You can see that he struggled. He wanted to put his arm around her and you could see he had a tear in his eye. But in Thailand public displays of affection is discouraged and it would have caused a loss of face for both of them I think if he had done that. Yeah I was moved too.

Once, I traveled way out into the boonies with an American friend and his Thai wife. The reaction of some of the locals was hilarious. We walked down the street and people were running out of their shops and houses to watch us. They were laughing and pointing and some were jumping up and down (the kids). You would have thought we had landed a spaceship in the middle of town. I was thoroughly amused.
Lovely Pay it Forward, Chris! That young girl speaking so highly and beautifully about her father really hit me. I'll be putting some £££ into the coffers. Thank you!
This really hits home. My Dad, born in 1943 was raised in a children's home in Dublin from the age of about 3 or 4. To give you an idea of how incredibly basic the children's home was, they got 1 egg a year, and that was at Easter. Whilst there, some people came from a scheme to send children to Australia. They were checked over medically, and Dad was rejected because he was so underweight. There was only provision for the boys until 13 at which time he lived in the YMCA and started working. Minimal education really, and absolutely no qualifications. His decision to join the British Army at 15 was the turning point. The Army gave him a career, an education and the means and opportunity to succeed. Given his start in life the odds were stacked against him. He finished his service at 55 as Lieutenant Colonel, having risen through the ranks. The opportunity that the Army gave him, had an impact in just one generation that both my brother and I graduated from University and have had successful careers. The similarity of the young women returning back as teachers was not lost on me. What a great cause, and what an example Michael is. Thanks for showing us this.
Thanks so much for allowing us to see the real Thailand and the difficulties for many to have a simple life with food, housing and education. Well done sir...
Thanks for this reminder Chris, during the pandemic we were contributing weekly to the Phuket life bag project which led into Living Waters. At the time I remember feeling how stingy our $20AUD per week was, then realised that our weekly contribution was almost engouth tp pay for one of the scholarships you provded to these kids. It made made me cry with gratitude. I enjoyed your 25 days of Bangkok, but Paying it Forward really makes my hear sing. Sorry for being sappy!
Wonderful video Chris, thank you, and a wonderful cause. Michael is amazing... that young teacher spoke in a dialect of Burmese, not Thai, yet he never missed a beat, translating just as he did from Thai... unbelievable. Thank you so much for sharing this with us 🙏🙏🙏
I love this video so much Chris, only half way through and the tears are flowing hard down my face. It is my dream to come back to Thailand and contribute both financially and first hand to causes like this. My adopted daughter of 9 years now has lived in a very similar situation in a small out of the way village in surrounding of Chaiyaphum. The family i support literally only has 3 walls on their home, no running water and share electricity with neighbors with a long exstension cord. Thankfully they do have an internet signal so we facetime several times per week, but they do have to travel quite far for school every day. And the few times i have been to visit it is clear that they struggle with just basic necessities. I have done my best to help them for the last 9 years, but as their family grows the money i do send becomes more and more diluted because they have to share everything. And the gifts i send now have to be 3 or 4 times from when i first decided to give my word to help support my daughter Hannah. When i first started it was one tricycle , and grew to 3 byclcles, and more recently in August of this year i sent 4 skateboards for all 4 young girls in the family, not to mention all the other touys, clothes, treats and snacks 555. But i can tell you it was by far the best decision i ever made , to adopt my little girl and help take care of her exstended family. It brings a joy to me that words can not fully exspress. I'm not sure if you remember me writing once or twice before but on January 15th this next year, only 6 more weeks, my boss is supposed to pay off my work contract early and i will be coming back to Thailand in just a couple months. And my plan was to build a skateboard park for the locals in her village and to spend the rest of my life giving back to help these young children with furthering their education and whatever i can do to help them have a happier , healthier , better life. And my point is Chris, i want you to know that your videos help inspire so many and help keep me more determined than ever to make all this happen. Thank you so much for giving back to these kids and their families. You are a real inspiration to so many around the world. Sincerely yours, Reno.
