    Paul always teases the fine line of losing control... but never loses control. Just absolutely fucks with it. To all young guys out there, Mr. Gilbert showed great restraint and control to serve the song, not his ego. That's mastery...

      Paul Gilbert walks the line of too much and calls you a fool for thinking you can hang there. Miller might eclipse him in pure playing ability, but Gilbert walks all over him with style and panache.

      The thing about what Gilbert is doing nowadays - it's unexpected. He doesnt really do the standard licks even if what he's doing actually sounds less impressive/pleasing to the untrained ear. It makes sense considering hes probably played within the confines for thousands upon thousands of hours, as where those still coming up still have a fresh outlook on their lead playing.

    Paul Gilbert is an absolute legend. He's evolved from arguably the greatest 80s alternate-picking-shredmaster to one of the best bluesy-fusion players today. One thing has stayed the same though: he's the nicest, down-to-Earth dude. And him jamming with Martin- what a time to be alive that we can witness so much talent in one room!

      Both of them sound autotuned. Have that ubersmooth slightly artificial quality to it..At the very least a lot of compression.

      @@tee8599 not nearly as good. While I love watching these guys rip it, the lead guitar player has a propensity to sing, even when others sound far and away better. Just watch the Queen medley. He had no business singing any of the songs, when they had THE perfect voice in the group to sing those songs.

    paul had one of the juciest and freshest blues phrases in this solo. Love how martin explored multiple genre cliches and chord progressions through his soloing.

      Apparently he can't play anything that isn't blues rock. He even turns classic funk songs into just his usual technical yet repetitive blues rock noodling using even the same old high gain distortion that he uses for everything.

    This must have been an incredible experience playing and recording with THE Paul Gilbert.

    When i was young, my cousin and his band made it. Signed the deal, moved to LA and then preceded to implode . The memory of those hot and humid nights before the then, in the basement as they rocked on because they loved to play. That the feel i get from your music. you are playing it the way it feels to be played at that moment.

    I often feel (and tell all my friends) that my favourite PG playing were the late 80s early 90s Mr Big period. Complete craziness and billion notes all over the place, etc.... then things like this happen and I completely question my judgement.
    Insanely amazing video. Props to all involved. 9 mins literally just flew by too quickly.

      I honestly never cared much for PG, while admiring his technical ability, until the past 10 years or so. His decision to somehow de-shred and start to look for the melody everywhere - connect to the singing and song. That's where I started to relate. He is indeed a great personality.

    Paulo Gilberto was a big inspiration for me in his early Racer X days. I was also fortunate to see Mr Big live twice. Love the energy/joy and how he evolved from a purely technical player to one that seeks emotion. Sweet recording.

    That's why PAUL GILBERT is the GOAT for me. He's done in his shredding days. He is improving and evolving. I love his style right now of being groovey and melodic. But sometimes I miss him watching shredding.
