- SHABBAT SHALOM part 1 WHAT IS SHABBAT? WHAT IS SHABBAT IN JUDAISM
In this 5 part SHABBAT SHALOM serie all about sabbath celebration This video is here to help you better understand the SABBATH CELEBRATION and in this part 1 we will focus on: WHAT IS SHABBAT?
Whether you are Jewish, observant ( shomer shabbbat) or not, have coworkers that are Jewish or just our of curiosity to better understand the world around you, this part 1 of a 5 part serie on Sabbath Celebration this video will help you better understand the shabbat celebration in Judaism and what is really shabbat?
Sabbath celebration in Judaism is at it's core
Not only is keeping the Sabbath or keeping shabbat is the 4th of the 10 Commandments but it is a essential point that is repeated again and again in the Torah ( Jewish Bible)
The sabbath /shabbat celebration in 2020 in essence is not different than the way we celebrated shabbat in the 19th centuries minus the quarantine/ social distancing situation! We still enjoy the shabbat food, the same rules on sabbath and guidelines, we do the same prayers as well as great everyone with a heartfelt SHABBAT SHALOM which means peace on your shabbat. Because when you day of Sabbath is peaceful you cannot truly connect with its essence and your true inner self: your better self, your true holy potential that is expressed through the celebration for your sabbath!
Shabbat is the time of rest not in a a way that we should sleep all day on Shabbat to have more energy on the rest of the days! On the contrary, the sabbath/shabbat is there for us to renew our spiritual energy, our connection with G.d and re-align our true direction in this world, to make sure that our life has a purpose, is meaningful and that we pass to our children , our family our friends and people that we meet this joy of disconnecting from the material things and connect with the ultimate truth and source of Energy: G.od!
If you have more questions on this part 1 what is shabbat please stay tune for the next instalments of this 5 part series on The Sabbath/shabbat as we will answer more questions as well as much much more!
Stay safe, healthy and blessed

What a beautiful and informational video! I am not Jewish, and we celebrate our Sabbath on Sundays, but my husband and I have a special dinner that i prepare every friday night. We light a candle and pray and it is a way for us to transition from the work week to the weekend. I have always enjoyed learning about the Jewish culture and find many of its practices not only interesting , but sacred and holy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for your kind words do not hesitate if you have any questions I would love to help until next time wishing you and your family a blessed week
I am not Jewish, and we celebrate our Sabbath on Friday, We especially bath and prayers to The God(Allah) Adam, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Ishmael, Solemn, King David, Joseph, Moses, Aron, Jesus and Mohammad (Peace be Upon him). We believe in only one God. El = Allah ❤

Thank you. I am heading straight to part 2. My 7 year old enjoyed the ground hog at the end and made me replay it.
I am happy your baby liked it!
LOVE This video
Our life is a rat race, unfortunately ... for me Shabbat is a time to reconnect with what is the most important my family, my self and God.
My favourite part of this video is your analogy with the artist.. it really spoke to me.
Thank you for your amazing videos. May you be rewarded for all your efforts.
Professor Michel I love her content too!
What a great tradition to keep going. Many of my Jewish friends don’t keep Shabbat so I really didn’t know much about it, other than the rules against heating things up or what I’ve heard at different points throughout the years. Honestly, I thought it would be very boring. Now as busy as I am with being a working mother of 4 with all the blessings of the life we built, it seems like a welcomed idea. Of course, it is not a tradition of ours in neither of our families, so it’s my place to admire yours and feel the inspiration in trying to dedicate some time in my life to hold a meditative reflection. The Jewish faith is one to be admired. Mine exists because Judaism exists, so I feel as Christians, we should yearn to know about it.
I’ve had friends make statements about why it is not a vice versa situation. Not a good analogy, but the only one I can think of is my Irish heritage- I have a vested interest in learning its traditions, yet the Irish in Ireland don’t need to know what changes sprung from the descendants of the Irish. it is more important to know the original for our own lives vs what can evolve from it. Also, the Jewish people thrive unlike any other.
I like the idea of Shabbat, we all need this in our lives.
Thank you so much ! This was so informative

Dear Frum it up: This video was so touching and so meaningful . I totally agree, We need to have this Shabbat to disconnect from the material realm and connect with the spiritual one. Thank you for making such beautiful content. It inspires me.

