HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- Actor and dancer Russ Tamblyn sat with our head researcher in 1995 to look back on his career as a child star and reflect on growing up while working in Hollywood. He also reflects on dating in the business, his friendships with Dean Stockwell, Robert Blake and Bobby Driscoll and not being a professional dancer during his early start.

He will be 90 years old at the end of this year 2024. Great actor. Riff was always my favorite character in the West Side Story film because of Russ Tamblyn's performance.
Heartbreaking about Bobby Driscoll. God bless him and Russ Tamblyn!
Love love love Russ. He doesn't disappoint, great hearing all of his stories. He seems very level headed and not big headed. Great to watch.
Russ Tamblyn seems like a decent person with good stories to tell. I like his acrobatic style of dancing and to be complimented by Fred Astaire, you can't get any better than that. Hope he's doing well after 26 years since this interview was done.
There's A western with him.... IN ONE OF THE BEST DANCING SCENES... He was FANTASTIC!! He Danced on shovels in it ..
@@cowboykelly6590 The Fastest Gun Alive was the western. Excellent shovel sequence!
What an absolutely delightful man
I never knew child stars could turn out so good
I would love to meet him
He is one of my all time favorites. Very talented actor. So good in The Haunting. Great personality too.
Loved him in the haunting! Best ghost story ever!
I was surprised the interviewer didn't mention The Haunting, because it was directed by Robert Wise - who also directed Tamblyn in West Side Story. Besides, it's one of the classiest horror films ever made.
Love, love, love Russ Tamblyn. Humble, professional, articulate. Did anyone else notice his deep cough? Hope he's okay. What a great guy.

Big big fan of Russ. Loved all his movies. My favorite movie of all time is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ... and West Side Story isn't far behind.
Russ Tamblyn was very good in "Peyton Place"(1957) as Norman Page and the '63 version of "The Haunting", directed by Robert Wise. Also, "Tom Thumb" was fun too. Father of Amber Tamblyn. Good interview!
“Tom Thumb… one of my smaller parts…” 😂 She didn’t get the joke, but it’s here for us for posterity!
so talented. a great example to everyone in films!
Great interview. I could listen to him for hours.
My late wife's ex was a school mate of Jill Wheeler, whose father was art director for "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," among other features. She got great insight into some of the goings on in Hollywood. Every time we watched the dance sequence in "Seven..." we were awed all over again at the skills displayed.
Incredible that at the time of this interview Russ Tamblyn (born 12/30/34) was 60 years old! He has fantastic vitality and charm. Thank you for posting.
HE STILL LOOKS GREAT!
Enjoyed his work - INCREDIBLE gymnastics and - WEST - SIDE - freakin' STORY.
Yep !! 7 - Brides for 7- Brothers ----- That was a SUPER , FANTASTIC , ENERGETIC DANCING !!!!!!!! Loved it ALL ! From , U.K.
You ARE an amazing dancer Russ!
Such a talented dancer
Amazing interview! I can't recall anyone sharing so many stories about Hollywood icons outside of an autobiography. Great job!
Great stories, great guy, great interview. Russ has been in many of my favorite movies, and I even think that his character in Twin Peaks was inspired.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers forever........
what an awesome guy!
He was terrific in the haunting!
Amazing to think he was in The 1949 Film SAMSON and DELILAH Liked him in Tom thumb.😎🏴
Great interview very likeable and honest nice
He's such a wonderful Hollywood icon, and a multi-talented performer. I was happy to see him return to the Twin Peaks show in 2017 for its third season. Today I was fondly recalling his work in Tom Thumb, a charming fantasy musical from 1958. It was a movie that used to air on local TV in the 1970s and 1980s once a year when I was a youth in New York.
One drawback to this footage: I can hear the interviewer here asking questions but she really ought to have been near a mic.
What a classic hope he is doing well this interview 25 years ago he always seems happy and healthy one of those actors you really hope the best for
You should listen to his interview with Alec Baldwin on Here’s the Thing podcast. He’s really interesting
@@elizabethchoymoorman6381 we’ll do thank you
The interviewer did an excellent job every question is interesting
Great TCM video
A great talent, but more than that, he seems like a lovely guy.
Fantastic talent!
My favorite Russ Tamblyn movie is Toho's War of the Gargantuas.
I was about to bring that up!
Now that's what I wanted him to talk about, working in other countries.
Tony and Cyd agreed to front a show I had written on `Stars`. George Raft was our pilot. Tony would drive me home (back to Hollywood) from their place in W. Hollywood after regular meetings. Sweet!
Loved Tom Thumb!!!
I loved the character Riff on west side story and when Russ played the cute Saul kid in Samson and Delilah 👍👍

