In my opinion Rush are only now recieving the respect and recogition they have always deserved. I have seen many many bands over the last 35 years, several repeatedly, not to mention bought hundreds of albums. Rush is the ONLY one that has never dissapointed
I'm from the US and I hated USA for Africa!!! We Are The World... Get over yourselves! That much inflated ego in one room is an embarrassment. I like this one better and it's got Ged!! He's better than all the USA for Africa "stars"combined! :) :)
@@denmac19 yep Neil young is very well known and successful. Most consecutive gold albums of all time in history in order. Beetles, Rolling Stones, and third? Yes, it’s rush . I know, I can’t believe it either lol.
Love Geddy and rush but I’m not sure he’s by far the most successful person there. Neil young, light foot and even David Foster all are right up there with him. He’s still awesome though and I’d take some early rush anytime !!!
Well I know that Rush is still today a hugh donator to various countries across the world. After Tour and living costs are covered, a large chunk of their tour income goes towards various charities supporting third world countries
You're absolutely right. In pop culture terms Rush is bigger than they've ever been by a huge factor. Their new album has garnered rave reviews and they've won countless awards the last few years. They're as "current" as they've ever been and it's laughable to suggest otherwise.
@xxxx15us .... actually, there were 3: We Are The World by U.S.A. For Africa, this one (Tears Are Not Enough by Northern Lights), and the original inspiration: Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid. But I DO agree, this one was the more obscure one, for obvious reasons: our quiet, unassuming Canadian way! I liked this the one best though... I always found the American one to be too arrogant ("WE are the world").... yeah, sure you are! lol
8 years later. No kidding. Triumph is always overlooked. Rik is absolutely the most underrated rockstar. Sings and plays like a God. What a crap song. Tough to watch. Rik isn't singing but Paul Schaffer is. Makes sense.
@kkkkristen100 It seems like there were 100 of these "let's all get together and sing for the poor people" songs made in the 80s. This was probably one of the more relatively obscure ones. Still interesting though. Glad you liked it!
I know you don't like idea of the song existing, but I am pointing out that SCTV somewhat supported this. Also, who would make fun of people trying to do a genuine attempt to support a third world country, unless it was obviously no body cared, that would be kind of mean and un-supportive to the cause. Also, what are you talking about for has-beens, Geddy Lee is still at the top of his game, Neil Young is still a highly-regarded artist, and many others too.
@@toobmaniac I have no idea who that is either. I know just about everyone else there but not Kim. Neither have I heard of Max Webster. Oh well. We can't know everyone, right?
Ho was this obscure???? It was huge in Canada, pretty sure it was on the We Are The World album. This interview is from the 45+ minute documentary that aired on CBC here in Canada, which the majority of Canadians watching tv at that time were viewing(back then there were 13 channels). Oh wait, I know why it is obscure.....because it is not American. I'm quite certain Rik Emmett(please look up spelling people) was not present. My fave benefit, the metal one called Hear'n Aid :), look into it
@einarabelc5 as good as the song is already ur right. if james labrie was in it it would instantly make this song 50 times better. geddy and james singing together would cause the creation of a whole new universe!!!! go rush and dream theater
They were ALL better than the American one! Our was just because Geldof did one and Michael Jackson said "I can't let HIM get all the attention" so he HAD to do one. "Do they know it's Christmas?" was a beautiful song.
I just remembered why I hated the eighties some much , as much as anyone can . This is as bad as we are the world . All of these people are “BIG FAT PHONES “ .
Really?? Gordon Lightfoot is crap? Bruce Cockburn? Burton Cummings, come on, for American Woman alone you can't put the man down, no matter how soppy some of his newer music is.Ronnie Hawkins?? I think I still hear Loverboy every time I turn on the tv. Just because someone is popular does not always mean they are good(for the record, Celine Dion is a talented singer, who I will never listen to), but also remember, just because you don't like someone does not make them crap

Such eloquence from Geddy Lee. A lovely interview.
Geddy Lee and a bunch of others mostly forgotten by time.
David Foster has always been one of my favorite pop music producers. I'm glad he did this song and the other charity single "Voices That Care".
Geddy Lee rules !!!

I didn't know Canada had its own "We Are The World". Strange what you learn just browsing RUclips.
thankfully, we don't. that's the yank song you're thinking of. usa have their own "tears are not enough."
And Great Britain has "Do They Know it's Christmas?" as well. So let's all celebrate peace and harmony by fighting over which song is better.
+JopestersWild LOL...."Stay hostile My Friends"!!!
This song is from US for Africa LP.
JopestersWild 😂😂😂😂😂 LMAAAOOOOO!!!

Neil should have played drums on the track like Phil Collins did on Do They Know It's Christmas.

Funny, both, especially Rush are selling more and are more popular than ever.
SCTV did do this justice, three members sang on this song.
The metal song for this effort is the best.
