  • Actor and dancer Russ Tamblyn sat with our head researcher in 1995 to look back on his career as a child star and reflect on growing up while working in Hollywood. He also reflects on dating in the business, his friendships with Dean Stockwell, Robert Blake and Bobby Driscoll and not being a professional dancer during his early start.

Russ Tamblyn seems like a decent person with good stories to tell. I like his acrobatic style of dancing and to be complimented by Fred Astaire, you can't get any better than that. Hope he's doing well after 26 years since this interview was done.

He's such a wonderful Hollywood icon, and a multi-talented performer. I was happy to see him return to the Twin Peaks show in 2017 for its third season. Today I was fondly recalling his work in Tom Thumb, a charming fantasy musical from 1958. It was a movie that used to air on local TV in the 1970s and 1980s once a year when I was a youth in New York.

@Beyond Memory Old Movies Only difference if they had not (changed their mind) he would have been paid for it. As it stands, his contributions to films remain at what amounts to gross exploitation (slave labour) Uncredited he contributed large portions to the Marx Bros `Room Service`. Also Eddie Cantor `Kid Millions`..the scene where a mother age 19 is coddling her baby age 20 (Eddie Cantor) on her lap is pure Dad. He took this from having written and choreographed for Gypsy Rose Lee and June Havoc in vaudeville. Mrs. Holvig or `Mama Rose` used to talk to the chorus boys (teen-agers, some young men) while seated on her lap.
