    I'm a career Paramedic (35yrs). We have learnt much from CRM in management of life threatening situations and the importance of debrief. Flight crew set the standard. Great video.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +4

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Crew Resource Management is really important. Everybody in the crew is important. And: Regardless of hierarchy he or she is requested to speak up if there is an important information, observation or if she or he observes that another crewmember is doing something wrong. Especially somebody of lower rank or hierarchy should never have any fear to speak up. On the other hand, for example the captain has to invite the others to speak up and he or she has always to be ready to accept critics from others. This is all needed for a safe outcome, especially if we have to deal with non normal situations.
      The debrief is also on a normal day a good tool to check and ask us if we did good or if there is room for improvement somewhere.

    As a former member of the loading personell at Hamburg Airport I thank you for switching on the brake fan only when not on the stand. Saves us loaders from a lot of noise but most importantly less carbon dust being blown in our faces which we then breathe in. Thank you!!

    • @n1msu
      @n1msu 2 года назад +2

      I actually read in the A320 training manual that the brake fans should not be used on the stand for this reason! If some pilots are ignoring this basic courtesy I wonder what else they're ignoring? The fact that the weather radar is like a large microwave oven, I wonder how many times that's been left on at the gate?

      Thanks for watching and your comment! I agree, we always avoid switching on the brake fans when people are near the brakes. Ideally we only switch it on when taxiing to the runway. Sometimes it must be done earlier. In that cases we switch it on prior to reaching the parking position. Have a nice day!

    Premise: I'm not by any means a pilot or an expert, but I'm passionate about aviation. I love the A320 and logged 1000+ hours on MSFS 2020 with Fenix A320 aircraft (real pilots that have tried this model say that it behaves like the real thing and the flight model is accurate) and I've landed few times in Mykonos (what a beautiful sight by the way) and there's always a bit of headwind and less half a mile short of the runway there's always a strange downdraft, in fact I often come a little bit higher to compensate. The thing that really excites me while watching your video is when I realize that the Fenix A320 is a beast in terms of simulation and feels exactly how it looks.
    Great videos Captain, keep the coming up!

      Ich fliege immer im kurzen Hemd. Im Winter nutze ich auch gelegentlich einen Pollunder oder Pullover. Im Cockpit ist es angenehm warm. Und wenn wir in Griechenland nach draußen gehen, müssen wir auch mit dem kurzen Hemd nicht frieren.

    Tolles Video! Macht Spaß euch zu zuschauen! Darf ich fragen, warum bzw. in welchen Fällen der FD ausgeschaltet wird wie bei euch zu sehen ist? Viele Grüße vom Bodensee

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад

      Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen! Beim ILS-Anflug (Instrument Landing System) ist der Flight Director normalerweise eingeschaltet bis zur Landung. Natürlich muss man das auch ohne können. Deshalb machen wir zu Trainingszwecken manchmal einen "Raw Data"-Anflug bei dem der Flight Director ausgeschaltet ist. Hier in Mykonos handelte es sich um einen Non Precision Anflug. Je nach Kodierung des Anfluges kann man inzwischen auch dabei den FD bis zur Landung eingeschaltet lassen. Er wechselt dabei jedoch am Ende noch den Modus. Außerdem ist der Mykonos-Anflug offset. Das heißt, der Anflugkurs weicht leicht vom Track der Landebahn ab. Spätestens ab dem Minimum muss man ja eh eine passende Sicht zur Landebahn haben. Deshalb habe ich den Flight Director am Minimum abgeschaltet, um dann nach Sicht in der verlängerten Anfluggrundlinie in Richtung Landebahn zu steuern und zu sinken. Ich hoffe, das hilft ein wenig. Viele Grüße an den "Lake Konstanz".

    Wieder ein SUPER Video! Die Einleitung und Erklärung hat mir sehr gefallen! Beeindruckend wie wenig Piste gebraucht wurde - 1000 m? Vielen Dank fürs Teilen!
    Als Idee: wäre es vielleicht möglich in zukünftigen Videos das Approach Briefing mit zu filmen? Gerade für rnav Approach sicher interessant zu sehen.
    Noch eine Frage: MK522 ist doch östlich, hattet ihr da ein Routing, dass euch von Nord Osten zur Insel gebracht hat?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад +1

      Vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen und das gute Feedback. Viel Runway haben wir nicht gebraucht. Ich schätze mal 1200 bis 1300 Meter. Das hat aber auch mit dem Gegenwind zu tun und der Touchdown war früher als vorberechnet. Der Anflug war tatsächlich aus Nordost. Das ist eher selten. Das passte aber zur Flugroute davor. Was Briefings betrifft, arbeite ich daran, dass wir öfter mal eins zeigen oder irgendwie mit einbauen. Im neuesten Düsseldorf-23R-Video gibt es bereits ein kurzes Briefing am Anfang des Films, da sich die Runway im Anflug geändert hat.

    This was a very interesting approach to show on the ND, particulalrly as ATC let you follow the procedure without giving you vectors. We could watch your progress against the islands as well as the navigation waypoints. As someone else mentioned, the clarity on the two displayswas a bit blurry - but getting better and better every time!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +4

      Thanks for the comprehensive feedback! I try to improve the videos. The clarity of the two displays is my actual project. I work on improvements, but it is not that easy. The original idea to remove the reflections on the ND with a CPL filter did not work as expected. So I had to move the camera to another location with the result that there are less reflections on the ND. It is now readable but the overall quality of the PFD and ND is not as good as I want it. Please stay tuned for further improvements. But it may take some time.

