Thanks so much Alex, I love the lessons you post. When I 1st started getting professional harp lessons (mid-90's), I was "teethed" on Little Walter. To this day, I always open our set with Juke (gets the creative juices flowing). This lesson filled in a few LW theory "holes" for me. You certainly are one extremely talented individual! Thanks you so much for sharing with us. God bless you, my brother (more than He already has!).
Thanks alot man! Maybe you could do a video on your process of researching and understanding a particular player's music. I think that's one of your strongerst attributes as a player, your abbility to switch to and adopt new musical "languages" so consciously. I'd love to understand your process for doing this.
Wow you are a pretty good teacher! But lol you are for getting to tell all of us what key harmonica we need too be playing. Because as you know when our harmonica sounds just like your harmonica key that you are playing. It because way more easily to get it because the sound of key is one in the same!So let us know what is the key and keep up your great. teaching
Alex, by your dialect you sound Slovenian rather than Russian. But I have been listening and emulating Little Walter for 50 years, learning from his records being self taught in harmonica. I must ask...are you SURE Walter was a 100% tongue blocker?? After tongue blocking myself for many years I concluded LW could no way pull off his runs and phrasing by TB, so I took on a modified combo TB-lip block technique, which still didn't recreate LW's sound. Could you do a vid specifically on LW's phrasing, breathing, and intervals ? His little tongue slaps are obvious, but the rest of his breathing seems impossible solely with TB. Any ideas? New Sub.
Alex, I love this, thanks v much indeed. Can i ask though, whats the word you are saying intro to describe L Walter's style of playing please? I can't quite make it out.
He obviously did, unless you can play the intro of I don't need no horse, Juke or Evan's shuffle without tongue blocking and still keeping that same groove and same tone. Let's face it: there are sonic and rhythmic artifacts you just can't get while lip blocking. On the other hand, lots of blues harp players (including me) might underestimate how much Little Walter actually puckered.
I hate you so much Alex. I want to play like you. How did you learn to play harmonica? Did you have a teacher? Where I live there in no teachers for harmonica so I'm trying by here and there. What do you recomend me to learn and play in good level? I love your videos so much...
Thanks Alex , it’s so kind of you to give all this great information on harmonica blues playing . I love your videos.
Thanks Alex! Loved your lesson. Especially like the end where you suggest being creative with using the Little Walter sound.
