Thank you for watching the video. I really enjoyed my visit there, it was a wonderful experience. We also visited Bath and Stonehenge that day. Please subscribe to my channel.
I remember taking that same Bath, Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge day trip in the 90s. I'm currently reading "Sarum: The Novel of England" by Edward Rutherfurd, a fictionalised history of England that spans from 2500 BC through the 20th century. I'm currently reading the portion of the book when Salisbury Cathedral is being built. Each era within the novel features a fictional character that is used as the reader's point of view, and in the Salisbury Cathedral construction era the writer uses a master stone mason. It's interesting to see the bit in the Chapter House, because in the book it is this master stone mason who carves the friezes of the various stories from the Bible which the tour guide points to with his laser. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment. Really enjoyed your video! Thanks
Wow, thank you very much for watching the video and for your comment. Sounds like a fascinating way to learn about history. We also visited the orignal site of the cathedral, which was outside of the modern town. Please subscribe to my channel and I sure hope to be able to visit again soon!

I agree. It was an amazing place to visit and I've been watching a lot of documentary videos on RUclips about the cathedrals history. Thank you very much for watching the video and I invite you to please subscribe to my channel.
Nice video. I went to the cathedral as a kid on a school trip in 1991. I was to busy being a kid back then and didn't pay any attention. Thanks for the video and giving me a chance to take it all in.
Wow, must have been a cool memory. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you got to get a closer look at some of the building's amazing features. I look forward to a time when I can return, I really enjoyed my visit. We did Bath and Stonehenge on the same afternoon.

Thank you for posting this incredible private tour of this great cathedral. I’m reading Sarum by Edward Rutherford now and this video brings the story to life. I simply must visit this amazing place!
You must!!!! I need to read that, I have heard of it and we did visit (drive by) Old Sarum, the hilltop area of the former cathedral. I have been binge watching documentaries about the cathedral on RUclips and have learned an incredible amount since my visit. I look forward to returning, armed with a lot of new knowledge. Thank you very much for watching the video and for your comment. I invite you to please subscribe to my channel!
@@FreddySherman Yes, you really need to pick up Sarum if you like historical fiction. It’s a long read, but very engaging. It covers thousands of years of history of the Salisbury area including the construction of the cathedral. I’m really loving it!
I'm watching this because I'm reading Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett, and I believe he based the fictional Kingsbridge Cathedral on the Cathedrals of Salisbury and Wells. Fascinating tour. Hopefully I get to visit both soon.
I am not familiar with that book but I will look it up. Yes, I highly recommend a visit. It's an easy day-trip from London, usually done in conjunction with a Stonehenge and Bath visit. Thanks for watching the video and please subscribe to my channel.
@@FreddySherman thanks for your reply. I'm more familiar with the north of England. If you haven't been I recommend the Abbey ruins of North Yorkshire in a single trip: Whitby; Rievaulx; Fountains etc.
If you've never had a look around Salisbury Cathedral or it's exceptionally fine tall tower/spire, I recommend it ! And the view attained at the base of spire as opposed to tower is outstanding
It's beautiful, I learnt about it after those 2 infamous Russians spoke about how beautiful the cathedral Church was, which they visited in 2017. But I can't find the clock mate
True, but keep in mind, that's not a new thing. When the cathedral was retored in the mid-1800s, most of the original stained glass was removed and thrown away!!
I can't show everything, the video would be hours long! Please tell me about the secret passages and rooms, the guide did not mention that to me. Thank you!
You know I think you're right and I may replace it it's a little too funky. Thank you very much for watching the video and please subscribe to my channel. It was a truly amazing place to visit and I look forward to returning to England.
Sadly the graffiti from the 1400s is a trick. The earliest graffiti date is 1554 and can be found at floor level. I was the manager of the cathedral’s graffiti project.
Luxury Fred yes, I remember that We went to Stonehenge too, we visit the church, we saw the river...I just love to travel! And your videos give us a taste of the places, nice to meet you!
What a crime...to throw away the mediaeval glass. It's amazing how little they respected their own heritage because of their prejudices concerning popery. It's such a tragic loss to the nation.
Some was saved. I think the opinion (at that time) was that it was old, and why not replace it with newer windows. Very sad indeed. Thanks for watching the video.
No problem the video was great. I didn't know they had a tour that allowed you to go up to the gallery. It was thrilling to learn that those were the same ancient beams of wood! I was hoping you'd ask if they cured the wood first-- let it dry out and age before using it in construction. Do you kmow? Yes in those days they were all about doing the new thing, much like people for much of the 20 c to be honest .
@@sandie157 This was a special private tour, but I think they offer public "tower tours" which take you into the same area and also up into the tower. Interesting question about curing the wood and I don't know the answer.