    Hi great stuff as always. I like the inclusion of the ND but with the PFD perhaps they need more space on the screen? I thought the clarity was lost (compared to the clarity on the LTAI App video) and it was hard to read the detail. The sunshine did not always help! Perhaps a reduction in the size of the copilot and or Captain views will make the PFD and ND view sharper? Keep,up the good work!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching and your feedback! The clarity was lost due to a different camera position. The camera is now further away from the PFD and the ND. There is now much more bright light between the camera and the screens which makes the recording more difficult. On the other hand, the really bad reflections which made the ND very difficult to impossible to read are now almost gone. Changing the size of the Copilot or Captain views will not change the PFD and ND. I am also not happy with the clarity of the PFD and ND. Main obstacles are vibrations and unwanted reflections which makes the recording more difficult than expected. I will continue working on improvements on that. But - as always - that may take some time. Please stay tuned! Have a nice day!

      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +1

      Vielen Dank fürs gute und ausführliche Feedback! Hier eine etwas vereinfachte aber vielleicht verständliche Darstellung: Eine VLS wird vom FMGS auf Basis des Gewichts vom Loadsheet plus Sprit errechnet und in der MCDU angezeigt. Die zweite VLS wird unabhängig davon auf Basis von aerodynamischen Daten (Angle of Attack …) und dem eingegebenen CG vom FAC Computer errechnet und auf dem PFD angezeigt. Falls die PFD-VLS höher als die in der MCDU angezeigte FMGS VLS ist, erhöhen wir die Anfluggeschwindigheit in der MCDU manuell um die Differenz.

    Hi Captain! Thanks for your content! I spotted that you are saying "no body bellow us" when approaching cleared altitudes (here and other videos), is this something from your Eurowings SOP?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and for your question. This is not a standard callout. It is just an information for the other pilot about no traffic below. If there is closeby traffic below the cleared altitude, we have to make sure to reduce the sinkrate early enough to avoid a TCAS resolution advisory. Have a nice day!

      Thanks for the great feedback! We usually use the lines and circles from the radial fix info page to mark the MSA sectors in accordance to the sectors from the approach chart. We entered the extended runway centerline because it was 1 degree offset from the approach track: Runway track is 336 and the approach track is 337.

    I wonder why did they started APU if a ground power is available?
    Having both is a common practice? Why?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад

      We usually start the APU when leaving the runway. After the cooldown time, we switch off one engine if not at the parking position or both when at the parking position. Usually the ground crew waits with the connection of the ground power until both engines are off. So we have to have the APU on to power the aircraft network until the ground power is connected. Also we need the APU for air condition, especially on warm days.

    On short final when that other dude requested a taxi, was that the ATC that simply said "Hang on" without using the correct call-sign? Did ATC say this so as to not clog up/distract the frequency for the landing pilots during this critical phase of landing?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Год назад

      It is difficult to understand what ATC exactly said to the plane. For me it sounded like stand by ... or so. But it looks like that ATC did not want to give a long answer because they were handling other duties in parallel or, as you mentioned, they did not want to clog the frequency. The other airplane asked for taxi. At that time, ATC was unable to tell them what exactly to do because they did not know if we would take the exit to the left or if we would have to do the 180 degree turn at the end of the runway and then taxi back. With us doing the 180 turn at the end, the other airplane would have left the apron to the runway during our 180 degree turn. But we turned in early, so they had to wait for us until we taxied into the parking position. You mentioned also that there was no callsign used in the answer. ATC and also we do do this once in a while if there is a very prompt answer and there is no possibility of a mix-up with other traffic on the frequency.

    Braucht man als Pilot nochmal eine extra Schulung um auf JMK landen zu dürfen ? Die Bahn ist ja doch sehr kurz 😮

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 месяца назад

      Der Flughafen macht hier keine Vorgaben. Das entscheidet jede Airline selbst und ändert sich auch manchmal im Laufe der Zeit. Wir brauchen aktuell keine extra Schulung. Allerdings fliegen wir auch zum Beispiel nach Dortmund. Dort gibt es auch eine kurze Bahn.

    Why is there no L/DEV indication on the pfd similar to the V/DEV indication? I thought this was the case for RNAV approaches.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +2

      Good question! This depends on the FMGS software setup. Some A320 airplanes have the L/DEV indication on the PFD. The Airbus in the video does not have it. You have to follow the flight directors to keep the airplane on track. You can see on the ND if there is a deviation from the approach track.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад

      It depends on the (changing) wind and the atmospheric conditions. Also some pilots make more and some less inputs to keep the airplane on track. It looks more difficult than it is. All the best to you!

    why is ground power available while engines running ? I thought you are not allowed to be near the aircraft while beacon is on.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад +1

      This depends on local regulations and procedures. Usually we switch the engines off with the arrival at the parking position. After the landing in the video, the engines were still running for a short while at the parking position for the required cooldown period because the taxi time was very short. The connector for the external power is at the aircraft nose, far away from the engines. There is no danger to anybody, if the connection is done with running engines. If an airplane for example is dispatched with a broken APU, the ground power must be connected before switching off the engines.

    Warum trägt der Copilot (First Officer) hier keine offizielle Uniform? Habe ich so noch nie gesehen, auch, wenn das natürlich nicht seine Kompetenz in Frage stellen soll ;-)

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  2 года назад

      Die Behauptung ist falsch! Der Copilot trägt eine offizielle Uniform: Zur Uniform gehören neben kurzen und langen Hemden, Jacket und Hosen auch Pullover/Pollunder/Wolljacke, sogar eine warme Wollmütze, ein Mantel und Handschuhe. Gerade an einem kalten Tag fliege auch ich gern im warmen Pullover. Bei bis zu minus 69 Grad Außentemperatur ist das manchmal deutlich angenehmer als nur mit dem Hemd. In der Öffentlichkeit sieht man den Pullover oder Pollunder allerdings meist nicht, da er unter dem Mantel oder dem Jacket verschwindet.