Thank you Michael, you are an angel 😇 It's hard not to cry and watch this video, Chris. I love my Thai family, friends, and Thai country ❤️ . I'm so glad I follow you and Shawn. I'm so proud of you guys for all the beautiful work you do. Best pay it forward yet 🙏🙏🙏
Truly inspirational to see the results of this organization and your dedication to paying it forward 🙏 The students, parents and teachers expressions of joy are truly humbling for us who live such privileged lives. 💞🙏
People in advanced societies with degrees: I want to be a farmer. People in developing Thailand who have been farmers for generations: I want to go to school. What a time we're in
I did something similar in Northern Thailand, although not as remote as this. But the school we did charity for was a conglomerate of children(many orphaned) from Thailand but also Burma and Laos mostly. It's interesting to see how they live and it's great to see their positive outlook on life despite what we would consider to be horrible living conditions. It's really tragic that with how developed the world is, people still need to live with such huge barriers to essentials. Luckily there's some great people doing what the government and monarchy should and could be doing.
That is not a accurate. The north of the country is the area of greatest concentration of royal projects since the 1950s! Hill tribe independence is respected! They are provided indigenous instruction in their own schools. Those who want to move in to towns, are supported to do so. They have funded agricultural projects all over the north of the country. There are wealthy hill tribes too - thanks to those schools and economic development projects! Everyone is different. 🙈
Always helping local and visiting country side are the things that people have to do instead of staying in popular area and going to popular restaurants, You are doing amazing job man, Stay safe
So touching, Chris. Great job reporting and creating awareness. I was just in Mae Sariang 4 months ago on a motorcycle. You’ve given me some ideas of how to spend some of my retirement money. I’m happy I’ve been developing young people in Micronesia for 31 years. Your video reminded me of the importance of education and of teachers especially for families and their children who are basically unknown to the world unless they’re introduced to us in journalism like this. Good on you…and thank you.
You are Awesome! it was such a pleasure to meet you at your party in Bangkok!! Keep up the amazing journey in beautiful Thailand and thank you for showing real Thai communities ❤
**You outdid yourself with this one Chris!**That opening scene with the girl and her father. Wow...I wept!** I will be moving to Thailand hopefully by the end of '23...If not then...soon after! **I look forward to Meeting You and Helping You Help Others!**God Bless You & God Bless Thailand!***
Chris this video is my number one on your vlogs. I'm Polish and I have moved to Wales 17 years ago for change my life for better life and I watched this vlog with my kids they born here and I tried and still trying to explain how easy life they have now. Your film or similar films should be watching on first hour in every school. PEOPLE MORE RESPECT FOR OTHERS 👏👍👌❤️ WELL DONE CHRIS
👋🏼Hello Chris! This video really played the with the heart stings🥺but what Michael’s family has been doing for the last 40 years is very heart warming.😊 ♥️Keep up the amazing videos coming and keep doing what your doing Chris. Absolutely amazing work you do Chris. ♥️🇨🇦
This video brought tears to my eyes, this is so far my favorite Video, Criss this is awesome to see those that are less fortunate receive needed help and to see these children get schooling, truly a real miracle, i will be returning to Thailand in March 2023, hope I can also pay it forward from my recovery from my miracles of past health conditions, my love for the people of Thailand continues to grow.
Must admit that one made my eyes sweat. Brings back awesome memories of similar work we did in Cambodia for a decade. You handing out the 'loot bags' brought it all back. After completing houses in Cambodia, the official handover included each of our builders giving the family a quilt. What is important for viewers to know is that giving a bit can go a very long way. When you find an organization you can trust doing this work you can give with full confidence. And yes Chris it is truly life changing! Now I know why you were excited about this one. Great work brother.
I love the work that you do in the "Pay it Forward" pieces. I was so moved by this that I've done a couple of projects myself. Thank you for the inspiration.
Without a doubt Chris - the best ever of all your videos man!!!!! My wife and were just blown away and will certainly be donating to this for sure. please let us know how we can keep updated on how we can help in an ongoing way not just financially. We probably wont be able to visit when we are in Chang Mai but we are certainly looking forward to visiting a great mate of mine working for a humanitarian organisation in Bangkok helping women escape trafficking and the like industries. Like your mate Sean and Michael he is such an inspirational guy and we are looking forward to going over to meet and serve in whatever way we can. Thanks so so much for taking the time to do this clip!!!!
I could hear it in the young girl's voice at the beginning of the video. Such sorrow. I could also tell that Michael speaks at a native level. When I heard his voice off camera I thought he was a native Thai. I had to laugh when he asked the teenage boys whether or not they were going to play rock paper scissors for their beds. Michael also understood the hill tribe language? Wow! That's impressive. The whole thing is impressive. Happy to have helped in any small amount. Happy to help even more.
