because it was amazing to watch on the big screen.

I wasn’t always keen on the quotes or the imitations of well-known shots from the previous films just because a lot of films do the same thing nowadays, but really enjoyed this one! I was a fan of the ending for sure

Saw the film and really liked it. It's a solid sequel and being a fan of the Alien franchise, it was fun to watch and plenty scary. Some of the plot twists I really liked, while others seemed to be less inspired. Overall, I gave it a score of 8/10, which is the same score I gave Prometheus.
Hey Em, I completely concur with your review as I saw it last weekend with some friends. We all liked it apart from one (he's hard to please anyway!) and I think you and I once again fall squarely into the camp of people who really dug it (particularly the third act). Because the amount of reviews I've seen from people who are anything BUT fans of the last part of this movie? Well........ 😆🤣😉 I liked the fact that it CLEARLY has nods to all of the previous films and that it takes elements from the ones I didn't like (and that sucked balls ) and recreates them here without it blowing dead goats in hell! ....and I still say 'The Exorcist: Believer' and 'The Watchers' are severely underrated! Come at us, haters!! 😆🤘🤘

Hopefully, this will do for the Alien franchise what Prey did for Predator - renew interest. It's been so long since something felt fresh in either of these franchises, but I've been eager to see this for a while. Fede is a great director to give us that glimmer of hope... Great review, kid!
I just got out of seeing it and it blew me away. Then ending was incredible and they linked it in brilliantly with the original films. I also agree with you about it feeling a bit easy for some of the film. I can't believe it was going to be VOD originally, it would have been a huge waste like what happened with Prey; that would have been a great movie on the big screen.

I was interested to see and hear your thoughts on this film given that I regard your opinion highly. Certainly your comments are consistent with some other reviews across YT, yet your style, enthusiasm, articulate manner and depth of knowledge add significantly to the credibility of what you are saying about this film. I'm seeing it (15-8-24) at the 4DX Event Cinema complex in George St this evening. From my perspective it will be very interesting to see how the overall cinema and big screen experience is even further enhanced by the movement of the seats, the spraying of water vapour, movement of air from fans and other lighting/strobe type elements that the 4DX experience adds to it all. Thanks for the update.
I thought the movie was solid, especially with zero gravity scenes (deadspace). The xenomorphs were amazing. However, the last hybrid alien humanoid creature just nah, I think they could have made a better-looking xenomorph creature.yhe thing looked like it suffered from scoliosis. WTH!?
I enjoyed the film and some things were done really well however, very quickly if felt like 'lets see how many memorable scenes from the previous films we can rework and throw into a single movie' and while some of it worked and looked great, the delivery of some of the most iconic quotes/references just didn't land, and the uncanny valley with Rook really made me wish they'd used mu-th-ur for exposition instead. It's a decent entry that was so close to being great but got too wrapped up in fan service to bring anything new to the table, it did give me hope in the future of the franchise though.
Your franchise ranking is one of my favorite videos of yours and I'm curious about where you would put Romulus on that list. Also, not to be that guy but it's worth noting that this film brought back the effects crew from Aliens, not the original Alien.
I am currently chaperoning a field trip with students. I am now considering sneaking out on the group while they go see the new Deadpool Wolverine movie and watching this instead. 😈

I really appreciate this take. I saw a ton of negativity where they mentioned some of the same issues you did, and I noticed as well. I love the energy of that fresh from the theater energy, because of that ENDING!! I'm a huge fan of the franchise, and I felt like the energy of this one nailed it. I especially loved the worldbuilding of the first 40 or so minutes.
I saw it this morning and agree with everything said here. I always enjoy getting more of a glimpse into the world/society/future that these characters live in.

A couple of the scenes in this movie were something I've never seen before, its great to feel surprised!
I should mention, while Alien is my favorite movie franchise of all time-I'm much more of a fan of the original 1979 movie than Cameron's sequel. Don't get me wrong, Aliens is a great action film. One of the best. I re-watch it and I always enjoy it. But to me, there's magic in that first movie. The suspense works better, the set design and music is beautiful. I'll say this-Alien is a perfect movie, Aliens is a great movie. Anyway-don't go in expecting explosions and gore-it's a quiet, suspenseful film full of dark corridors and a bleak vibe. It honors the original "Alien" while doing something extremely disturbing, disgusting and original in its final act-this movie goes to a VERY dark place that will prove to be too much for some. Honestly, it's truly what I've wanted out of Alien movie for a while. I am rating this as an Alien fan, this isn't an Oscar winning movie. It doesn't transcend the genre. This is a movie made by an Alien fan, for Alien fans.
Seeing it tomorrow! I rewatched the first three a few months ago already, but I might just watch the original again tonight to set the mood!
Just saw it in the cinema yesterday and had the same "hell yes, thats a Fede Alvarez movie" moment towards the end. It has the same drive as Evil Dead to me: It takes a while until it starts but when it does, it does not stop and goes beyond what you are expecting. The ending was so damn great that it totally pays off for that predictable middle section :D

Aliens 2 with sagorni was so action pact that I had to take breaks..the constant " oh shit what's gunna to happen next" literally just continues to keep you hooked.

