This is probably the best reaction I’ve seen of this vid, instantly made her say “i have to go try this now.” Shows women have a place in metal and it’s awesome to see that she is an inspiration to aspiring female vocalists!
I've watched a few of these Pisces reaction videos, and while most people love it, the women seem to be inspired and excited, but a few of the men say it's not real, at least at first. It figures. Sigh. Well, I for one am inspired (but not to try this at home).
I've seen Jinger live. Tatiana can ABSOLUTELY do all of this live, without any effects. Watching your reaction to her skills is amazing; the stunned looks you give as she shows off her (admittedly amazing) range and skills are absolutely charming.
@@nikabay7190 right… but it will be going through effects etc. everyone who sings live has reverb put on right? So makes sense can just add a bit of distortion. Might not be a peddle on the stage, but easy to do on sound desk. I’m not suggesting she’s miming

As a metalhead, I do believe screaming and growling counts as singing. The amount of practice it takes to have that ability takes longer than you thing. To be able to scream or growl healthily, without damaging your vocal chords takes a lot of time and patience to get to that point.
coming from the same place, i think only when you do screaming correctly it should be considered singing. if you do it wrong and you destroy your voice then i think it is not singing at that point.
The thing that counts against it for me is that there is generally no pitch or tone control. It's a scream. It's a vocal effect, it's a technique that's not easily mastered without destroying your vocal cords, but I kinda see why someone might not consider it singing.
@@mkall well that definition is broken right from the off. What's a lyric? How is it different from just a spoken word and why would you use it to define singing? I'd say many musical performances don't have discernible lyrics yet you and I would still say the performer was singing.
As for growling women, there comes Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy to mind. She used to do some of the heaviest growls, a true monster. There are perfect examples of this in the live versions of the song "We Will Rise".
This is the biggest WAIT FOR IT video of all time. I LOVE getting people with it. No one EVER has a clue what's coming and even after they hear it they think it's not what they just heard.

Weirdly I had the same reaction to Pulp Fiction the first time I saw it; I totally relate to her saying, "I've never laughed so hard in astonishment..."
I mean, when you start to laugh, you definitely genuinely in shock, confused, and amazed .. cuz that what i did too 😅... I was laughing, got tears in my eyes, and kept repeating it...
That's the entire reason I started following her to start with. There's a million reactors on youtube, but she not only explains the technical aspects very well, and has an amazing ear, but I just love watching her face as she COMPLETELY geeks out on the music, regardless of the genre.
I had a friend in the early 90s who was the singer for a death metal band, she sang like this, she was also a trained opera singer. It's pretty amazing when people explore what their voices can do.
It's fantastic you recognize the way she screams is healthy and it's intent for intensity. Please check out "Teacher Teacher" - Jinjer Or for something new "Awakening" - Unleash the Archers
Not Awakening. That is especially instrumental-wise impressive. Better Unleash The Archers - Tonight we Ride. The strength of Floor plus a neat fry. ^^
Every female I've ever shown Tati to has said the exact same thing, "I didn't know a female could do that" - they also seem very empowered learning that fact. So much respect for her xox
I love how everyone of us is here for one reason... Because we know what to expect, but it never gets old to see. And right on cue, they all drop their guard around Tatiana. Reaction videos: Oh she has such a lovely voice, so calm and gentle. [5 seconds later] Reaction videos: WHAT THE F- [throws headphones and flies out of chair] All of us: [grinning and chuckling like idiots]
This may sound weird, but when I’m having a bad day, THIS REACTION VIDEO IS WHAT I WATCH!!! Your face, totally locked in, and then almost looks like you’re gonna cry, but just roll out of it and start laughing, and right back to being amazed. When I’m having a bad day, that’s what I need to do…
I watched Jinjer years ago in a small club in Frankfurt, Germany. When they just started to become a bit more popular. It was a really small club. Tatiana just walked by me right in front of me. I'm 5'11. Tatiana's height goes to about my shoulders. That lady is like 5 feet smol. Never underestimate the small ones. Holy cow.
Is "screaming" considered "singing"? Unequivocally, yes. It can vary in pitch, tone, timbre, volume, range, etc. Generated from the same resources and tools as more "traditional singers". Though application, implementation, and construction may be a bit different. There's distincf technique involved to generate not only the sounds but also to preserve the instrument and to do it safely. There's no way it can't objectively be considered singing, even if it's not someone's preference.
@@vl.Merrow As most of the male growlers do pitch down their voice and add it as a harmony on an additional track. I don't like it, music should stay real in a sense. They have great vocals on their own.

