Thank you! Check out Banff Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Marmot Basin too - incredible scenery! I’m hoping to ski NE soon. What would you say are the top 5 ski resorts there? Sincerely, James Duke
Hi, Thankyou for a great video showing every run, looks amazing! We are from Australia and only skied here and New Zealand so Blue runs for us! Is it really cold when skiing up those top peaks we have only experienced -10 degrees was it -20 up there, we are thinking of coming in beginning of January as well. Thankyou for any information. I know we will have to hire snow pants & tops, maybe neck & balaclava too do you recommend for us Queenslanders?
@@Kerrie-f3o Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. Typically the weather is 0 C to minus 10 C. Occasionally, the - 20 & -30 does settle in. I almost always were the same things regardless of temperature. Good base layer, snow pants, same on top: good base layer and I add a down vest under my ski jacket most days. If it’s really cold, I add an additional down jacket. Almost always I use hand warmers in my gloves, and if it’s really cold, I use two pair of hand warmers. Hope you have a great trip! There’s a lot of beginner & intermediate skiing at Sun Peaks!
Thank you! I have never skied Whistler, so I can’t offer a comparison. Sun Peaks does have a lot of terrain with a great mix of green, blue and black runs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Our family LOVES Sun Peaks. Not very much extreme terrain - it's a really good intermediate - low advanced mountain. But best of all - no crowds. So much terrain - you get off the chair and see nobody until you reach the bottom again.... Can't get that in WHistler....
Thank you! How’s your skiing this winter? We had a good time at Kicking Horse, and Panorama - but are now camping in 20 to 30s below zero in Radium Hot Springs waiting for the sub-zero cold front to pass before heading to Fernie. Hope all is well Cody! Sincerely, James Duke
Your videos really are getting so clean. I needed my passport, and it just came in. I'm going to Big Sky next week, Utah next month and hopefully Colorado or Andorra in March. I'm thinking about mapping out all the iKon pass resorts to keep up the videos. I've only skied Lookout Pass this year, and the conditions weren't worthy of filming. Glad to see you're hitting Canada again. I was supposed to be in Fernie this weekend, but the cold...
@@bluebirdski Thanks Cody! We will be passing through Coeur d’lane after Fernie on our way to Boise. I’ll let you know if we can meet up! I think you should hit Andorra if possible - we are in love with European ski resorts and sights! Austria and Italy are our next stop later in January-February.
There are 139 runs at Sun Peaks, not 193 as reported. Also there is skiing on both sides of the valley on two mountains, Tod and Morrisey and 2 ridges, Sundance and Orient.
Destination skiing is a massive weather gamble. Boilerplate hardpack, fog, bucketing rain, & obscene cold all threaten the picture perfect powder paradise featured in the shiny internet brochure. RUclipsrs upselling every single powder day while ignoring the gasp-inducing lift lines, lift ticket prices, & accommodation fees.
So true that future weather is unpredictable! It’s been a tough start of the 23-24 ski season with low snowpack in North America, but the snow is finally accumulating.
@@YouDecideIsItWorthIt if you're a pow hound, then it's better to go full cat or Heli, rather than risk the eccentricities of local resort pow panic or boilerplate with fog.
I have learned to book last minute, and I just head to where the snow is good. I pay more for flights, hotel and lift tickets but it's a big chunk of money either way. I don't mind paying a bit extra to chase good snow
Dude, there's this thing called the internet that you're using right now & various maps of everything are right at your fingertips. I recommend the FATMAP for scoping ski resort info.
Going to sun peaks this February '25. from Australia. Thanks for excellent video showing what I'm in for. Cheers, all the best.
@@craighardie5373 Wishing for you the best time ever! Thanks, James

Dude.. I’m skiing here next year in feb and I can’t wait!
That’s awesome! Every time I’ve skied Sun Peaks it’s been fun.

Sun Peaks is SO MUCH BETTER than Whistler! You won't regret going to SP, they are chalk and cheese :)

Have you used Open Snow for forecasts? One year I was chasing powder and got 23 days with 12 inches or more.
Also what is the timestamp it opens and closes at?
The lifts open at various times. Some open at 8:15, some at 8:30, most all are open 9:00-3:30, and a few stay open until 4:00 pm.
Sun peaks resort has all the opening times on their web site
It would be more helpful if you could show the location of the resort on a map at the beginning of the video.
Thank you for the comment and suggestion! I will try to include that information moving forward. Sincerely, James Duke
