I guess everyone already knows Kenny said in an interview that in Nashville terms they were "roadhot" from doing so many shows just prior. Letterman was clueless that he had great men on his stage! My heroes for sure. 🎶🐒
Yeah..sure. Letterman has had Marty Stuart on his show many times - and you figure Letterman keeps having Marty Stuart on the show because Letterman is clueless. Sounds more like you're the one that's clueless.
I saw an interview with Kenny Vaughn where they discussed this performance. Letterman’s band watched the first song during sound check from side stage. By the second song they were all on top of them in amazement. Letterman’s guitar player couldn’t believe Kenny and Marty don’t use effects pedals. Straight into their amps. Incredible musicians.
My wife didn’t know she liked country music until i took her to see Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives. Now we’ve seen them 3 times and counting. Among the best bands I’ve ever seen!
You would not believe the amount of friends and family I have that say exactly what you did here! My pops is a southern rocker/bluesman, my Pap is a bluegrass picker, my mom grew up on 70’s pop like Fleetwood Mac, my brothers and I grew up punks playing in hardcore bands but still liked all kinds of traditional American music because of our great grandparents, grand parents, and parents. Marty Stuart is one of few bands we will all go to see and absolutely love and have a blast! I always tell people when they ask me what the best/loudest rock n roll show I ever went to was and I reply “hands down Marty Stuart, and Dwight Yoakam!”
I have to admit that I didn’t start off as a country music fan but, slowly it began to sink in that these guys are some of the best musicians on the planet. They also share the spotlight willingly with each other. America’s greatest export, in my opinion.
I've been playing since I was a kid. Sometimes I think I'm getting pretty good. Then I watch Marty and Cousin' Kenny, and think- why bother. These guys put the pro in professional
Marty and his band (the boys) are national treasures - classic American country music artists and they play so well it's stunning. AND they dress up for the part like in the good old days when country music first came into being. As a former country piano player, all I can say is their musicianship is among the best of the best. We're looking at thousands of hours of practice; add in the fact Marty has been a music prodigy since his youth. Thanks for posting this video....a great pick-me-up during times like we are experiencing today.
Hi. I just wanted to say that i agree so much with everything you said. These guys are true and talented musicians. A treasure, as you said. I myself play the guitar and I,m amazed at how they could reach that level of proficiency (hard work, talent.. and some other ingredients). Anyway, I liked what you said about this horrible virus and how some of us run to music for shelter. I certainly do. Keep safe and best wishes from Europe!
@@ferpirata76 Thanks Fernando for your comments! This is the vitality that is missing in country music today. Shame the Hollywood types got control of our music. Thanks to Marty, Kenny and company for keeping it burning hot.
These boys threw it down🤙🏾..I can only imagine Dave’s Band Lookin at them like “WoW”Good ole country with a couple screamin Teles and old classic amps..Didn’t hear or see one effects pedal..Just pure Tele Country Twang.LoudLove..🔊🔊🔊💜💜💜
To all the country stations across this country this ladies and gentlemen is what you should be playing. The other country music your playing is not country. Man I’m still trying to catch my breath.
Marty Stuart is one of the most gracious, sincere, and genuinely nice people in country music...And he is crazy talented. What's not to like? Even his televangelist hairdo gives us something to talk about, in one way or another...LOL...Just pickin' Marty! You are jammin'!
Certainly an all time great late night tv performance certainly in the genre of country and even rock n roll. You have The Who live at Leeds, Metallica in Moscow, Elvis on Sullivan, Stevie Ray Live at Montrouex, Hendrix on Dick Cavett, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives Live on Letterman!! My mentor of telecaster pickin’ always said “Country boys can really rock but ya ain’t teachin no rocker how to play country!!“
famous tele owned by clarence white of the birds....marty borrowed it from his wife after his death..prototype of the parsons-white b bender....double thick body.....scruggs drop d tuners on both e strings fender custom shop made a version for the masses...slick as a hound dog
Clarence's wife actually sold the guitar to Marty. He handed her a blank check and told her to make out an amount and she sold it to him for $1100...He begged her to take more money but she insisted that Marty take the guitar for $1100...He is the first to admit he doesn't even deserve it...I believe he deserves it if she does, and apparently she wanted Marty to have the guitar. Very kind of her.
...lady's and gents...that's TRUE talent and entertainment....it's a shame , some of this shit today they're calling talent .... .......sad...doesn't get much better than Marty Stuart and Cousin Kenny Vaughn......so tight
If you're a Musician or just appreciate real music....... Have you ever seen 4 guys that were just meant to play music together? It rarely happens, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Alabama, and a few others. It's just a package deal and was meant to be. It probably wouldn't work as well if one of them wasn't there. It's just meant to be.
No pedal boards. Plugged straight into their amp. That has been voted 1 of the top 5 all time musical performances on Letterman. The guys were smokin!!!!!
Marty, if Clarence White is looking down he is proud that you have really done his guitar justice.🎸🎵 I’m glad I got to meet you and your band and have a laugh after the show in Nashville Arkansas. It was a great ending to summer vacation that year.
Came here after watching guitarist Kenny Vaughan tell the story of this performance on Otis Gibbs’ channel. Good stuff! ruclips.net/video/dTgIVhJfHSw/видео.html
That’s his bluegrass background, appreciate music for music’s sake instead of making up all about “the artist”. Most bluegrass fans can name all the side men. Country (commercial) fans rarely know or even care who is making the music as long as they have a “star” to worship
I like the way Marty grins at Kenny as he's driving a nail in Lettermans house band . Any thoughts on how great they think they were, are evaporated in one song. Marty and Kenny were making a statement. In Vaughns interview about this show he spoke of the hillbilly comments that Lettermans band was passing before they went on.
Sometimes musicians come together and magic happens. This is one of those times! These guys really have a groove going on. You can tell by watching the bass player as he's diggin' it!
Two Silverface, two telecasters, no pedals…. Sonic gold
Glad someone else noticed that these guys plug straight in and play-no pedals, no effects. They don’t need ‘em.
Absolutely! “We don’t need pedals.” - Kenny Vaughan
wouldn't really matter what these guys were playing through. it's like tiger woods buy golf clubs from Walmart. he still kicking everyone else's ass.
I guess everyone already knows Kenny said in an interview that in Nashville terms they were "roadhot" from doing so many shows just prior. Letterman was clueless that he had great men on his stage! My heroes for sure. 🎶🐒