I'm surprised by your review. I just got back from watching the movie, and it's just bad. They tried to take good elements from each part, but it didn't work. It's cheap nostalgia. I know that opinions are subjective, but this is the first time I'm so shocked that you rated this film positively.

finally, someone I can relate to. I'm shocked at all the positive reviews. As an ALIEN fan I couldn't wait to see this. This movie was so underwhelming. The characters are all boring and uninteresting. I got a feeling of disappointment I hadn't felt since.... starwars the last jedi.

I think after the movie Prey and how many people wanted to see it in theaters, that Disney/Fox decided to change their minds and made it a theatrical movie instead of direct to streaming. Which was good because it was amazing to watch on the big screen.
Another great review from Emma! I’m so glad that you mentioned that this film actually comes between Alien and Aliens, somehow I had missed that. I am also a huge fan of the Alien franchise and am planning on seeing this on the first day of release. Very excited for this film!

I wasn’t always keen on the quotes or the imitations of well-known shots from the previous films just because a lot of films do the same thing nowadays, but really enjoyed this one! I was a fan of the ending for sure
I saw in cinema and omg I loved it,it was scary enough (maybe more than usual Alien movies.) It was fun! and the last 30+ min uh..uh I was SCARED :D

Saw the film and really liked it. It's a solid sequel and being a fan of the Alien franchise, it was fun to watch and plenty scary. Some of the plot twists I really liked, while others seemed to be less inspired. Overall, I gave it a score of 8/10, which is the same score I gave Prometheus.

Hey Em, I completely concur with your review as I saw it last weekend with some friends. We all liked it apart from one (he's hard to please anyway!) and I think you and I once again fall squarely into the camp of people who really dug it (particularly the third act). Because the amount of reviews I've seen from people who are anything BUT fans of the last part of this movie? Well........ 😆🤣😉 I liked the fact that it CLEARLY has nods to all of the previous films and that it takes elements from the ones I didn't like (and that sucked balls ) and recreates them here without it blowing dead goats in hell!
....and I still say 'The Exorcist: Believer' and 'The Watchers' are severely underrated! Come at us, haters!! 😆🤘🤘

I liked this movie, some new cool ideas. Nightmarish stuff at the end but I like how they bring in new ideas to the Alien universe. Sound was amazing in a cinema. Film was good, looked great
Hopefully, this will do for the Alien franchise what Prey did for Predator - renew interest. It's been so long since something felt fresh in either of these franchises, but I've been eager to see this for a while. Fede is a great director to give us that glimmer of hope... Great review, kid!

I just got out of seeing it and it blew me away. Then ending was incredible and they linked it in brilliantly with the original films. I also agree with you about it feeling a bit easy for some of the film. I can't believe it was going to be VOD originally, it would have been a huge waste like what happened with Prey; that would have been a great movie on the big screen.
I saw an advanced screening last night! The end was nuts. And yes I agree, there's nothing OMG about this movie, but there's also nothing appallingly bad, so it's just what you expect from an Alien movie. So, I had fun.

I was interested to see and hear your thoughts on this film given that I regard your opinion highly. Certainly your comments are consistent with some other reviews across YT, yet your style, enthusiasm, articulate manner and depth of knowledge add significantly to the credibility of what you are saying about this film. I'm seeing it (15-8-24) at the 4DX Event Cinema complex in George St this evening. From my perspective it will be very interesting to see how the overall cinema and big screen experience is even further enhanced by the movement of the seats, the spraying of water vapour, movement of air from fans and other lighting/strobe type elements that the 4DX experience adds to it all. Thanks for the update.
I thought the movie was solid, especially with zero gravity scenes (deadspace). The xenomorphs were amazing. However, the last hybrid alien humanoid creature just nah, I think they could have made a better-looking xenomorph creature.yhe thing looked like it suffered from scoliosis. WTH!?
I enjoyed the film and some things were done really well however, very quickly if felt like 'lets see how many memorable scenes from the previous films we can rework and throw into a single movie' and while some of it worked and looked great, the delivery of some of the most iconic quotes/references just didn't land, and the uncanny valley with Rook really made me wish they'd used mu-th-ur for exposition instead. It's a decent entry that was so close to being great but got too wrapped up in fan service to bring anything new to the table, it did give me hope in the future of the franchise though.
Your franchise ranking is one of my favorite videos of yours and I'm curious about where you would put Romulus on that list. Also, not to be that guy but it's worth noting that this film brought back the effects crew from Aliens, not the original Alien.
I am currently chaperoning a field trip with students. I am now considering sneaking out on the group while they go see the new Deadpool Wolverine movie and watching this instead. 😈
Lots of negative comments sadly on this video… ok to have differing opinions and be respectful. As movie lovers, isn’t it great that this movie is getting people into the theater that we love? Yes, not everyone is going to like it, but man, how cool was it to see this in a packed theater. I think it’s clear the Alien franchise is not dead and that is something to be excited about!
