    About Spectre Sound Studios:
    I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
    We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
    Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
    I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

    I should also pretend to have a meltdown and scream about this not being Viewers Comments. In saying that, these sims are getting good. I just tried the Fortin NTS plugin and was impressed. Still going to stick with my Kemper for my recordings. These however are a great option for someone who cannot afford real amps or modellers.

    That Revenant pedal is incredible. I saw Ignite (who did the pedal sim for STL I believe--don't quote me on that!) tease it on Facebook and one of the top comments was someone asking about a plugin version. This is it!

  • @blacksaona

    The funny thing about this brand is that i think that the old Emissary sounds way better than all the newer stuff and also counts the new STL Emissary.
    I need to hear more of the STL Will Putney tho.
    And yes, Neural is killing it with their stuff.

  • @Aldorelaxingguitar

    Nice review showing the different aspects and tonal possibilities! I’m demoing the plugin and being an older metal player I was sticking with OD pedal as that was how I ran with my JCM 800, but I’ll have give the Revenant a chance. I have a few different guitar plugins already but finding STL Tones really sound pretty natural and responsive right off the mark, they respond like real amps with more articulations which you covered and explained nicely in your video. There’s much tone to explore with these amps and cabs. The AC amp actually has a few different flavors so even someone that may not enjoy high gain can really dial up some nice clean or blues tones! Thanks for another review as I enjoy your videos! 🎸😎✌️👍

  • @dudarino666
    @dudarino666 5 лет назад +2

    Glenn, have you done a video on how guitar tuning affects dialing in a tone? Example, comparing the exact same guitar tone with 3 different common guitar tunings and seeing how that changes the EQing of a guitar tone. Hope that makes sense.

    The Ignite Emissary 2.0 is on STL, too. That updated version also has the different tube options. Also comes with a new cab IR loader with some new options, and both let you save presets like they were modeling amps, but actually NICE to listen to.

      @@TheSouldead1 Yeah I'll be honest, I didn't really care much for the first Emissary. It was fine, but not really the sound I was looking for. But now with that EL34 setting in the 2.0, I'm really enjoying it. I can't believe they're giving both that AND an IR loader with a vintage 30 impulse set for free. It's a great time to be a broke musician.

    Been using the STL Will P for a couple months now and absolutely love it. I have the Neural stuff, Waves, ENGL, PRS, Slate, etc. and the STL stuff is by far my favorite. Glenn, if I'm hearing you correctly on the dual cabs, why not just run it in Dual Amp mode, pick the same amp (for both options), and then select different cabs? That would give you the 2 different cabs you are looking for with just the one amp, no? If this Andy James gear is anything like the Will Putney, its going to be killer!!

      with a lot of amp vsts, especially free ones you've got to do little to heavy post processing to make them sound the way you want (make sure you start from good sounding impulses though). And keep in mind that tones that work in mono don't necessarily sound good when panned left/right, so one thing to do when preparing a digital tone for a full mix (and not to play along) is to start the tone shaping already on a single channel (left or right is your choice), that way if it sounds good on one speaker by itself, it will almost surely sound good when the same tone is panned left/right

    GLENNNN!!!!! Please help. I purchased a Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen and I plugged it in and I’m using the Ignite Emissary. It sounds great, but the latency is enough to fuck me up every time. I tried messing around with the buffering settings in Reaper but nothing seems to be working. I wonder if it has to do with my headphones being plugged in to my computer. I find if I mute the track I’m recording it helps, but I’d like to hear how it sounds. I’m just a beginner so this is all new to me. Do you have any tips that might help?

    • @poulwinther

      You plug the headphones into the interface and then adjust latency.

      Poul Winther Knudsen yeah I forgot I even posted this. I’ve since picked up the adapter I needed and hooked up some shitty desktop speakers. Not as good as an actually decent amp, but it does the trick for now

    So I’m _Doin’ the Dale_
    Mixing a funk band. Everyone is on the dance floor, so I guess it’s a good night.
    Annandale Hotel. An iconic Sydney venue relegated to funk cover bands and overpriced undercooked burgers served on a slab of wood stabbed with a carving knife banned in London....and rough cut wedges in a @nicktherat size deep fry basket
    I’ll have to -watch- listen on the drive home
    Cheers

    Glen, what should I do? My brand new Asus Vivobook with Win 10 and my Roland Quad capture ua 55 are not pretty much compatible - the sound is interrupting and it's even missing the click of metronome. I've tried different drivers - ssme issue. I collected money to buy this stuff fir a long time with blood and sweat, but those issues are so much pain in the arse, that sometimes I'm about to give up. What are words of wise, any advice? Should I get into the Hackintosh stuff? It's so much demotivating(
    Cheers from Kiev and thank you, Glen.

      I honestly hate Apple shit, but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't depend on my MacBook to make music. OS X just handles music production better and everything is native to the system so you never really run into issues. That being said, hackintosh might not be the answer because you might run into the same driver issues. A hackintosh fakes a Mac product by emulating what product of theirs your computer is close to specs wise. I'm not saying it won't work, you might just have issues.

      @@Daddyfly_FPV Yes, but Roland has issues with Win10 and has a huge variety of drivers for iMac. If Hackintosh use iMac drivers, it could work.

    Don't know about this one. It sound great and I love Andy James, but I feel the Will Putney version offer way more amps, more presets, etc. But that is just my opinion.

    • @jlsdust
      @jlsdust 5 лет назад

      @@kill3r_b75 Yeah, at the moment it cost $150. But when it was introduced it was $99. It has actually drop to the $99 a couple of times on offer days. Like I said is only my opinion. I will recommend to download but trials and compare.

      I pulled the trigger and got it. I really like it. Glen only touched the surface of this plug in. I also own the Will Putney and I love it, but I can see where I can use them both. I really like the "mid" of the 6505 and STL really did a good capture of it.

    I really wish developers would stop making amp sims as all-in-ones. I would love to be able to just buy a Marshall or Peavey amp sim as a stand alone software and then chain on pedal and impulse software separately. As it stands now free amp sims give you more options for tone since you can change impulse responses and pedals with no strings attached.
