Laurelyn Dossett is an incredibly talented songwriter and singer in her own right. She has written music for several theatrical productions, all of them terrific. Look into them. She's a great storyteller, and that's what this music is all about.
One of my very favorite Giddens performances. Vastly prefer it to the Chocolate Drops' album version! Just gorgeous! The simplicity and the composer's presence add so much in bringing both the song and the performers down to their far-from-bare essences! Love it!
