Paul always teases the fine line of losing control... but never loses control. Just absolutely fucks with it. To all young guys out there, Mr. Gilbert showed great restraint and control to serve the song, not his ego. That's mastery...
Paul Gilbert walks the line of too much and calls you a fool for thinking you can hang there. Miller might eclipse him in pure playing ability, but Gilbert walks all over him with style and panache.
@@joelsmith552 nah, even in terms of pure playing ability, martin is still behind paul imo. Martin got his flashy alternate picking lines, but we all know who's the boss when it comes to alt picking.
The thing about what Gilbert is doing nowadays - it's unexpected. He doesnt really do the standard licks even if what he's doing actually sounds less impressive/pleasing to the untrained ear. It makes sense considering hes probably played within the confines for thousands upon thousands of hours, as where those still coming up still have a fresh outlook on their lead playing.
Paul Gilbert is an absolute legend. He's evolved from arguably the greatest 80s alternate-picking-shredmaster to one of the best bluesy-fusion players today. @@tee8599 not nearly as good. While I love watching these guys rip it, the lead guitar player has a propensity to sing, even when others sound far and away better. Just watch the Queen medley. Apparently he can't play anything that isn't blues rock. He even turns classic funk songs into just his usual technical yet repetitive blues rock noodling using even the same old high gain distortion that he uses for everything.
I love Gilberts riff all grungy around 4:40. Paul is becoming one of the best guitarists in the world. A worked class play. Credit to the drummer. GREAT VIDEO.
