Love Y2K!!
I'm australian and I absolutely adore this plane, the design is so unique.
That cockpit feels so familiar and I've never even flown a spit, just spent a lot of time in DCS.
The most beautiful aircraft ever!
Bob but more on the most “known” aircraft ever
Cannot agree more. Amazing airplane.
O-oh, YESSSSIR, Absolutely.
The Brits built the best airplane ever created. Even the P-51 would be noting if it didn't have a British engine. I always get a lump in my throat when I see and hear a "Spit".
Bob.... yep, a gloriously elegant design. Damned beautiful machines.
This is how you know when you’ve reached the pinnacle of your career.
@Cameron Nicoll
Pinnacle of human existence... (well, maybe walking on the moon...)
@@Skyprince27 or discovering something new
@@Skyprince27 Nah, this is better on my opinion, but that's still amazing

CERTAINLY safer & cheaper!
Yes, to earn the privilege of piloting a spitfire would be the crowning achievement of a flying career.
The sound of victory and probably the most beautiful aircraft ever produced. Tears in my eyes. Beautiful!
No aerobatics were allowed. This was required to be just a flyby display.
A great memory though. Thanks for editing it together.
I was thinking a bit tame, but thanks to your comment I now know why.
It's a priviledge to watch an aircraft such as this being displayed... thank you. I equally enjoy more dynamic displays where they are permitted. As long as the pilot has regard for power issues/sensible use of energy, these displays can be equally as safe.
Zeb: you are exactly right. Just hearing a Merlin up close shocks most children, and that is enough!
You have, without doubt, the best job on the face of God's green earth. The closest i've got so far was chatting to Caroline Grace on the apron of my flight training school at Leeds Bradford where ML407 was parked for the night. That and closing my eyes whilst solo in a C172 and just dreaming for a moment..
Ahh, the display makes more sense after reading this comment. Shame he couldn't show off the aircraft more, but beautiful footage regardless.
What a plane makes me proud to be British. The only thing that does these days.We had the spitfire you guys had the Mustang. What a team.Thank you so much 🇬🇧🇺🇸Forever grateful.
And think the specs for the P51 were written by you guys. A couple of the great fighters of WW2
If it wasn't for Britain bastardizing a P-51A by dumping the Allison engine, lengthening the Engine cowling/mount, then adding the Rolls Royce engine, the 51 would have been a low level reconnaissance plane and no one would have know what it was today. By adding the Rolls Royce, we (alliance) had a thoroughbred. The Rolls Royce was later produced under license by Packard in the states being called the Merlin. Now we (alliance) had one hell of a fighter. The Spitfire saved Great Britain and the 51 stormed Germany. Thank you Great Britain for everything!
@lee hamlin that's awesome!😀
Jollyroger Hobbies ______ The Merlin was always known as the Merlin, even before Packard built it.
@@burlatsdemontaigne6147 Yea, i tried to edit my comment after I posted that but RUclips wouldn't let me. But yes, you are very correct.
What a buzz it must be for the pilot flying one of the finest aircraft ever built
I'm grateful we have people who respect history and put the time and effort in to keep these machines in good working order so we can enjoy them as well. Thanks for the upload.
I'm from Lincoln in the UK.
We're used to sound of Merlins here and cherish every second we hear them!
Throughout summer I often have the BBMF (Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) fly somewhere nearby which will be the Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane.
beautiful flight, please look after her.
ArcturanMegadonkey don’t forget the red arrows and tritton tank
That's not a Merlin engine...
Like taking a world-class dressage horse and putting it through basic walk/trot/canter transitions; still cool to watch.
That would be awesome. I just got the supermarine spitfire in mfs 2020 and ever since I got good at flying it, I can't stop.
Your used to the sound of Merlins you say and your from Lincoln you must live near Guy Martin.
The graphics on this game are superb.
Sim Deck it's not a game dipshit.

I see a spitfire being flown over my head many times a month. It’s flying from Headcorn Airfield in Kent with a paying passenger (they do look ugly with that 2nd seat). I know it way before I see it because of the sound of that engine. It makes my day every time.
When watching this wonderful clip, my thoughts turn to the pilots of so many nations (British, Polish, Czech, Aussie, Kiwi, Canadian, American to name a few) who also took off like this but never to return.
Hey your just down the road to me 😊Ashford.
I feel like I have finally been in a Spitfire. Thanks for posting.
You can go up in a 2 seater but it's expensive, around £3k for 20mins.
You could get a nice gaming PC, MSFS 2020, a VR unit and the payware Spitfire that's being shown off all over the place on the platform. The same 3 grand but you could do it whenever you want at just the cost of the electricity. XD
Not the same as being in a real aeroplane. You're just sitting at a desk.
@@thegreathadoken6808 even better, DCS World where you can fly the Spit in combat
Amazing video! The closest experience I will ever have to fly a Spit.
British engineering at its best for that time, this tiny plane saved the day together with the Hurricane.
A great demonstration of stability is the testimony for a great shooting platform.
Congratulations to all those who maintain this plane.
Thank you.
