I had no idea that MIYA made watercolors! The shape of the wells with the watercolor blocks in them reminds me of a cute box of chocolates.

I've seen people put their transparent mixing space on a piece of paper, and some even prefer it, because you can see the colour over your exact colour of paper (especially when you're working with paper that's not stark white of course)
I would personally just grab a ceramic saucer for mixing, but that's my preference.

    • @waymire01
      @waymire01 3 года назад +2

There is an artist I follow (Peter Sheeler) who does pen and wash landscapes, he uses a leftover piece of watercolor paper as a palette in every painting, seems to work fine. Personally I never use the mixing areas from palettes,.. if they have the "flaps" I remove them because they just get in my way. 90% of the time I use one or two 4.5" ceramic flower palettes to mix, and I have a rectangular plate from Walmart for larger washes... the vast majority of the time it just holds the flower palettes. I like having the little separated sections. They are very stable and so easy to clean, since they are not attached I just run them under the tap in the sink.

Would it help to put a white piece of paper under the plastic lid so that you’d be mixing on a white surface?

I'm sure your skills in art and filming/editing add a lot, but these paints look like they are so much fun to work with! They have such a nice flow to them.
I have plenty of watercolours right now, but I'll definitely keep this set in mind when I need a present (or an impromptu impulse buy).

I noticed that you could remove the paint tray of “pans” from the plastic container in the beginning of the video. I wonder if that’s how it’s intended for use, ie removing the tray and using the white container as a mixing area

So glad you got these and did a demo with them. Your painting was wonderful, as always.
I "had" to whish list these after Lindsey Weirich reviewed them; initially for the unique layout/shapes of the "pans", then because they were actually decent paints. I bought them on Prime Day and was so excited when they arrived.
I've only just swatched them so far, both on the included card and then they way I normally swatch paints in one of my journals. I love how easily they rewet, and you're right, the colors stay nicely vibrant. Looking forward to creating with them when I have more time, as my paint time is limited due to caring for a family member as well right now.
Thanks for taking the time to review these. Wishing a speedy recovery for your hubby!

As with the gouache, my main concern is the lack of lightfastness info.

Wow. I REALLY love this painting! It's stunning. And I loved watching you work on it as always. Your style is so inspiring to me. I haven't done a lot of painting yet as I am setting up a studio space in my spare bedroom in about a week. For now I draw and whatever in my sketchbooks from my bed as I am medically disabled so I hang out in bed most of the time. Hopefully the studio space will draw me in there to work at my enormous drafting table coming from my mom who is moving. Very exciting to have a place that will inspire more branching out with trying all these art supplies I have piling up!

It's random but I just wanna say you're one of my inspirations for stepping out of my comfort zone. Not sure if that's the right term but it makes portrait drawing more fun!

I love how they grouped the colors. Even though they didn’t supply pigment information some colors the pigments are just obvious to someone who knows pigments. They grouped the quinacridone range together, as well as the cool cobalt pigments and the zinc/titanium it was well laid out dividing the cool and warm colors wonderfully. I’m definitely gonna have to get these to play with.

I didn't know if this was intentional, but I see a lot of duality in the painting, or exemplified/fragmented parts of a whole. Perhaps the name could reflect that. words that come to mind when I see this painting are- quadrents, shattered sky, and (the) sheltered wounded. Your work is such an inspiration for me and I always enjoy your content!

I LOVE this palette and use it a bunch, incidentally was the first product I ever reviewed on my channel (I felt so professional lol). I agree with everything you said about the lack of appropriate mixing areas and the way the palette is constructed. I had a hard time using it when I tried plein air painting bc of the clunkiness of disassembling the thing while I sat in the park. It's still one of my favorite palettes though. That light violet color is so gorgeous. 😍

The colors on this piece are really nice! I tend to shy away from pools of water (because of backruns) and large areas of dark watercolor myself -- yet you make it look so effortless that I am inspired to just go for it and see how things turn out!
Also, I just destashed a lot of my student grade paints to donate to a middle school's art program. I think that these are close to the same vibrancy as I remember the WN Cotman paints to be, give or take. I love that this is accessibly priced and of such a quality that more people can get into watercolors. Thank you for showcasing these!

i actually think these might be a new, and possibly beginner/student line of watercolors for them (reminds me of my prang set)? i live in asia and i actually haven't seen this set though :0 i usually see their watercolors sold in either tubes sets (not individually), these round palettes, or in full travel kits that include a carrying case, 18 colors in a metal (opaque white!) palette, bookmark sized watercolor paper, and a water brush (search miya travel watercolor for pics, the quality is good and it's really cute!)