This was the first reaction I saw by you and I always remembered you saying you didn't know a woman could sing like this. I'm back now after seeing you doing vocal training to growl and I'm so impressed by how you jumped right in and embraced this genre. Major props. 👊
Would be so fun to see what her first reaction to this song would have been like if it happened now in 2023 after she's had so much more experience and interest in metal.
Vlad is the drummer Roman is the guitarist Eugene is the bassist Tatiana is the vocalist Next reaction you do you can look at the lyrics before hand because she writes like a poet.
If you wrote "Tatiana" then you should write full names of the other band members: Vladislav, Roman, Evgenii (Eugene - is not russian/ukrainian name because if transliterate Eugene to russian it will sound like "yougen" which is definitely not Evgenii).
It is absolutely amazing to re-watch this in late 2023, knowing that by now you've not only interviewed Tati herself but also have checked out other metal artists and collaborated with Will Ramos et al and are truly familiar with harsh vocals.
Elizabeth, I saw Jinjer live in concert in March, in Brisbane,Australia, (just before everything went into lockdown) and in 5 decades of attending concerts, their's was in my top 5 of all time. Tatiana is a powerhouse and her clean vocals, sublime !!
If I still did crowds, Jinjer would be one I'd like to see. I've seldom seen performers who clearly enjoy what they do that much (also the 5 decades club)
Yeah, I saw them in Melbourne this year, we got very lucky with their tour coming just before the lockdown. 30+ years going to live music and Jinjer is easily in my top 3 metal gigs of all time.
Look up a false fold growl. I've been trying to train myself to do this shit and it's so much training. You can really fuck yourself up if you go about it the wrong way. But I'm pretty sure Tati uses false fold growls.
I'm fairly ok at it, and iv been at it for 10+ years. You gotta really like practicing, and also realize these sounds are amplified by mics. Tati is not too awfully loud without one. And yes this is false vocal folds.
I have meny mates who always buy the more fashionable headphones for mega money and I always tell them the sound quality of even a cheap pair of dj headphones blows them out the water and all I ever hear back is but these are beats or these are wireless ear buds

@@philproffitt8363 Can confirm once tried 300 dollar Beats headphones and the sound quality especially in metal music was awful compared to my 200 or so dollar Sony headphones
Tatiana is for sure one of the most impressive vocalists of the last 50 years. The Pisces video does just barely scratch her abilities. She is an amazing live performer, she is an expression powerhouse, she is an awesome, intelligent lyricist, esp. great for writing in a second language. Her stage presence is one of a kind, she comes on stage and owns it before even singing one note. The range of her skills and genre experience is mindblowing. Never go wrong listening to Jinjer. Did I mention, that the whole band is pure awesomeness? Go on and review at least one more Jinjer song to see the range ...
In an interview they said that there were some added overdubs. The duality of the vocals fits in with the Pisces theme. The sign of Pisces has 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, so she is of 2 minds regarding the situation she is in. Behind all of the sea and fishing metaphors, you can see that although she wants love, she is "skittish" due to past bad experiences suffered at the hands of "callous men" and "handsome butchers". One reactor said she reminded him of his ex-wife - before and after marriage.
This reaction is just a lovely timecapsule. Now in hindsight we now know that harsh vocals are just another tool in the vocal arsenal for rock/metal singers. Once you see Tatiana, Floor and Alissa using various degrees of fry and doing it day after day on tour... you realize how super talented they are.
A singer is as much a musician as anyone, with their voice being the instrument. So using fry screams and the like to sound like that isn't really any different than a guitar player using extreme distortion or a drummer using unusual accessories to drum on for a specific sound. So yes, this is singing.
exactly the poit i allways make , besides..... if that wasnt considered not singingthen we would also have to excludethe hu with the mongolian throat singing
I don't think that qualifies it as singing, but singing is one of a range of vocal techniques, under which you also find things like fry screaming, rapping, throat singing, false chord growls, etc. The voice is the instrument, but singing is a subset of what the instrument can do. Nothing in that precludes the inherent musicianship of vocalists.
It takes a lot of technique to do it correctly and healthy, just based on that it would be crazy to discount it from singing. I know not the best reason. :-) but clearly part of knowing what to do with your instrument and how to use it.
Watching people go into this cold never gets tired. lol I'm convinced there's anatomical gifts at play here too. Obviously Tati is super skilled, but of all the women who have great growls, she's the only one you could mistake for a man. It's remarkable.
ruclips.net/video/ZrFTR9fucr8/видео.html first time i heard this song had no idea it was a girl until towards the end. she sounds like a lot of dudes even when she does the high pitch screaming
@Darth Xero Angela Gossow! Nice, had forgotten about her - here's Arch Enemy performing Ravenous live, looks like an awesome gig: ruclips.net/video/mQaMh7WO-80/видео.html
I've lost track of how many reaction videos of this song that I've watched JUST to see the person's expression/shock/disbelief when Tatiana starts to growl.
Well, as others have suggested, try Jinjer - "Teacher, Teacher" for the full on effect of how she can change her vocal on the spot within the same sentence in the song for just a few words, and then back again. Most vocal coaches say that it's extremely difficult to do, but she does it no problem. For another band with similar vocals, try Arch Enemy - "The Eagle Flies Alone" or "War Eternal."
Yep, this. Perennial live as the best example of her vocal abilities and Who Is Gonna Be the One live as the best example of different growling modes, including extra low. As Elizabeth is not a metal listener, those two would be the only ones I would recommend just for pure Tati's voice analysis. Leave all the other songs for metal fans.
Well I think they are just saying to do it properly. Elizabeth is acknowledging that Tatiana is doing it properly. So I don't think she's necessarily saying the opposite of what they're saying.
I wonder what Zach Ansley would say about this, he did so harshly critique other vocal coaches who said growling/fry screaming can be done in a healthy way... my gut tells me there needs to be a way to do it properly, but Zach is also very convincing in his reasoning here(and his approach to singing is similarly scientific): ruclips.net/video/kSuSlTW1PRo/видео.html
i agree if she was a lay person but she is supposed to be a vocal coach so she can be surprised (as everybody would be when listening to Jinjer for the first time) but she should have been aware of the fact "that a human female can make a sound like that"
@@altohippiegabber Well, I think she's quite aware that the male vocal tract can produce fry/scream timbres. But it's rarer to find women that do it -- I'm not surprised she'd never heard anything like it. Besides this, she's a classical voice instructor; from my time at the conservatory, I can confirm that metal techniques are far from common in classical vocal pedagogy classes.

