This song gets me every time. My dad grew up in Eden, NC as a child and it was where my parents lived before they had to leave to come to Florida for work.
This song makes me feel so sad, and somehow so peaceful at the same time. Truly brilliant work.
I wonder if these four will ever have a reunion. This was just magical.
I so love this song; part of my family comes from Reidsville, NC. My biological father worked in that region, and struggled often to find work. The pathos of this song speaks to the deep wounds of mill towns across the region. Thank you.
If you live in one of these Edens in North Carolina or elsewhere, this song will bring you to tears. It's like our theme song, beautiful and sad...
Absolutely sublime cello and vocal work by Leyla Sarah McCalla, both pizzicato and the two beautiful solos...
The beauty of Rhiannon's voice and the beauty and sadness of these lyrics somehow intermesh to make me cry every time I hear this. Just awesome.
Dying is just another word for leading the one's you love. Unreal kick ass
I keep listening to it over and over again. It's such a deeply touching song, can't get enough!
That's when i saw them and was stunned. I watched that performance of Jackson about 20 times. They've completely flipped my music world upside down right now.
I adore you, Caroline Chocolate Drops! Your creations elicit truth via emotions in my mind. In other words, you are sublime artists.
Will be played at my funeral. Magical.
Wonderful vocals and excellent playing. They are one of my favorites.
Would love to get tabs/notes for upright bass for this especially the solo in middle when bow is used. I am just learning and like to practice songs that I love. I am watching that cello intently. Love love love the chocolate drops. Hope to see them back at GreyFox.
Sacred music for & by a sacred people
in complete defiance of the devil!
& all the hedonistic profanity beleaguering the musical world marketplace...
an absolutely exquisite utterance!!!

Truly magnificent musicians and very good looking group too, and the singing aint bad either. Their repertoire is excellent. Look forward to seeing them in person one day
Rainin while raisin folicles on neck. Consoles the spirit so beautifully.
Wonderful tribute to the town of Eden.
Quelle belle interprétation ! On sent une émotion passer chez les musiciens, elle nous envahit, que du bonheur… Magnifique Rhiannon Giddens …
So beautiful and entrancing. Love it.
The sound of this song in this old church is as close to a religious experience as I expect to get.
Impressionant!.

Magnifique...
And the mockingbird can sing
Like the crying of the dove
And I can’t tell my daughters
All the things that I am scared of
But I am not afraid of that bright glory up above
Dying’s just another way to lead the ones you love
Lovely artists, Carolina Chocolate Drops
So beautiful. What a shame the audio is so quiet.
Hush now, don’t you wake up
We’ll be leaving at first light
Mama's buying you a mockingbird
To lull you through the night
Across the Dan by morning
Here’s a blanket for you to share
They’re building down in Georgia
Daddy hears he’ll find work there
And the mockingbird can sing
Like the crying of the dove
And I can’t tell my daughters
All the things that I am scared of
But I am not afraid of that bright glory up above
Dying’s just another way to lead the ones you love
No work for the working man
Just one more empty mill
Hard times in Rockingham
Hard times harder still
The crows are in the kitchen
The wolves at the door
Our father's land of Eden is paradise no more
And the mockingbird can sing
Like the crying of the dove
And I can’t tell my daughters
All the things that I am scared of
But I am not afraid of that bright glory up above
Dying’s just another way to lead the ones you love
aroomfullofmirrors Breaks Down The Meaning Of 'ARFOM'
My sister stayed in Eden
Her husband’s got some land
An agent for the county thinks that they might make a stand
A hard life full of working
With nothing much to show
A long life of leaving with nowhere to go
And the mockingbird can sing
Like the crying of the dove
And I can’t tell my daughters
All the things that I am scared of
But I am not afraid of that bright glory up above
Dying’s just another way to lead the ones you love
She makes it look easy.
GUITARISTS----> What's that chord he's playing at 0:47? On the word "lull"? I'm trying to learn this and the only chords I've found online reckon it's a Bm, but it's no shape I know of for Bm - to me a Bm means 224432 ('cos I'm a bit basic in my chord knowledge) Could anyone tell me the actual fingering there?
I'd love the chords for this.
just find out bout these guys week ago from j cash tribute i luv it andrew dale theonemanhellbillyband

Yeah Beautiful
el tebi silenci de la vida
Cello plucking is great for folk music groups who want to keep their lineup all acoustic but can't afford an upright bass.
This makes my heart sad
It's a mandolin.
A steel bodied one at that.
Treme, in real life.
