    Your enthusiastic Voice Play reaction was a great way to start my day- thanks! Yes, the Phantom is Tony Wakim, their former baritone singer that stepped down from singing when he and beatboxer, Layne, bought PattyCake Productions. Tony is still very much a part of the Voice Play family staying behind the scenes in building sets, camera work, directing, making costumes and day to day operation of PattyCake Productions. He did not like the demands of singing on tour and prefers to stay close to home and be more involved in theater production (Tony made the dress that Rachel is wearing here.) I think you would really enjoy Voice Play's "I Knew You Were Trouble/As Long As You Love Me" with both Rachel and Tony (and a big surprise from Layne). You would also really enjoy Tony's acting and singing in an old musical skit from their 'Sing Off' tour, "Road Trip".

    It's funny when some people try to denigrate "old" Voiceplay compared to current. Not that they haven't grown and improved but they were never "so-so". Great reaction, as always!

    Many people love Rachael's voice but kind of write her off as "Disney Princess" and here she shows her crazy range.
    You strapped in, but you were jumping for joy. I think you broke your straps.

    This was the first of their theatrical style videos, as Tony explains at the end. Tony Wakim left the group to work behind the camera and run Pattycake Productions with Layne.

    It's such a magically chilling version that was created by Tony's mastermind...
    VoicePlay are kings of intricate rhythm manipulation and it is such a treat to have a reactor who highlights it!
    Thanks Shellee and Klown

    Tony Wakim was VPs baritone until he decided to get into productions. At that point Tony and Layne bought Pattycake Productions studio. They auditioned and got J None to take Tony's place. Love this one. Have you done The Greatest Showman? Another goodie. Try also for We're Good which was Cesar's audition filling both baritone and tenor ranges (Earl and J None) which allows VoicePlay to have a great deal of flexibility. The theme parks that they cut their teeth on required short hair for the guys back then. When you talked about the roller coaster it brought to mind ACrimpella done in the past by VoicePlay. It doesn't have a roller coaster but it does have a blender.

  • @MarieDesJardin
    @MarieDesJardin 7 дней назад +1

    I love your analogy of a VoicePlay song being liked strapped into a rollercoaster. "We're done, here's your brain back now, k thx!" Very cute. And it's true that VP didn't feature Geoff as much in their early videos. He would have a solo line and maybe a couple of low notes per song, and typically one feature per year. Over time (and perhaps after seeing Tim Foust's success during the Sing Off) they started moving him into a more prominent role.

    Thank you, love the reaction. Miss Tony’s singing, but he’s busy at Pattycake studios doing what he loves. I think that’s my favorite thing about VoicePlay. When one of their member is growing in a different direction they seem to encourage and support them.

    This captures the predatory vibe of the Phantom, instead of making it a love triangle that paints Raul as the intruder.

    This is one of the "controversial" treatments among us VoicePlayers. Personally, it's one of my favorites. There is definitely a lot of energy and emotion in the song. And when Tony screams SING FOR ME! Chills go up and down my body! I love this!

      Why is it "controversial"?

    • @EtherealForever
      @EtherealForever 7 дней назад +6

      @@Klownmusicreacts - apparently because Layne's arrangement of this is very different to the original. He said they never know if their interpretations would be well received and this one caused the most division from fans and reactors alike at the time. Personally I also love it! 🌹🕊

    • @zarasha8220
      @zarasha8220 7 дней назад +11

      @@EtherealForever for lack of a better term... 'purists' like those you mentioned, who don't like this arrangement because a cover is "supposed to" be an exact replica of the original, completely miss the point of what insanely talented artists are doing when they do a cover of a song. If I wanted to hear an exact replica of the song, why would I even waste my time? I'd just as soon listen to the original than someone else trying to be a carbon copy. The whole allure of covers is that the artists can completely reimagine, to re-sculpt a song into something entirely new.

    The phantom is Tony Wakim former (vocal) member of Voiceplay up until 2016 (j none replaced him). He works BTS (so still part of Voiceplay in my books just not vocal) on a lot of voiceplays current stuff and he and Layne own Pattycake Productions (highly highly recommend checking out their channel). He’s a super talented guy, making a lot of the costumes etc.
    Hmm do I suggest “once upon a dream” for another Tony song ?! 🤔😉😂

    There are many who have done good versions of the Phantom, but I seriously think this is one of the most sinister one. I always think both the masques they are wesring and the circling around Rachel as menacing. Most memorable.

    I was lucky enough to see Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman doing POTO. So I'm a pretty picky Phan! This was my first discovery of Voiceplay, but I only watched a few moments, didn't like it much, not realizing it was acappella, before turning it off. I came back to it after becoming a Voiceplaya, and now it's my second favorite version. Oh, and any POTO fans reading this, I would like to suggest my second favorite book of all time, "Phantom," by Susan Kay. It's the story of Eric (the Phantom) and his life, told from differing viewpoints, starting with his mom. It's REALLY good!💙