Last night i got to see Jinjer live, and they were absolutely mind blowing, and my wife actually got to speak to her after the show, which is awesome because my wife, Alina, is the vocalist of our band and from Belarus, which is close to where Jinjer is from. I cant express enough how incredible they were!

This is probably the best reaction I’ve seen of this vid, instantly made her say “i have to go try this now.” Shows women have a place in metal and it’s awesome to see that she is an inspiration to aspiring female vocalists!
Thanks so much, AshenCorvum. This is such a sweet comment!

I've watched a few of these Pisces reaction videos, and while most people love it, the women seem to be inspired and excited, but a few of the men say it's not real, at least at first. It figures. Sigh. Well, I for one am inspired (but not to try this at home).
AshenCorvum there would be a lot more place for women in metal if they’ didn’t want to be in the front every time...
I've seen Jinger live. Tatiana can ABSOLUTELY do all of this live, without any effects. Watching your reaction to her skills is amazing; the stunned looks you give as she shows off her (admittedly amazing) range and skills are absolutely charming.
How do you know they aren’t using effects? Whether it’s not peddle-triggered or the sound engineer adding it?
I saw her live - she does sing for real
@@nikabay7190 right… but it will be going through effects etc. everyone who sings live has reverb put on right? So makes sense can just add a bit of distortion. Might not be a peddle on the stage, but easy to do on sound desk. I’m not suggesting she’s miming
@@mrbejam You can hear when a voice has distortion. She doesn't use distortion at all. Not live and not any albums

YAS. That's where she's at her best.
I have used this song at multiple parties, it brings people to tears every time.
As a metalhead, I do believe screaming and growling counts as singing. The amount of practice it takes to have that ability takes longer than you thing. To be able to scream or growl healthily, without damaging your vocal chords takes a lot of time and patience to get to that point.
Exactly like that 👌🏻🤘🏼
coming from the same place, i think only when you do screaming correctly it should be considered singing. if you do it wrong and you destroy your voice then i think it is not singing at that point.
The thing that counts against it for me is that there is generally no pitch or tone control. It's a scream.
It's a vocal effect, it's a technique that's not easily mastered without destroying your vocal cords, but I kinda see why someone might not consider it singing.
@@lmaoroflcopter if there are lyrics it is singing
@@mkall well that definition is broken right from the off.
What's a lyric? How is it different from just a spoken word and why would you use it to define singing?
I'd say many musical performances don't have discernible lyrics yet you and I would still say the performer was singing.
Vocal coaches reacting Jinjer is basically it's own genre at this point, and it's absolutely hilarious.

Most people's reactions be like: GOSH, OMG Stunned silence. Elizabeth; bursts out laughing, like a kid who's just been told that the ice-cream van is outside, and you can go get the biggest cone you like. It's this totally infections enthusiasm, which make you come back to the channel.
Weirdly I had the same reaction to Pulp Fiction the first time I saw it; I totally relate to her saying, "I've never laughed so hard in astonishment..."
Yes and the flavor of the day is Caramel Jalapeno Liver...
That's one of the reasons why she's my favorite RUclips reactor. She just geeks out on everything and it's so infectious.
Could we get the name of her band?
It's fantastic you recognize the way she screams is healthy and it's intent for intensity.