This is so touching I had tears in my eyes. When I was a boy I was homeless for four years. But I never had it this tough. Every time I bite into an apple or during storms have a house to be in I am so grateful. Thank you for this video! I shared it on my Facebook and on my LinkedIn. Hopefully more people will donate to such a wonderful cause! May you be free from hostility, danger, mental, physical, and spiritual suffering. May all beings, seen and unseen, in all realms and planes of existence bless you. May all beings feel inner peace and happiness. Satu Satu Satu
First of all, I would like to thank you Chris for what you have done to the country. You are my fav! ❤ Secondly,I want to add some more info for those who don't know Karen. Karen is a minority who emigrated from Burma to live in Thailand. The Thai government has no eviction or slaughter policy like other countries. And the reason Karen live in a remote area because the ability to find work depends on skills and education to be able to move to the capital which in the first generation they still cannot speak Thai. The government has supported education but unable to build facilities because the area chosen by the Karen is a forest area and the state does not want to waste forest areas but wants their descendants to be able to enter the city to find work instead which helps the government stop the problem of forest encroachment. Lastly, in the past they weren’t unable to access treatment. King Rama 9 therefore conferring Thai nationality and a Thai ID card so that they can be treated at the hospital. As you know Thailand is still developing so its quite hard to help every minority and refugee 😢
Hey Chris, just wanted to say I love your videos. Just got here on the 29th from the US. We are spending a month-long holiday mainly in the Korat area. Haven't been back here in 5 years due to the lock downs but your videos are wonderful for us to watch. Keep up the great work. Barry
What an amazing video and topic! It was tough and exciting to watch. It was tough in the sense that it seems like it is so challenging to help them but also wonderful that the dorms are being built and the education is happening. I would challenge anyone watching this to to what they can and at least just spread the word and ask other people to do the same. Hopefully enough people will watch it, do something and more dorms and education can take place. The gift of education can never be underestimated.
I can hear how determination of this young girl, go go and make your dream come ture! It makes me think about life on the side of the border. In Myanmar, kids of hill tribes have no choices, some have to fight for their existence.
Great new video Chris. Even had tears in my eyes at some moments..Makes you realize that not eveything comes easy.. And also that family is so important... Which leads me to wishing you having a great trip with the family. Was a nice suprise bumping in to you guys today!!! We'll keep following and supporting you, all the best from us, Rosie & Michiel
Proof that not all superheroes wear capes. Thanks for sharing this story Mr Parker. Hopefully this ripple stars more awareness and raise more support moving forward. Very worthy cause ❤❤❤
When my wife started her teaching career she was posted to a remote Karen village - 3 days trek by donkey to get there. When the teachers had their breaks to go home (they did several weeks in the village, then had a week off) the army ferried them in and out by helicopter.
It's been 9 months since I just saw this video. Thank you for being a good example for those who have passed. This world is a better place because of people like you. May you be happy throughout your journey.❤
Amazing video Chris. You all have hearts of gold ❤ it was so hard not to cry watching this. Thank you for all you do and to Michael and all others who have helped them. It’s people like you who keep my faith in humanity. There is still plenty of good out there. Hopefully one day they can bring a small hospital out there to them. Some sort of medical care. All so inspiring.
Great video and incredible people, that girl was so aware of the situation in which she was yet incredibly grateful for everything her parents gave her, they really deserve this dorm and a great education!
Beautiful. Chris, you're an amazing communicator of all things Thailand, especially with the pay it forward episodes. You have a big heart, and I feel it every time you do this type of video. Thank you so much for sharing the life of these amazing people, and I look forward to the next.
Chris.....Thank you for making this 64 y/o man cry like a fricking baby on a Saturday night.. What a wonderful story. Grateful to know that there are kind people who want to help others. Thank you again.
Just started the video and so far it's excellent, when you were talking about health emergencies and such it made me wonder if volunteers ever go to teach them CPR, basic first aid, and or even more advanced.?
Amazing video! This is going to help make a very big difference with a more positive future for the families and their children. Thank you for sharing this information, excellent work!
Thanks Chris for the amazing work you and your people do! Happy to have helped financially with what we can. We are moving to Bangkok in August and would love to volunteer with your organization if possible.

They even said she would respond in Karen. Calling this a Burmese dialect is so hurtful. Hopefully not intended.

Sincerely yours,
Reno.
I wish there were more people like you
Thank you Michael, you are an angel 😇
It's hard not to cry and watch this video, Chris.
I love my Thai family, friends, and Thai country ❤️ .
I'm so glad I follow you and Shawn.
I'm so proud of you guys for all the beautiful work you do.