Oh my, Dr. Sara! I literally just asked for this topic in a newer video. 😂 May I offer a suggestion... I don't know if you can change the description after posting, but I had to hunt for part 1 after RUclips suggested part 3 first. 😊
Such a good point!!!
Shabbat Shalom! I love how you explain the deep meaning behind Shabbat, and it would be nice if everyone had some form of a rest day regardless of what religious beliefs (if any) you follow.
And I am not at all surprised to see a groundhog in the city-those little critters will live anywhere there is diggable soil! Just last night I was driving to the firehouse (I had just completed the annual EMS protocol updates and was dropping off a copy of the certification for the chief’s records) and saw an opossum running across the road right in front of my car! Naturally I slowed down to give the little guy passage and confirm that that was indeed what I saw, as they bear a striking resemblance to cats in the evening gloaming and I’d never seen one in our small town before (usually when I’m out that late it’s because I’m responding to a fire call and obviously distracted!). It’s always nice to see unusual things like that and remind ourselves of our connection with nature!
This is beautiful!

Really impressed with the very clear way you present Jewish concepts and distill them to their essence so that every word matters. You pack a lot of meaning into a little time. And beautifully filmed as always. Binge watching Sarah-Malka today. 😊
Hi Open Sesame
Thank you so much for your kind words!
They mean so much to me 🥰
Something many people do not know is that the sole purpose of this channel if to help and accompany my people and whoever wants to reach their higher purpose/potential : hence the name of the channel frum it up which means “elevate it”
So I take every comment like a guidance from above hence every word of every comment touch deeply my heart and mean so much to me!
So from the bottom of my heart: thank you.
Please let me know what you would want to see next!
I would really value your input!
Stay safe and blessed Sweet open sesame!
@@frumitup Thank you so much for your kind reply. What you are already doing is great, with the holidays and food and food prep, especially the series. It might be interesting to explore some of the other mitzvot and customs that the less jewishly educated find challenging or don’t understand. Can’t think of specific ones at the moment but for every question you have ever been asked on this subject, there will be thousands with the same question. And we can look up the answers but they don’t give us the “why”. That, maybe more than anything, is what I think people hunger for and you convey that with such feeling.

I’ve watched every single one of your videos!!!! You are an amazing woman and I’ve learned so much about your culture and religion!
Shalom Sarah. Thanks for this series of videos on Shabbat. I have some questions that perhaps you can answer, but first, a bit of background:
My family used to live in a large doorman apartment building in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood with a large Orthodox population. The building has 2 elevators for the 12 residential floors and a basement, and during a renovation, an infrared automatic sliding door was installed at the building entrance--as you approach the door and break the beam, the door slides open.
To accommodate Shomer Shabbat residents, one elevator was put into "Shabbat Mode", automatically stopping at every floor on the way up, and directly to the lobby on the way down. Management also installed a regular door for use on Shabbat; rather than use the automatic door themselves, the doorman opens the regular door for them manually..
I can see how breaking a beam of light would complete a circuit that causes the doors to slide open. Does pressing an elevator button also complete a circuit?
Also, not directly related, I've heard of some people not wearing shoes with laces on Shabbat so as not to tie them. Does this relate to tasks done at the tabernacle?
Do you have a video on the how to with this with small kids? I have 4 age 6 and under and while not Jewish have been wishing to celebrate this but I can't figure out the logistics when my kids still demand and half their food ends up on the floor.
What happened during Covid? Could you still go to Mikveh? Or synagogue?
You have the most melodious voice. I believe you could have a career in professional voice over work.
You are too kind Kathryn! I find your comment so touching especially that I received a comment a few hours ago that was quite nasty saying the opposite! So thank you again for your kind words

