If it's not much more current than a TV flyback you're going to be fine. I did it on purpose to see what it's like. It gives you a nice jolt, but nothing more than annoying and maybe a bit painful.
@@techalyzer Yeah a lot of people just hear high voltage and think "DANGER!!!!!!!!!!!" it's a combination of high enough voltage, high enough current, and low frequency that's dangerous

Yeah! It was fun for me to get to the history of LC switched oscillators too. As per usual it all started with wikipedia loll. Here’s the HV AC module I use now, a good one. What would probably be cool is mount a couple slide-able magnets on a variable speed motor to have run under tubes, etc. (Enclosed for safety). Happy New Year!
Plasma phenomena experimenters have much to discover. Look at what happened with the Safire project. They ran into one of those, "What the heck is that?" moments. They reported some unexpected phenomena towards the end of their experiments. They observed what appeared to be over-unity results, which means they were seeing more energy output than input, a concept that challenges conventional thinking. This led them to diverge from their original goals and pursue further investigation into these anomalies. The team has been exploring these unexpected results to understand the underlying mechanisms. They have focused on the potential for new energy technologies and their implications for our understanding of plasma physics and stellar phenomena. The findings are still under review and require further validation, but they have sparked significant interest in the scientific community.
A great showcase of work- I like the plasma driver circuit - some new devices to play with. I recently converted a HFSSTC Plasma Flame circuit to run your plasma toroid design. I had it running at 8.7 MHz and had amazing effects Perl’s and intermittent quasi stable toroid - I altered the primary and now get a solid, stationary doughnut / torus - I have played with the inductor values a bit -!to keep the mosfet from premature over heat I noticed a curious thing on minimum on voltage I get a thin ribbon torus and it screams - more voltage - then with a small increase its like a water drop / echo. Too much voltage it sounds like a Moog oscillator with a high pitch shouting whistle -(Turn the input down ) - So some clearly defined parameters - I use a piezo lighter unit with 2 wires just exposed touching the glass - It works like very well - but got my first RF burn in weeks because of kick back from the primary - black plastic is conductive at HV potential.😂 Finally my glass bulb is giant - and gets noticeably warm after a few minutes of operation - (normal???) Keep up the excellent work 🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👍 ***Tesla would be proud to bear witness to the tribute being paid in his name, for a legacy he could never realise or be justly awarded for, whilst he was alive. *** Money may talk # but Nikola was certainly a man of wisdom, integrity, knowledge to kind for the society of his time, even though he made some famous connections - he was ultimately a lone spirit in a harsh world….
plasma toobs :) also, you should probably actually connect the "ground" to ground. Your "tingling" when touching it is due to it being a floating ground. If somehow the polarity of the windings changed and the ground becomes HV, that would not be pleasant. Will also improve the transformer's longevity. Happy New year and stay safe, don't use Sicfets as firecrackers like I do.
What would happen if a vacuum jacketed tube was used, with the gas in the outer layer where it would be somewhat constrained? The center tube could have a second gas.
Cool video! I was curious, does your friend sell plasma tubes like the larger ones he sent you? (Also are there any forums or other resources you use to find others interested in plasma and fun stuff like this?)
@ Thank you! I need to do a deeper dive, but all the artists I’ve found so far are retired / inactive. I’m half tempted to just bite the $1000 bullet and get some ‘cheap’ gear to make my own tubes- but I figured trying to find someone that has some ‘been there, done that’ would be a lot simpler than ‘reinventing the wheel’ for myself. (Aside from the fire and burn hazards of blowing glass and pulling relatively high vacuums on it haha)

Yeah I could! Though I did connected ground to the negative side of the DC supply in the final enclosure, forgot to mention that
