Just watched this. And man, I just love everything about you. (Which means if we were in a meeting, I’d be nodding right along with you). Thanks for sharing you and your process with the world
Doesn’t make much difference, but the iconic first line starts with 3B, not 2D. Note is the same, but the texture is different. Figured I would share since the rest of this lesson is right on the money. Best breakdown on YT 👍🏼
Hey, thanks for the comment and you’re very welcome. I wish I had the time to post more content here, although I do post on my Instagram more regularly (gobiron_harmonica)
Thank you. Awesome technique. Very precise tab. Could you please provide the link to backing track? Would be great to see same great work on other Little Walter hits: My babe solos, Mellow down easy. Perhaps also Big Walter Horton (Walter's boogie - various versions) and Sonny Boy Williamson Bye bye bird.
Thanks. I’d like to do more but struggle to find the time as they take quite a bit of effort. If you look through my channel videos there is one on My Babe albeit without tab. The backing track I used here is from Shoji Naito and through lockdown he’s been giving them away here: www.shojinaito.com/news/2020/4/14/legacy-shoblues-harptracks-for-free. You can also find great backing tracks by searching MCCD Sessions on RUclips.
Thanks Jack, glad you enjoyed it. The backing track I used is from Shoji Naito. He has a bunch of great jam tracks on his RUclips channel including Juke (ruclips.net/video/6qsqbisHtI4/видео.html).
Great to see a Juke lesson. However I remember hearing an interview with Jerry Portnoy where he said that in the opening riff Walter plays the holes 6 - 9 octave not the 3 - 6. I wanted to be sure effort I commented so I’ve just had a good listen. I think he’s right. I can’t hear the sound of hole 3 in the octave but I think I can hear hole 9. Might be worth double checking at slow speed.
Hi Ricky and thanks for your comment. You won't believe it but I was just dusting off some old records and came across an album from The Mighty House Rockers featuring a very young Ricky Cool on the back cover, and moments later your comment pops up. Spooky! In terms of that opening riff, you may well be right. On listening back and slowing it down it's
.... really hard to tell. One thing for certain is that 3-6 is more accessible to the average player than 6-9 as the jump to 6-9 is quite awkward. When I play "Juke" live I often play the riff as octaves from 3-6 to 6-9 over the IV chord which adds a nice variation.
@@GobIron Hi again. Yes it was a long time ago when I did the session for Les. You’re right, the 6-9 octave is a tricky jump The 3-6 sounds fine and is far more accessible. After all, the main thing is to try and capture the feel and the groove. There is a great backing track for Juke along with many others if you look for MCCDSessions on RUclips. Best wishes, Ricky
Hi Gobiron, Thanks for your great tutorial! When scooping down 2D in the second chorus, what bend are you aiming at? Is ist half step bend? Thanks for your help.
Someone who knows better may correct me but by my reckoning in chorus 2 the riffs I’ve laid out over bars 1 through 8 (ie 32 beats) Walter plays over 7 bars (28 beats). So the second chorus loses a bar before the V chord. After riff 1 to stay in time with a 12 bar chorus you need to pause for 2 beats before playing the second riff (each riff starts on the last beat of the previous bar). Walter doesn’t leave a pause. Unusual so it could have been a mistake or maybe just his genius.
Great Tutorial! Just one question though. I thought the 3 draw scooped up from the whole step not the half step bend making it essentially going up the major pentatonic scale.
Hi and thanks for the feedback. There are different opinions on what Walter's playing on the opening riff. For me it's the 3draw half step bend up to the 3 draw, but others will argue it's the 3 draw whole tone bend. When I listen to what he plays and slow it down it doesn't sound like the whole tone to me, but you could play either and still sound good. You could also try replacing the 3-6 blow octave with the 6-9 blow. It's harder to play but I suspect it's what Walter is actually playing in the original.
@@CPerreault Only a couple of older ones on how to play Little Walter's "My Babe" and "Quarter Twelve" which don't include any tab (I'm not a big fan of tab in general), also one on music theory for harp players (check out my channel) These lessons have been a bit of a lockdown project but I've quite enjoyed it so might post more in the future.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say I’ve got 4 bars of the 4 chord. I don’t think I do. For the most part this is a standard I IV V progression so yes there are only two bars of the 4 chord (bars 5 and 6), followed by two on the 1 chord (bars 7 and 8).
If you’re new to learning the harmonica this tune is probably going to be too much for you to take on and so I’d recommend starting with something more basic. You need to have mastered single notes, bending notes etc which will take some time. The tab is pretty standard. The number is the hole to play and B = blow, D = draw (or breath out, breath in). Good luck.
@@GobIron I searched on RUclips but all on (A) harmonica And was so hard for me and my harmonica is (C) . my dream of my life to play this song so if u could put the tabs I will be so appreciated
Hi Goblron. This is fantastic so thank you! Working my way through it I think in bars 9-12 the middle section you finish on 4B not 5B when playing the backing track? I think this sounds better as it leads into the 3D' in the last section. great stuff.... Cheers.

Hi thanks for watching. When I play the 2D scoop it's going down to the whole step bend.
@@GobIron Thanks for your quick response. Now I know how to play the 2nd chorus - the way I played it didn't match yours.
Could you elaborate how does Little Walter deviate from standard time signature in 2nd chorus?
Someone who knows better may correct me but by my reckoning in chorus 2 the riffs I’ve laid out over bars 1 through 8 (ie 32 beats) Walter plays over 7 bars (28 beats).