Thank you for such a beautiful and informative video. I have a question. Why do you spell this way: G.od? Thank you ❤️
hi my sweet Taos:)
we cannot erase the name of G.od, so we write it differently to make sure that is someone would print a document with the word on it, it would not be destroyed:)
@@frumitup 🥹. That is absolutely beautiful. I once met a young lady at the hospital gift shop. She is Jewish. She told me that The name G.od is so holy and sacred that she doesn’t say it. Does that make sense?
Also I have a friend who is a Christian but still celebrates and observes all Jewish holiday’s and customs. To a point. Anyway, SHE told me that in order to understand Jesus, you needed to understand Judaism.
Sweet Sara, thank you for answering my question’s and being open minded. I am a naturally very curious person and I also believe our higher power allows for different people in our lives to teach and uplift us. Thank you 😊
You are so welcome sweet friend ❤️❤️❤️
I have another question. I go to a Church every Sunday for preaching and fellowshipping. Does the whole family go to Synagogue on your Sabbath?
For us , yes ❤️
Are there different ways to pronounce Shabbat? I have seen other channels that say Shabbat different from yours. Is it a regional difference? Have a great day.
Hi Karin!
There is
sha-bat ( like I do)
Sha-bos ( found in our Ashkenazi brothers)
Sa-bat ( usually in non religious circles)
Sha-bas (kind of a remix, rarely used)
I hope it helps!
@@frumitup Thank you. Have a great day.
How often do you celebrate shabbat?
Shabbat begins on Friday night at sundown until Saturday night at sundown.❤
Shabbat it’s Saturday the 7* day
Hi Jonatan!
Thank you for your comment :)
You are absolutely right Shabbat is on the seventh day that is for sure!!!
please let me know if you have any further questions
all the best and Shabbat shalom!
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you Christopher!
Let me know if you have any questions; I am here to help you!
@@frumitup Sara you say 25 hours for Shabbat in your blog. Isn’t Shabbat kept from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday? So how is it 25 hours?
@@christopherbeecham7645 hi Christopher!
What a great question!
Because we light the candles 18 minutes before sundown to make sure we do not accidentally light and it’s already Shabbat and we finish Shabbat about 30 minutes after Shabbat as per our sages ruling to be sure we do not do something not permitted and it is still Shabbat in total it is closed to 25h ❤️
I hope it helps!
@@frumitup What do you mean by your Sage’s ruling? 18 minutes & 30 minutes, only equals 48 minutes obviously. Not an hour. Plus Why do you write G.od not just God? I’m sorry I have more questions than I have answers.
@@christopherbeecham7645 I love questions! So keep them coming please!!
So the 25 hours also includes the fact that we add time in our Shabbat to stay basking in the spiritual light and presence of G.od hence the added time to reach 25 h
Also we write G.od as Orthodox Jews because no name of G.od should be written in case somebody would ( in this case print it and ) destroy the paper with the name of G.od on it.
As per our sages it refers to previous rabbis that ruled on Halacha aka Jewish law
I hope it helps!
I see, to connect our inner self to The God of the Torah or Bible! To remember HIM. Thx. Answered to soon!
Thank you for your comment!
If I may direct your attention to a few places in the video:
When you listen from the beginning we state clearly that Shabbat is a commandment from G.od/ Torah.clearly.
If you listen carefully at 2:15 I explicitly say that Shabbat is there to connect with G.od🥰
I do so as well at 2:31- 2.47
I also say clearly at 2:52 that Shabbat is a gift from G.od
And at 3:12 I say that the goal of Shabbbat is to connect with G.od
I guess you missed all these references/ maybe you clicked off before the end!
Thank you again for your comment as I reviewed my video and made sure that the source/ goal of Shabbat is all related to G.od
I hope it helps!
Shabbat shalom!
. thank you, I did not listen to the end, switched off when you started with higher self. I will listen to it and if found that I acted to quick will remove my reply?

Dear frum it up, the Torah is not the only Part of Holy Scriptures of Judaism; there is also Nevi'im an Chetuvim.
Are they not important for You?
Who said that Torah was the only Holy scripture? The complete Tanach is important as well all the other componenets that complete our Holy scriptures!
