    Just hired a e MTB today and went for a good ride with my daughter, I am an amputee above the knee and the bike made me feel normal,was great to be able to put it in turbo mode on the ride back as there was a head wind to contend with👍

    Common issue with this bike, is you suddenly hear a rattle coming from the upper battery area. Take the battery off and wiggle the retaining bolt/latch that locks the battery in place. Check to see if there is movement where the key is inserted. If there is, it means the locking mechanism is coming loose and needs tightened up. On my bike I used a T-15 torx bit to loosen the four screws holding the plastic panel in which surrounds the locking latch. Once the screws are removed, there is a slot at the bottom of the plastic panel. Insert a flat screwdriver into this slot and lever upwards and out to release the plastic panel. Put a bit of tape over the screwdriver head to avoid scratching the paint. Once the plastic panel is removed, you should see two screws holding the lock mechanism in place. Tighten these screws using a small star screwdriver to tighten up the lock mechanism. Replace the pladtic panel again and screw back in place. Happy rattle free biking again.

    Thank you so much for your review! I just purchased this exact bike and due to the cold and ice here in sunny New Jersey, I've not had a chance to test it. I was a little concerned about it's smaller motor but your input has me convinced this will do nicely. I ordered a Box Three Prime 9 W-Wide groupset and should have that swapped out within a week. It was in stock at Box Components and priced right...$209. Given the 50 tooth cog, I expect I will be able to tackle the steeper stuff without too much trouble! Thanks again and be safe and happy biking!

      Here is Shropshire the original drivetrain that came with my bike proved to be it’s weakest link and it was the clutchless rear deraileur that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I upgraded to a clutched 10 speed XT rear end and I couldn’t be happier.

    Great review from the other side of the pond. Here in the UK, this bike is sold as the Giant Fathom E+3 29er Pro and I’ve had mine since 2019. Unlike you the first thing I upgraded was the front Suntour spring suspension entry forks (to semi pro air Rock Shox Judy TK Silver) and the brakes and rotors (to Guide R four potters). Then came the dropper post and a new saddle (Selle SMP TRK). Currently my bike is at my LBS having the drivetrain sorted to a 10speed 11-42 XT from the stock 9 speed. I have to agree with you that this is a great bike to upgrade when funds allow. I must have a look at upgrading the stem and handlebars though but these will have to wait.

    I agree that this is a great value on/off road ebike. I bought mine in the middle of August and have almost 1400 miles on it.
    Immediately I installed a dropper post and upgraded the grips, bars, seat, and pedals.
    Week 3 of ownership I installed a Manitou Machete, wow, nice fork, best I've ridden.
    Next I'll upgrade the drive train, as I do want one lower gear than stock ... I can only get up steep stuff out of the saddle with stock gearing.

      This bike is more suited to trails than commuting. The 2.4 wide tyres will slow you down a bit, and keeping up the cadence in the higher gears to have the motor assistance for a long time will be tiresome I would think. If it’s a city commute it should be fine, but if it’s flat roads for a few miles, I would try before you buy.

    What these heavy hardtails desperately need, when equipped with coil forks, is an upgraded "gold valve" inserts(that you find on motorcycles that have non-adjustable coil forks). They allow fork oil to be used in conjunction with a higher spring rate for a shock/spring design (needed for often double the bike weight, plus a typical consumer of this bike that is also heavier). Or an upgrade to a serious Fox type fork. It would give proper motorbike handling, a night & day difference. But the price point fork is the design weakness of this type of E-bike.

    ......Great vid, thanks!!! I bought one, and I love it! ...............How did you route that internal dropper cable? I found one guy on youtube remove the motor and route the cable under it. Your installation was edited, but I see you fiddling the cable housing with the motor in place. Did you not remove the motor? Did you route the cable above the motor?

    • @johnchristopher5075
      @johnchristopher5075 3 года назад

      Trust me on this, it’s better to route the cable under the motor. I learned the hard way when my LBS choose the alternative easier route forcing the cable to do a 45 degree turn into the upright which ended up crimping the cable. Now my dropper works as smooth as silk!

    Hi, hoping you can answer a question I have regarding wattage figures within the Giant app. The bike is sold as the Fathom E+3 29 with the Syncdrive Sport motor in the UK. I use the Giant app to record my rides as its a few years since I rode a bike, and wanted to compare recordings to view any improvement in my fitness.
    Most rides consist of tarmac trails, some off road woodland stuff and main roads to get to my ‘fun areas’. There are a few steep hills and when checking back the app after my rides, I noticed in the ‘Power’ section, that my maximum wattage figures were around 300-320 per ride. I’m getting up to around 20-25 mph on some flat road sections, but it’s a heavy bike and I cannot keep that speed up for long as the motor cuts out at 15 mph.
    On my last ride I really went for it on a long flat road to see how fast I could go. I managed to get into 9th gear, but when I checked the wattage figures for that section of road, it showed 538 watts ! Surely this must be wrong ? The motor is supposed to cut out at 15 mph ! It was a standing start in power level 4 and really hammered it up the gears while my legs were just a blur. Surely that wattage figure must be wrong ? Hope you can shed some light on my warp like figures. Cheers.

    • @KillerRaptorr
      @KillerRaptorr 4 месяца назад

      Most will do roughly 20-30miles of max range out on trails on the dirt. The max ETA range is based on smooth roads with no hills at LOW level power settings. Mainly the rider is powering more then the bike itself. So when you're on High power and ripping up the off-road that range normally goes down 80-90%.
      Never expect any so called pre-built E-bike to do over 50miles off-road on high power with mainly the motor working most of the time.

      The whole POINT of a budget ebike is to allow people to get into emtb just like he SAID. Most people will prob upgrade over time. Much betterto get a bike at $2,500, ride NOW and upgrade later, than to not have a bike at all because you’re saving up another $2,000 to buy a bike with better components. You gotta remember most people don’t have $5,000+ to spend on a BIKE

    $2600 for 50nm torque 🤷‍♂️ it's a good looking bike though.

      compared to the other leading bikes with 'Mid' drive systems. You're looking at a 'Cheap' ability unless you snag a Hyper E-Ride from walmart. Most mid-drive bike-shop bikes will be around 4000-5000$ for good systems. So this is 'Cheap' from a bike-shop-bike system. Compared to what you'd find from other stuff.

    is the dropper post internal? how did you route it?

      It is internal and I had to remove the motor unit cover in order to route the cable. Definitely tricky but it can be done.

      This is what most people in the weird world of mountain biking know as a 'Bike Shop bike' Vs the other kind of bikes people commonly refer to as 'Department store bikes' like say the Hyper E-ride.
      In this topic the Bike-Shop bike here is a rather cheap version of a Bike shop bike for a E-bike. Plus a Mid-drive for that fact.
      So in it's sense of the term for Bike-Shop-Bike budget version E-bike. Yes. As most standard bike-shop-bikes go for anywhere around 1000+ for standard non-e-bike versions. Since version without it's E-bike ability would be the cheapest at 500 but with old style V-brakes and likely higher with Discs.
