Back in the 80’s when I was a kid I lived in a homeless shelter across from the building where this video was shot. It's on LongIsland, Massachusetts (Not NY). Closed down buildings and cemeteries, there's even a crematorium. The only building where they had space for us was in the one that housed people with contagious disease. It was terrifying as a child. However I do remember having an amazing view of the fireworks on the 4th of July, and for that moment everything seemed ok.

I'm in love with Dropkick Murphys! I only started listening to them awhile back after my brother posted the Christmas video on FB and compared it to our family. haha
I was playing this at work and someone asked, "It's this the intro to Nitro Circus?" I had totally forgotten it was as I hadn't watched that show in the better part of a decade.
@XOmytubeXO I know how you feel. I was an irish DSS'R from the age of 13-18. and everything in the song rings true to me. I give serious credit to Dop Kick murphy's for addressing those of us who;ve been in that situation. It acutally inspires me to volunteer for those in similar situations. God Bless those with broken homes and broken heats..just know it can and will get better.
This was a major issue in Canada until quite recently. Now we have something called Trauma Informed Practice and they actually make a bit of effort to keep families together.
Love the Catholic imagery in their videos the weird thing about being an Irish Catholic, we're simply going to mass was a symbol of resistance, is even those that drift away and drift towards agnosticism the church still shapes the way we think and we tend to hold it and its symbols n reverence even if we don't really believe anymore
I couldn't remember the name of this band so I typed in "Irish sounding rock band that uses banjo" and I still couldn't find them. Luckily I remembered something about "Murphy" in the name.
How's not to love this! That music, that drive, those lyrics! That's enough for me to get so pumped to take on Superman! (ok, not Superman, but at least Steven Seagal in an eating competition)
Just spent 3 weeks in Florida. When we started descending into Boston on the flight back, I had this CRANKED on my mp3 player. Got off the plane and it was cold and gray, and I was never so happy to be home!
Irish-American in this case, but they do try to keep up musical heritage traditions. A friend of mine from Ireland has pointed out that they've grown quite a following there, and nobody gives a shit that Americans are contributing goatloads to the world of Celt-punk

I love listening to the Dropkick Murphy's, you ought a make a music video of Russell Crowe in the movie Cinderella as Braddock the famous Irish boxer, it would be awesome!
I told my wife the name of this song, and she was like "massachusetts is a commonwealth." She also dated a guy who played with DM (Desi Quealy's brother if you pay attention to DM lyrics) but pretty much any girl who lived in Boston in the 90s did - they had 1000 members. Not sure if he was a full member or just played with them on some records, but she has great memories of his mother who was super nice.