@@donnievick3076 That's right. SRV and Jimmy ALSO captured the essence of Great America in their music just as these boys did.

Marty, Kenny, Paul and Harry are incredible! Just WOW! Kenny is one of the best guitarists...could listen to him all day and night! Love these guys!

This is just unbelievable. And Handsome Harry just knocking them dead on those drums during the solos. I'm floored.
It's a 'Telebration'!
No pedals. Just Fenders played through Fenders.
That twin guitar solo is hot, but man listen to Handsome back there getting it during the solo.
amen wish i had his magic fingers. has a great voice too
Absolutely great pickin' !!

Me too!
Whhhooooooeeeeee dem boys just tore that shit up!!!!!!!!!
Need more country music like this.
you guys so good with sound of Telecaster. Bravo Bravo good America Country music
soo want to hear that one of Marys and touch the thing in person
Kenny Vaughan said they were "road hot" when they appeared here, no doubt!
some of dave’s people made fun of Marty and the boys when they arrived. they were drooling and awestruck after they played
Besides the guitars, of course, how about the drummer here? I would be exhausted after his one!
Marty Stuart released a great album in 2017: "Way Out West." Check it out.
Now this is my kind of country. You can have today's "pop" country...so antiseptic and sterile. Marty's kind of country has balls.
Marty and Kenny and band.......Freakin' Awesome, man !
..that bands a National Treasure ....see them while you can .
This has got to be one of the hottest country videos from the last 10 years--outtasight.
Marty was incredibly generous, letting Kenny play so much.
Check out the videos they recorded at Ernest Tubbs Record Store. Same band but Kenny sings all the songs and Marty is the sideman 👍
Keepers of the real country flame. Saw them when this first came out. Great show!
Thank you for posting. We all need more Marty and Kenny these days.
How to understand if people are happy with their jobs? Take a look at 00:34

Old School Country left Nashville a lloooonnnnggggg time ago, but Marty and the Boys keep it going all the time.
You know how you get that good at guitar? I am thinking a few thousand hours of practice :-)

Looks like Marty popped a string on his solo
Sweeps it out of the way .
Keeps it cool of course

what is it with the neck scarves/high turtlenecks/ gator boy look and Marty? Pretty prissy and silly looking