The Rolls Royce Merlin, mechanical perfection. The Spitfire, aerodynamic and aesthetic perfection. Thanks for the vid!
neighborscomplaint The Merlin was NOT perfect, it lacked an adequet oil pump, and strong enough con rods and untill the Bendix pressure carb used cut out in a quick bunt into a dive, and it was a maintainence nightmare !!!! not perfect but "Good enough"... Packard solved the oil problem, larger volume/pressure oil pump and Bendix pressure carb plusa few other "Improvements !!!
I was treated to a tour of the heritage hangar at Biggin Hill for my birthday. An absolutely amazing experience for anyone who has a passion for these aircraft.. the highlight was being allowed to sit in one...as I settled in to the seat I felt the tears just roll down my face... It is impossible to describe. I swear I could feel all those who had sat in her all those years ago. It was an honour, privilege and as someone else mentioned, it is the most beautiful killing machine ever built. Please, if you are in the uk, it is worth the trip to Kent to support their work. Priceless for the memory and to smell the cockpit is just intoxicating. I cannot thank and admire all who flew in the war enough... you brave brave men and women. Thankyou.
It must feel both exhilarating and humbling to fly a Spitfire. What a plane, and the men that flew them 🇬🇧
My father flew the Mk V and Mk IX in North Africa and the invasion of Italy. Thanks for this.
Wow, what a treat! Thank you for letting us fly along - virtually - in this magnificient plane!
David Hadfield is a Canadian singer/songwriter, author, wilderness adventurer, classic-boat sailor and historic aircraft pilot. He is also the brother of Canadian astronaut Chris hadfield . Had the privilege of working on the Y2K Spitfire as well as the P51 of mike potters collection. Its niece to see this aircraft finally take to the air after years of restoration.
WW2 occurred a few years before I was born. But I met dozens of true Combat Veterans throughout my childhood and teen years!
Of poor health myself, I have never served.
BUT, to this very day, I never miss an opportunity to met, shake hands with and THANK each and every Vet I can!
The men and women who served back then (my Mother-in-law was a lady Marine!) truly were Americans GREATEST GENERATION!
And God Bless every one!
Brilliant plane, brilliant footage to experience the thrill of flying this icon of WW2 that gives a glimpse of flying her yourself !! Thank you to all involved for making this possible !!!
rabbit too damn bad the $hitfire was so short legged, limited range to REALLY be an effective fighter !!!
My father, Lt John Hogan, DFC, 2 Squadron, SAAF, flew Mk IX's in combat in the Italian campaign. It was great to see what he would have experienced in flying Spitfires.
The spitfire and hurricane was the first fighters that stopped the German Luftwaffe
Its something mythical that so few of these craft managed to halt a tidal storm of tyranny from crashing down on Britain. They were the first to stop Hitlers advance from ever pushing forward.
The hurricane never gets it's due credit though.
If you were a Luftwaffe pilot unlucky enough to be shot down...it was always a spitfire that got them. there was a certain snobbery being hit by a spitfire and not a hurricane even though there were far more Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain period......
The Hurricane did most of the work in the BoB yet you rarely see people appreciate it. Both aircraft were amazing.
@@thatoneguy7451 Even the Luftwaffe pilots boasted of being shot down by Spitfires, not the Hurricane ...more quedos amongst one piers.
I was born near kenley aerodrome in Surrey it was one of the airfields used in the Battle of Britain and through the war ,and as kids we used to roam around the empty barrack buildings ,and later when it was used as a base for glider pilots a spitfire was placed at the gate as a memorial and most days I walked past it ,,now I get to fly in one what an amazing sound ,
Thank you for the great flight in the Spitfire one of my favorite British fighters of WW2. Just awesome!
Thank you for the ride sir !!!
That was stunning. Amazing how fast is went from a stand still to airborne.
I am here because this was my favorite plane to fly in War Wings and I saw it again in War Planes Battle over the Pacific. I have so much respect for those who flew these beasts and fought for us. 🫡
What a display! this is how to fly such a precious, historic, beautiful vintage aircraft. No need for loops, rolls and chandelles, just to see her in the air, spot on!! Superb piloting!!! Thank you!!!!
An honor flying with you Dave, thanks for taking me (us) along for a flight in that beautiful Spitfire. You are one lucky dude!! Cheers.
Thank you so much for this video!!! The Merlin engined Spitfire is beautiful even from the inside!!
I'll never forget the feeling flying this wonderful bird in the skies, one of the best.
I'm a pilot and the first model I built as a child was the Spitfire. Never got to fly one but I did get to sit in the cockpit of one at Reno a few years ago and I was very surprised at how cramped the cockpit was and how poor the forward visibility is while on the ground. I looked at the CAF pilot and told him I thought I could fly it and he said sure you could, now get out.
Felt my spirit soar with you!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience!
With what an ease do you fly ! ... all kudos to Mr. Dave Hadfield. All the details from the cockpit we show that Spitfire is maintained with expertise and love, also ,a quality film-making... calm and stable helmet cam ...Appreciate to ASV.
Fantastic! Thanks for the ride.
Thanks for let me ride with you. Fantastic and fascinating this flight. Greets from Germany.:)
A beautiful piece of British history
Nice plane! GPS was crucial during WWII but few people used it because of the shortage of satellites due to the U boats.
you what?
