I love how the powers of overwhelming narrative still have rules they have to obey, like how he was slowly reverting back to the author when the reality anchor was breaking the effect of the narration he needed to write himself out of the effect by first changing the environment then removing the things that didn't belong in the noir setting and changing it so the character has a plausible victory. He can't just write "and murphy law wins everything saves the day gets the girl and becomes ultra mega president of the universe!" He has to remain in the realm of plausibility hes limited by the moment and scenario and can't just say he knows the answer he has to write a way to discover it. I have to give credit to whoever wrote this, it was beautifully done I hope I get to hear more about murphy laws adventures

For a long time I loved the Stephen King short story Umney’s Last Case for being such a unique subversion on the hard boiled gumshoe story, my first real taste of pataphysics before I knew what that was. It was a story about a detective who slowly, through tropes of his life being phased out, is replaced by his author. It was such a crazy idea, especially to a kid who wrote a lot, and it stuck with me for years. Then along come the Murphy Law skips and that magic gets sparked again, especially in this one. It feels like an evolution of the idea, and I am here for this new pataphysics renaissance

I got genuinely unnerved when Murphy's character was broken.
All the voice acting by TES and writing by cwazzycwafter was great throughout but that scene really made it for me. A big thanks to both of you.
The fact he was replaced by cwazzycwafter was a nice touch and his panic seems very real when he loses control of the story.
Unnerving on another level because it meant Murphy lost his identity even if it wasn't for long.
Probably reading too much into things but I think the themes speak to how characters and stories have real life of their own.
They can be directed by the author(s) to a point but only to a point. Otherwise they're just hollow puppets and words.
A story you write can and often will go where you don't intend, a supporting character can become the protagonist and even the overall genre can deviate from what was intended at first. Just my interpretation.

As far as death of an author goes, the author is always in relation to the text missing, so presumed dead. Writing a lot myself, and being an aspiring author, I like to say when asked that I have no power at all within the text, and I am just merely the one writing it. Because I cannot drop karma anvils on characters that by all rights deserve it, as that is the job of the characters within the story to sort out. I can't move stars to build bridges to help anything, or anyone out, as the world of the writing needs to have its own ways for this to occur. My hands can't move to cover nothing, so I can't spare, nor harm a single character. So in a way, the stories live their own lives and me here with the keyboard has little to no say over how it lives its life. As far as the characters are concerned, I do not exist, and I think mine would also have a few things to say about someone trying to fiddle with the narratives to insert themselves as a Godlike Author that dominates the destinies of all things.
I personally do adore some of this sort of thinking, because it gives plenty of cause for very amusing food for thought thoughts about our reality, and our nature. That is, are we merely characters in a story world? Yet still, capable of writing some of our own, which in turn could be how we are seen. A story writes a story, which writes another story, which in turn goes on to writing yet another story, and it goes on and on Ad Infinitum. From a certain point of view, you can argue because we are shaped by the media we consume, and as we are by proxy of being human beings quite the natural story tellers, that to tell a story is to go on to shape two worlds: Ours, and the one of the story being told. If you want to place this all on a scale of what is above or below one: Sometimes up, is after all down, and down becomes up. Or they are both, in reality, just the same, but merely different wibbly-wobbly-parts of it all.

@@videocrowsnest5251 You have more power than you realize, young padawan of the pen. You can have anyone do anything you want to in a story, to anyone you want to with a character to prove a point to the reader or just in general in universe, for whatever reason you want to them to, I am trying to say that you have power untapped. Your way seems boring and kinda sad, like that one Morty. "Oh I can't be a god that self inserts." MF Tolkien did with TOM BOMBADIL and everybody fuckin loves him and praised Tolkien. (Spits). I only appreciate that Bombadil grew bored with the ring, was able to hold it, wear it but not become invisible and also, was too much of a nature lover to care about it, so much so he even might have accidently lost it if he ever had it. Even if a Balrog got the ring it would be kept safe not on purpose from the world to protect it, but to protect the ring from the world. You don't have to be a God IN that world, you are the Narrative level that made that world and just the very littlest influence goes a long way, if you will. I admit writing the story I am speaking of has changed me more than I have changed my story.
Things I want don't fit and don't work, I have to work at it and help it along, but the characters themselves have more power than me, because I make it so. Distribution of power so mine does not corrupt absolutely, and they keep it going while I just add flavor and things for them to fight. I am all the other people IN the world, while my characters represent D&D players. I can still influence their decisions and what happens to them, but it is because I know they can handle it. Although they are not players, I made them, but they take the mantle of responsibility, that is how I set my story telling up for this one at least. There are still levels of narrative control, but they can be over-written by a higher power. Since I divided up mine with my characters and the world of people and things that goes on, that greater power is Life. Life truly dictates what goes on in my story.
Have been using AI Dungeon to assist me and watching 80's anime and violent shit with musical accompaniment to really sell what happens. If YT was not Super Weenie Hut Jr's about content and certain words now, and also if AI Dungeon didn't break on me, I'd show you what I mean. There is power in words and there are reasons writers do evil things or good things to characters. You can't just simply say "Oh yeah I have a story going and it literally writes itself, with no help from me." Yeah okay here is your instant gratification, kiddo, MF while I slave over, (I don't let the AI do very much only some because of complications and certain instances of violence or stuff on children it triggers a fail safe for the AI and it won't make output. Okay fine that is for a writing an AI reason and safety of others. Fine I understand and besides you are supposed to "DIY" in AI Dungeon.) this like a 5-star Chef in a Restaurant cooking for The Social Elite. Mate I make some really very gruesome stuff because the world I view around me is garbage. We are living in a dystopia, albeit it is very boring and dull here and ruled by Corpos.
New Space Age crap as of the 2020's, Elon Musk, and 3D printable hands for amputees. Deus Ex, new video game technology and VR. AI, image, text generation, and or art generation, right even down to negative AI input being experimented with, i.e., Loab. Even having a conservation with an AI creation through AI itself, giving it a voice and "thoughts", GPT-3. We have not touched the stars, but we ARE one the verge of a lot of tech break throughs AND Quantum computing. There is also a mixed-up societal culture going on as I call it a "Contemporary Renaissance". 2020- 2021 was a fascination with medieval and 20's-30's music. Doom makes for some banger medieval music, so does Eminem and Star Wars, Halo even, Gotye, with their, "Somebody I used To Know" makes a very good medieval remix. 2022-2023 Tech and Space Sci developments, New Telescope in place of Hubble (probs later) Self-driving Cars, Brain Implants. Covid is going to be here for a while longer, let's keep it real, at least until 2025 or so. I take these themes and mix them up similar to Samurai Champloo but only on multiple levels with multiple different things, not just the two shown in the anime, but all kinds. I love pataphysics. Many don't like when the fourth wall breaks, but I think the SCP multiverse (and Rick and Morty) is one of the best places to do such a thing. It just makes narrative sense in both our world and theirs due to the anomalous nature of SCP.
I love when anomalies get meta and self aware where they start to analyze the very structure of their existence and how it relates to the levels above and below. So fascinating.
