Binder separation is the bane of my existence. Gorgeous colors! I love Sennelier's "Sennelier Red" too. I've seen these and have been curious about trying them.

I got so excited the moment I saw renesans’ watercolors!! I switched over to Renesans from Winsor&Newton, as I was curious about cheap (no extra tax as the brand is from Poland where I’m from and they cost around 1.25$ at most where I buy them?) watercolors and I build a whole palette with pans since- never used W&N again (aside from their Payne’s Gray which is one-of-a-kind to me personally.) I bought some tubes and I experienced the binder separation problems with their Raw Umber and Payne’s Gray as you did and sadly the Potter’s Pink has a permanent issue with that. They dry in pans beautifully (in my opinion when you put them in a pan they feel better) and they have a very interesting range (and also all the ‘unique’ colors that Winsor and Newton doesnt really have).
They fit for my type of work, which is more towards the “controlled” watercolor tehcnique and their pans reactivate way faster than Winsor&Newton which I’m referencing to with as my first main pan set. I also find the colors are easier to mix and don’t separate as easily in that mix. Only thing, as mentioned before is the binder separation in tubes and sadly their new metallic watercolors have the same type of issue as W&N’s inks and the gold takes a l o n g time to get an even layer of the bronze pigment.
As for my favorites; I really enjoy their Caput Mortuum, Payne’s Gray and my top runner is Bordeaux Madder Lake.
I’m so happy you reviewed these

I used Renesans paints mostly and didn't have an opportunity to compere them with others like W&N. But I knew they were really good, and so cheap in Poland for obvious reasons. I prefer Indygo then Payne's Gray.

Wow, I had exactly the same experience! I tried Renesans because they were cheaper and found myself replacing all colors except Payne's Gray. W&N's Payne's Gray is just super special. I don't think I've ever found such a beautiful gray mix.

I love these paints; i use Renesans and M Graham exclusively. Renesans tubes are a different formula then their half pans so do keep that in mind when trying them out! The way the half pans dry down and rewet is closer to Daniel Smith paints, meaning they dry hard to the touch. The tubes are honey based and self leveling. They rewet and dry down so so well; cannot recommend them enough! My fave tubes are: mars black (pbk11) a lovely warm black closer to dark brown than black and it granulates like a DREAM. the brunt umber is also amazing as is the cobalt blue pale. fave half pans: caput mortem, geranium Lake, and Paris blue are unique beautiful colors.

Yes, they carry all the tubes in our local art shop here in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I just pick them one by one like candy. Probably not my favorite though as they seem a little weak, but they are fun to collect. Last time I got potter's pink. I also have a tin of 12 half pans and I like those better because they seem to have more pigment load. I would compare the Renesans to Maimeri Blu, another brand I collect.

I'm so happy you did a review of these paints! I didn't know the brand was popular outside of Poland. I got 45 of their half-pans in a wooden case for Christmas as my first watercolours and I'm very happy with them! I had similar issues with lack of pigmentation with one colour, but luckily it wasn't one that i use very often.

I have a set I chose for myself, half pans, I specially liked the cobalt colours, but enjoyed all of them and thought they handled very nicely. I live in the U.K. and when I bought mine they were only available from one shop in a small art gallery. The local artists love them because they are such great value. I like the flow feel of them, but I love my other brands too each for their different qualities. Something I really value about the Renescens colours is that I never feel precious about them so they are less inhibiting than the pricey brands. I have no real strong reds but went for more muted and dark ones, there’s a Naples yellow, and a gorgeous double pigment green good that separates and gives hard edges. I like the quirkiness of the colours, they are different from the standard ones. I am also happy to have some colours that are not single pigment, we do seem now to be paying a lot extra in the prestige brands for ‘specialist’ colours anyway.

I live in Poland and I got them sent a few years ago by a shop to test them. I enjoyed them a lot! Renesans tubes are so much better than the pans, to be honest. But some pans had interesting color mixes that granulated beautifully. Overall, they are good, especially considering the price point. But personally I would choose tubes if I had to buy them now ☺️
Oh, and you can use a toothpick to mix the paint inside the tubes, I did that and I managed to waste only a small amount of paint.

@Kamalita Rajagopalan i dont think that one of them is a student line and other professional, as far as i know they're just different. the two lines have different colors available and i've noticed that the ones in tubes have more binder in them, so if you use a thicker layer of them they will be glossy on paper. there probably are some more differences that i've never noticed since i dont use them much, but at the same time they probably arent that major, since usually even if a brand has multiple lines, they are still similar

I had a lot of problems with these paints. They were gummy, had lots of excessive binder separation (which made some colors super weak), I had to scrub hard at some as they were difficult to rewet (surprising since they are honey based), and I was super disappointed with the weird multi pigment colors. Also do NOT get potters pink, it’s like a pale pastel color (extremely difficult to reset!, very very disappointing for me! I also think the price adds up fast and the tubes don’t really contain a ton of paints if there is a binder separation problem going on. I would go with Rosa gallery or Roman szmal instead for an affordable and reliable paint (tho they have their own problems too ofc).

    Your painting is stunning!
That said, it really does look like you’re fighting these paints. The amount of pigment needed to reach a rich mass tone was shocking - especially the Payne’s grey when compared to the other brands - not to mention the stress on your brush trying to disperse the pigment. Overall the saturation seemed very underwhelming meaning you’d have to use so much more paint to get even a pale wash.

I do NOT recommend Renesans paints in tubes. Their formula is DIFFERENT between their pans and their tubes, and their tubes one is not working correctly. The binder is separating inside the tube, and even after you pour it into pans. I bought 6 tube colors from them in November, and poured them into pans (Prussian Blue, Naples Yell Pale, Potter's Pink, Olive Green, Cadmium Red Deep, VanDyke Brown). I swatched them and they looked ok for the most part right out of the tube. Then, I waited for 5-6 days for them to dry so I paint something with them. Oh, the horror. Complete separation of binder and pigment. Some colors more than others (Naples yellow Pale and Potter's Pink were the worst in terms of separation during these 5 days). These paints became un-paintable, totally gloopy. I haven't touched them since.