Lol
goofyfoot2001 is casting his hook out...Everyone knows that the U-boats didn't need SatNav because they used their terrain following radars on the surface of the sea. :-)
I am baffled by your statement, there where NO satellites in WW2 they did not have rockets capable of launching into space or computers back then and no one had invented microchips for use in computers.
@@dambuster6387 Much must baffle you young paddawan
Absolutely stunning.👏🇬🇧👏 thank you for making and posting this.
Magnificaent aircraft!! Thanks for sharing this amazing footage with us fellow aviation enthusiasts!! Keep up the great work.
What a plane...a true thing of beauty. Sounds amazing too
I enjoyed this video so much. The sound of the engine is just music. Awesome vantage point.
i love how he doesn't close the canopy until after take and then opens it before landing , exactly how it should be done ! bravo , amazing video
That was a fine run. I really enjoyed going along for the ride!
The best looking and sounding plane of all time I'm my eyes
Some of those low passes had me holding my breath! Absolutely outstanding video - thank you so much!
What a wonderful tour around the airfield with the roaring sound of the motor in my ears :) Brilliant! Thank you!
Thank you for showing what a real pattern looks like. I have seen so many fly out there for miles ( literally) and it's infuriating. I was taught that a pattern size is governed by if you loose your engine you should be able to get onto the airport. Being that it is a beautiful Spitfire made it all the more enjoyable.
More and more I find myself absolutely thrilled by the sight, even a sound of a spitfire makes me want to shed a tear, there is something about these craft that hits something deep down. I spend so much time in VR with some nice HOTAS Flight sticks and learning to fly these beautiful things. Understanding the sheer detail to keep these in the air is just amazing. The dream to be in his shoes, if i ever won lotto, I know what I'll be spending my time on.
Landing that way it was awesome, I did it in simulators, never thought it was possible in real...salute and thanks to share this video
Beautiful! Thank you..
one day I will fly in a spit, its been a long held desire , along with a flight in am english electric lightning , borne out of air show days at RAF St Athan as a young lad with my dad and brother in south wales . Those memories leave a lifelong impression on you, along with spits flying over my current house on the way to and from airshows . Watching videos like this stir the emotions to say the least , so many thanks for posting. Long live the merlin!
who else used to dream about flying one of these as a child. I still do now to be honest. The sound of the engine and the way the spitfire looks are just amazing. Such a wonderful feat of engineering and craftsmanship. If I was super rich I would own two of these. One for me and one for my brother. Rigged up with lazer tagging guns. For fun. With sound effects too.
Soooo jealous. Fantastic
Goosebumps and noseprints on the monitor.
Magnificent
Every time I discover something ''new'' ... the Spitfire Mk. IX is the best and the most beautiful ever. Thanks AS.
Excellent 👍 , great to see a cockpit veiw of this magnificent aircraft.
Reg Mitchell may have been an engineer but he drew lines like a fine artist.
I enjoyed every minute of this flight, thank you.
This is one of the best warbird cockpit immersion experience I have ever seen!
Amazing video and sound 👌
Fantastic video love to see history preserved and displayed to people so they can learn from it
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing this piece of aviation history.
OMG that was sensational- she is truly a living thing, much more than a machine and the sum of its parts. It is perfection !! I can’t help but get emotional when I see a Spitfire in real life, no other aircraft has that same aura. Thank you
I can't get over how big this plane looks from the inside of the cockpit.
There an elevated shot in one of my many Spitfire books of a Spit parked next to something like a Cessna, the size difference is amazing.
Fabulous!!! The people who get to fly these aircraft are the luckiest and probably happiest in the world. I do think though that those that give a thumbs down to great videos like this should be made to give their reasons for doing so, rather than being smugly anonymous.
As if your skills weren't amply displayed previously in the flight, that landing was a thing of beauty. Simply outstanding.
I saw the aircraft at Comox years ago and got a close up tour around it during the early stages of the restoration. The restoration is magnificent.
briggsquamtum More $hitfires were destroyed in ground handling accidents/take offs/landings that the enemy destroyed, narrow unstable undercarriage, a compromise to less weight, have fuselage hold landing gear rather than wing !!!
thanks for that, excellent!
As a Spitfire worshipper, I found myself completely mesmerised by this vid! Well done!!
Absolutely Wonderful!
Saving hard for my very own go on a spitfire, £3000 well spent!
Superb camera recording, top notch!
I was watching the flyover. Pure joy at such a beauty. Enjoyed and created memories to last a lifetime.
Fantastic plane and vid! Thanks for sharing, and greets from the Netherlands!
Seen it first hand. Pretty airplane.
You Don't get to ride in a Spitfire often. Epic !
Thanks for the ride.
The most revered aircraft ever in military history. without such the world would have been a very different world today.
I salute all the souls who flew her and it's essential that we keep these wonderful birds flying, this not only honours the brave men and women who served and changed the course of history. but keeps the spirit alive of all that fell in pursuit of our freedoms.
That was bloody awesome.
Had to double tap the rewind after he first fired it up 🙌🏽