This was explained perfectly. What a great comment.
It brings to mind some people who consider Dimash to be nothing but a screamer, which is so wrong to me.

Perennial Live from Wacken 2019.
I second this
Vlad is the drummer
Roman is the guitarist
Eugene is the bassist
Tatiana is the vocalist
Next reaction you do you can look at the lyrics before hand because she writes like a poet.
If you wrote "Tatiana" then you should write full names of the other band members: Vladislav, Roman, Evgenii (Eugene - is not russian/ukrainian name because if transliterate Eugene to russian it will sound like "yougen" which is definitely not Evgenii).
IMO Jinjer is the perfect mix of a female vocalist and absolute aggression, also the band has wicked riffs.
Oh you like opeth? How about a twist on that with slamming female vocals? YES PLEASE
Saw them in Canberra, she's ridiculous in person, youtube live footage doesn't even begin to touch her phenomenal abilities.
i was there too was epic
If I still did crowds, Jinjer would be one I'd like to see. I've seldom seen performers who clearly enjoy what they do that much (also the 5 decades club)
Yeah, I saw them in Melbourne this year, we got very lucky with their tour coming just before the lockdown. 30+ years going to live music and Jinjer is easily in my top 3 metal gigs of all time.
OMG I cant wait for this. This a band that is extremely talented and has gone under the radar of waaaay too many people
I wish I could growl like Tatiana, and I am a grown male
Don't worry a voice coach will tell you it's a scream not a growl
Look up a false fold growl. I've been trying to train myself to do this shit and it's so much training. You can really fuck yourself up if you go about it the wrong way. But I'm pretty sure Tati uses false fold growls.
There's a WikiHow for you, man.
Dont we all...
I'm fairly ok at it, and iv been at it for 10+ years. You gotta really like practicing, and also realize these sounds are amplified by mics. Tati is not too awfully loud without one. And yes this is false vocal folds.

One of the best female leads in the world. Glad I'm here for the first run
"It sounds like she has the ability to go to a more aggressive tone..."
And here. We.... Go!
Tati has said she doesn’t use fry..not sure how but just wanted to let you know
False cordx for sure
Out of all the "reactions" and "pro's," this was the best break-down of the the whole production for Jinjer. Nice job.
"She has the ability to go to a more aggressive tone"
Well, you weren't wrong!
A singer is as much a musician as anyone, with their voice being the instrument. So using fry screams and the like to sound like that isn't really any different than a guitar player using extreme distortion or a drummer using unusual accessories to drum on for a specific sound.
So yes, this is singing.
Exactly, it requires proper technique and it has a place inside the genre.
exactly the poit i allways make , besides..... if that wasnt considered not singingthen we would also have to excludethe hu with the mongolian throat singing
@@galadballcrusher8182 That's a very interesing point.
Your expressions are priceless! And super cute because they're genuine
Watching people go into this cold never gets tired. lol
I'm convinced there's anatomical gifts at play here too. Obviously Tati is super skilled, but of all the women who have great growls, she's the only one you could mistake for a man. It's remarkable.

Is there a live Teacher, Teacher - the only one I've seen is live footage synced to the album track.
"Who is gonna be the one" live and "Perennial" live. I'm just gonna leave this here.
👌🙏
Don't forget Just Another as well.
Pit of Conciousness and On the Top live in Kiev are also really good ones
Yeah both are amazing
4 years later this reaction is still priceless
I was happy that you noticed how talented the band is. Her skills are so impressive that a lot of people miss that.
Every other vocal coach: "Be careful doing this, it may hurt your voice".
Elizabeth: "Yeah, she's not doing anything unhealthy".
Elisabeth knows whats going on and is not as biased
This is true. That being said... be careful when you try this at home, kids. ;-)
And with that they mean to warn you not to try it on your own. Smart, because people definitely try it on their own.
“What is happening?” “I didn’t know that a human female can make a sound like that....” Those are the realist reactions ever 🤣
i agree if she was a lay person but she is supposed to be a vocal coach so she can be surprised (as everybody would be when listening to Jinjer for the first time) but she should have been aware of the fact "that a human female can make a sound like that"
@@altohippiegabber Well, I think she's quite aware that the male vocal tract can produce fry/scream timbres. But it's rarer to find women that do it -- I'm not surprised she'd never heard anything like it. Besides this, she's a classical voice instructor; from my time at the conservatory, I can confirm that metal techniques are far from common in classical vocal pedagogy classes.