Best pay it forward yet 🙏🙏🙏
Truly inspirational to see the results of this organization and your dedication to paying it forward 🙏
The students, parents and teachers expressions of joy are truly humbling for us who live such privileged lives.
💞🙏
very well said!
Just learn more about how much the late king did for hill tribe village about 60 years ago till now.
@@dueyduey1611 i agree. Missionaries don’t respect indigenous cultures 😵💫
Always helping local and visiting country side are the things that people have to do instead of staying in popular area and going to popular restaurants, You are doing amazing job man, Stay safe
คริส! คณสุดยอดมาก ขอบคุณที่คุณเที่ยวต่างจังหวัดของไทยเรา บ้านนอกเรารักสงบจ้า
This has to be the most moving episode of Retired Working For You., Congratulations Michael , you really are a true hero .
Thank you for sharing this beautiful documentary.
Chris, another amazing video. We all learn so much from your channel, and we've seen so many selfless people that are doing such wonderful work. Ian G
That man will never retire. Kudos to you Chris. Really great work.
Great and sensitive video, thank you so much for showing the other side of Thailand that people don't even think about!..thank you 😀
Chris this video is my number one on your vlogs.
Amazing work bringing this to us Chris. Thank you 😢
This video brought tears to my eyes, this is so far my favorite Video, Criss this is awesome to see those that are less fortunate receive needed help and to see these children get schooling, truly a real miracle, i will be returning to Thailand in March 2023, hope I can also pay it forward from my recovery from my miracles of past health conditions, my love for the people of Thailand continues to grow.
Thank you for the inspiration.
wow, that is just amazing to hear.
Very hart worming to know these children are getting the opportunity of having an education. 👍👏
ขอบคุณ สำหรับสิ่งดีๆที่มอบให้คนไทยครับ
This is one of the greatest video. Thanks q and Michael and the foundation that help Thai People far away from the city. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙂
Incredible video! Heartbreaking and emotional, yet encouraging for a better life for these kids and families.
Thank you everyone for helping.
So Important. Inspiring. Please keep paying it forward.

Chris, you've done an amazing work for Thai people. We're a big fan for your channel.
First of all, I would like to thank you Chris for what you have done to the country. You are my fav! ❤
Secondly,I want to add some more info for those who don't know Karen.
Barry
thanks a lot Barry, have a great time here!
I’ve only short word, “Thank you”. The miracle was done by everyone.
We'll keep following and supporting you, all the best from us, Rosie & Michiel
great to bump into you guys too.
Proof that not all superheroes wear capes. Thanks for sharing this story Mr Parker. Hopefully this ripple stars more awareness and raise more support moving forward. Very worthy cause ❤❤❤
you have a big heart chriss..thais must be grateful having you in their kingdom

It is an awesome example you set Chris.
ขอบคุณมากครับที่ช่วยน้องๆ ขอพระเจ้าอำนวยอวยพรคุณและครอบครับครับ ขอบคุณครับ
Brilliant Chris as usual, great man Michael and the sense and feeling of community spirit was great, lovely people, as are all Thai's
thanks for being a huge part of this whole ride Pat
That bought tears to this old guys eyes,,great to see the effect that help has on people,
So inspiring to see selfless dedication 🙏
When my wife started her teaching career she was posted to a remote Karen village - 3 days trek by donkey to get there. When the teachers had their breaks to go home (they did several weeks in the village, then had a week off) the army ferried them in and out by helicopter.
Thank you for what you have done for my country. I love your work! Keep it up❤
It's been 9 months since I just saw this video. Thank you for being a good example for those who have passed. This world is a better place because of people like you. May you be happy throughout your journey.❤
Thank you very much Chris for loving Thailand 🙏🏽👍🏻👍🏽👍🏿
Wow that was a very moving video to watch, there truly are angels among us. Great work icare 😇
Building small hospital is not that hard. The problem is there is no doctor dedicate to live in remote small village.
@@dueyduey1611 you are right, I thought about that too. Not sure doctors would live out there.
Now that blew me away 🫶🇳🇴 this is amazing, thank you for sharing Chris 🙏🏻 proud of my country to do this .
Great video and incredible people, that girl was so aware of the situation in which she was yet incredibly grateful for everything her parents gave her, they really deserve this dorm and a great education!
ขอบคุณมากครับ ที่ช่วยเด็กๆ
A fantastic editorial Chris, truly humbling and makes you realise just how lucky we are and what we take for granted. Top thumbs up 👍