1995 circa
@@Bigbadwhitecracker I know.....I did the math after I researched their ages on Wikipedia...but TCM should give us the dates for these interviews and save us the trouble 😉
I love that he had a cameo role in Drive (2011).
Russ is a Total Badass but Humble.
Russ Tamblyn is my favorite actor
My all time favorite film of Russ Tamblyn’s career is Frankenstein Conquers the World 2: The War of the Gargantuas in 1966
Always liked Russ, glad to see him being interviewed on CBS show
Excellent interview.
I remember going to see seven brides for seven brothers and tom thumb when i was about 13 i took my friend with me in those days you could stay in the cinenma all afternoon and watch the same film over and over in the cinema we went in at one and stayed till 9pm we were bothe dancing home jumping in the air singing bless her beautiful hide when there was my mother standing at the gate of my house in her slippers with her arms folded looking really cross and my friends mother the same i was grounded for a week nearly got my hide tanned when i see those films i always think of tht day thanks russ still dance around when those films come on the tv in the holidays ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Russ, I have fond memories of dancing with you at the old Topanga Corral. I was encouraged to dance & have fun with customers though I was the cocktail server. You probably knew me as "Sam". With Dean's recent passing, I'm thinking back on those days. Glad to see you & hear your stories. God bless you Russ.
Love Russ in “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm.” (1962) Great cast!
Copy that. I saw it in 1962.
He was great ! Dancer !
Lovely artist.
Dr. Jacoby - Twin Peaks. I really wanted to hear more about his post WSS career.
It also featured his 'West Side Story' castmate, Richard Beymer.
Outstanding interview. He comes across as a naturally charming person,
He's a mere 61 here but looks much younger!
I remember him in films with Doris Day too, Debra Paget and even Marilyn Monroe, or beautiful Eleanor Parker as on screen brother
His daughter, actor Amber Tamblyn, is wonderful!
yes.
I realize that the interview was primarily focused on his MGM-based musical film career (being a TCM presentation), but I would have also enjoyed listening to Tamblyn's take on his involvement in another JD-revolved production, "The Young Guns". (Yes, I'm being exceedingly and VERY obnoxiously biased on this one but, hey, what can I say and do? Familial obligations take priority. ;) )
Love Richard Brooks. Have a wonderful rare interview with Richard. Very dry sense of humour.
What a great chance to hear his stories. Loved it
wonderful interview!
Treasure interview ❤ Best of the Best Russ Tamblyn🕺🙌👋🙏❇️
Great dancer and actor really enjoyed his interview.❤️❤️
Always enjoyed his performance
I had the biggest crush on him!💖
I would love to hear an interview about War of the Gargantuas.
He would've said,kid, got outta e'rre! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😄😃😅😅😅😅😂🤣
Wish he had talked about making "The Haunting".
also great in the haunting
Joe Pasternak offered my Dad $5000 a week to sign with Metro (to write shtik) Dad said OK but for $10000 pw. SAdly it did not happen because Metro product changed. Comedy was out, social realism was in. A couple of remarkable films Dad wrote freelance. He contributed for instance to Judy Garland`s `Summer Stock`.
@Beyond Memory Old Movies Only difference if they had not (changed their mind) he would have been paid for it. As it stands, his contributions to films remain at what amounts to gross exploitation (slave labour) Uncredited he contributed large portions to the Marx Bros `Room Service`. Also Eddie Cantor `Kid Millions`..the scene where a mother age 19 is coddling her baby age 20 (Eddie Cantor) on her lap is pure Dad. He took this from having written and choreographed for Gypsy Rose Lee and June Havoc in vaudeville. Mrs. Holvig or `Mama Rose` used to talk to the chorus boys (teen-agers, some young men) while seated on her lap.
That interview was fantastic! Love him in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers & Payton Place.
Thank you TCM for these awesome interviews. I have missed some I'm sure and I can't find them in the playlists, does anyone know where I can go for missed interviews? Thanks! 🌼
Wasn't Russ's brother Larry Tamblyn the keyboard player in the Standells of "Dirty Water " fame? Circa: 1967?
I recall seeing his picture on the back of the album. No?
Yes, and Larry looks just like his brother.
great interview (:
I ADORE READING
The boy with the green hair with dean Stockwell. I love that movie!
Put on your thinking caps--another actor who appeared in The Boy With Green Hair, went on to a dreamy, creamy role in his career. Who is he? Good luck.
Awesome dancer!!!
I know from babylon 5. I didn't know about his career
I used to watch B5 and don't remember him. I remember Walter Koenig, but not Russ.
Glad theres still a few left like russ who were there in the golden age been in the business his whole life seems like a nice man could sit and talk to him for hours..
❤️
Was also chocki half man half shark in chris Elliott's all time classic cabin boy and the boring scientist In war of the gargantuans which you could tell he was there just for the money.
The Fastest Gun Alive, 1956
Twin Peaks
Who saw him and his daughter Amber in Django Unchained?
He was really good in Kidnapped with Peter Finch
4:31 this is a great spencer tracy story
10:45 parental abuse upon bobby driscoll
at recess, I went to my dressing room...so funny!
It’s Dr Jacobi
Rest in peace Liam neeson
West side story forever.
What ever happened to male interviewers ?
I thought that was him in the boy with green hair 2 cutie saw him in quantum leap as well as a womanizer .
Dr. Amp
Not bad for a non dancer.
Too bad they skipped THE HAUNTING and later career
i don't know what she looks like - the interviewer - but her voice ought not to be voiced over often.
Yeah but... talk about War of the Gargantuas and how you treated the entire Japanese cast and crew like crap.
??? What. ??? Oh Bummer, I hope not .
That slurping sucking air thing he does is ANNOYING!
Dont forget War of the Gargantuas and Dracula vs Frankenstein, i like Russ but unfortunately he's a bit of a leftist kook but he is a product of hollywood so its not all his fault
This TCM interviewer is awful, sorry. No creative questions. Nasal voice. PLEASE TCM, please.
