I almost ordered a 300 dollar turtle tub but then my dad found a tub that was almost the same for 15 bucks! So we saved a ton.

You rock! My son now has 5 turtles and is in the process of building his own 1,000 gallon Koi pond! So fun! He has all of his friends helping him build it. It's going to be awesome!

@@rafaelmontalvo870 not much. The liner we got from Amazon was a couple of hundred and the pump/filter cost around $200. That said, the rocks to decorate are not cheap.
@@slcutcher awesome! how have the pump and liner held up? going to do around the same size pond this summer with my brother and dad and i’m already trying to plan out costs and what not.
@@rafaelmontalvo870 so far so good? The liner seems good. No leaks yet? and the pump seems good, but we did get some algae. a real pond guy told us to get a different stronger filter/pump. I will ask my husband which one he bought.
The one thing that I hardly ever see in an inexpensive pond is an overflow pipe. If you put a pipe straight up in the pond that allows the water to overflow at the ponds water height, then the pond/water will stay self regulated with out chlorine or additives. We had an old concrete pond in our backyard that the water overflowed through the pipe and came out in a lower section of the yard. The rain did all the work. We never messed with the pond water. We added some Gold Fish which reproduced and frogs came and other stuff. Occasionally, we would rake the leaves off the bottom. The Dead Sea is dead because it has no outlet for the water going into it. Sometimes my dad would put the hose in the pond and let the water run for a few minutes to let the water overflow. Water back in the 1970s was cheap. Just a thought.

Definitely using this video for my turtles pond, this is awesome
I spent a total of $380 to build my 10' wide by 31" deep "cool pool". I'm on a budget as well. I dug the entire thing myself, down into clay, until I hit rock. My pool has several different shelf layers. It took me 9 weeks to dig the hole. I then lined the earth with a bunch of old used carpet I had on hand and I already had a boxed blue pool liner, my mother had bought a number of years ago and never used it. It was a liner for a 12' above ground pool. I bought the pump at around $189, 1" water pipe (100') to run 50' to the beginning of a creek. I also bought various pvc pipe pieces to run under the water level and down the shelves to my submersible pump. I recently just spent $95 on brick and concrete to line the pool. My pool is large enough for people to get in it. The deepest area is only about 5 x 7, but the surface area is a 10' circle, so I can actually float as well. I named it the "Cool Pool".
Great DIY Video for normal people like us. Not like some those Bulishit DIY which only professionals can do. I built mine before watching your video but I still like it. I just dug the pond. Took me 4-5 days as I am doing the entire front yard garden at the same time myself. I used some chicken fence and used metal wire as spike. Now I will pour concrete and will be done.

Amazing vid, I'm actually building a recreation/turtle and fish pond in front of my porch. It is going to be expensive from what I can tell but it is worth it cause for five years I can enjoy it before I head out to college which then my mom, dad and brothers can use it. Very excited

Had a pond once. My dog ate my fish and started filling it in with dirt. I kept my plants wet, so they are still alive, but I gave up on my pond. Looks great. Good work.

Where can I learn more about making the intake bay and learning about the size pump I might need for my pond? I would imagine it might depend on the size of the pond. This video was wonderful and it is the one I keep coming back to. I am now seriously considering taking on this project. Thank you.
