Red earred sliders are actually aquatic turtles which means they need lots of water to swim around in. They actually need 10 gallons of water per inch of shell. So if their shell is 4 inches long, they need 40 gallons of water. I think if you bought a 40-60 gallon tub and then buried it, I think it would give the same effect, just proper space for the turtle.
We have 3 but got them when I was like 8 so I had no idea they would need that much space and now they live in a waay too small tank... idk what to do but I think they're just depressed if that's possible
@@isabellahu4606 Depending on where you live and how much money you have to spare, I think the best option would be to buy a big 150 gallon bucket that is used for feeding livestock and then out it in your backyard or somewhere where the sun will hit it. The one I found was only $150 which isn't bad. Obviously if it's really cold where you live you can't do this but I think it's better than spending $500+ on a 150 gallon tank. I don't know how big your turtles are but 150 gallons is probably an improvement of what you have now. Extra costs would be a decent filter and a water heater. And maybe a uvb/heat lamp if it's cold or the sun won't hit it all day. Also you will need a basking dock but you probably already have that. You could even bury it and make it look like a little pond and put a little fence around it so they can walk on the ground but not get out.
The total cost is probably around $230 ish which is still cheaper than a tank. I got the link for the bucket that is $150

@@emcreemers9180 yes if it has to come to that then thats probably the best option. It's hard to let go of pets that you love though.
@@isabellahu4606 cheap quick fix. Buy a large cheap tote. Place large rock to sun on. Bam,turtle large home for less than ten bucks. I don't recommend a used tote. U never no its contents. In warm months move tote outdoors.

Nice! But just don’t put too many! They can grow to 1 foot long! And they might fight, just be careful! Also keep in mind that they eat fish when they are big enough, along with shrimp, some plants, mealworms, and other things in that category. They also live for 35 years!!! You will have to keep them for a VERY long time. And if you are ever going to upgrade, don’t be afraid to make the water deep! Remember they live in lakes! Lakes are very deep! 👍👍👍

Never knew about filtration systems but you just showed me what I was looking for. Thank you thank you . Trying to make exactly what you did but on a small pallet table. Over the years I've had lots of Red Eared Sliders and Western Painted Turtles. I'm a truck driver and today a Western Painted walked in front of my truck. I jumped out and saved his life. He now is in my back yard with a hole lot of sand, and a kids wading pool with a ramp. He looks happy. They always smile! BTW, we are from Winnipeg, Manitoba and we have lots of Western Painted Turtles here.

That's a powerhead, not a filter, it doesn't "clean" anything, it just moves water. The dirt on the outside is going to wash away in the rain. Turt will be dragging dirt back in to tub making a muddy, soupy mess. Not putting gravel down will lead to that black tub absorbing the FL sun and raising temps to "turtle soup" levels. No overflow holes drilled in, so rain will cause this to overflow.

Living in ASIA... just got a small red ear slider, (2 inches). The tank isn't as big but I think its ok for now. It fits on the window so its getting natural sunlight. On sunny days it can get to hot to I used coved part of the tank with paper to give him more shade. Turtles are great, and your set up is pro!! Way to make it look easy as well!!!
