Retired farmer here. Raised a lot of four legged animals. Learned quickly that any diet change must be slow or the animal will suffer a set back. Think of switch-over from winter feed to spring forage. Makes total sense for humans to change diet gradually. I recommend keeping a journal and monitoring as many health metrics day by day as you can. I'm an older man. Guessing that seniors need even longer than usual transition plans and more careful monitoring. Everyone is different. Our capacity for example to digest fat in the diet requires a healthy pancreas with unblocked or unchoked tubes. So the health of the liver and other organs will impact ability to transition.

Most medical doctors are ignorant about nutrition and other modalities for treatment. They think what they have learned in medical school is the only way and are quite arrogant about it and narrow-minded to other options. I also went to the cafeteria to buy nuts for snacks, & saved bread, since the gaps beteen meals was too long - tbere might have been tea breaks of sugary biscuits.

I used to think all these fad diets are marketing gimmicks to sell books and it’s best to eat in moderation. At 46, I switched to keto (to support my wife). I’m sleeping better, no afternoon naps/slumps, snoring went away, energy levels up 10-20%, concentration up. I eat only twice a day even though I was hyperglycaemic most of my life. My belly is shrinking. It’s really crazy and it’s only been 6 weeks. I’m still experimenting with what exactly to eat, but mostly meat is awesome! I hope this helps someone.

It’s so sad seeing this movement towards high fat/meat/carnivore, at the expense of the immensely enjoyable breads, pasta and other loved carbs.. what’s so sad, is this movement has largely started in the US, where grains have become industrialized, gmo, pesticide, over processed franken foods. I just returned to the U.S. from a year in Europe, had breads and pasta like you wouldn’t believe, and my thyroid numbers were better than they’ve been in years, on half the medication! Since I switched to a primarily plant pleased diet over 10 years ago I was able to reverse multiple health issues including IBS, h pylori, GERD, chronic constipation, headaches, migraines, menopause issues. My sister reversed clogged arteries going vegan, she was keto before. By large, most Americans are big meat eaters, why are they so sick & overweight/obese. I must say though that I do include eggs, sardines and mackerel in my diet once in a while and I find that I’m clearer in my mental state when I eat these fatty fish. I agree, some diets are better for an individual than others. Obese despite eating meat are people who combine meat with carbs, seed oils/ fat and sugar in their diet. Those obese people don't normally eat only meat with say green salad or grilled non starchy vegetables. Their meat has fries as a side dish, fries being fried in highly processed canola oil, and I don't want to know how many times it is reheated. And they drink coke to it and have a dessert afterwards. And if the meat is in a bun or dough, and then processed sweetened ketchup, mayo, etc... that's a lot of poison for the liver, which can't process that much of protein and fat and sugar and starts to store it in places we can watch the fat.

Avocados may support brain health in several ways, including:
    Healthy fats
Avocados contain monounsaturated fats, which may help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. They also contain oleic acid, a heart-healthy fat that can reduce inflammation in the heart and blood vessels.
    Nutrients
Avocados are full of nutrients that may boost brain and mood health, including vitamin E, folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, potassium, and dietary fiber. They also contain tryptophan, an amino acid that can help balance hormones and improve mood.
    Lutein
Avocados are a good source of lutein, a xanthophyll that's important for cognitive health and is the main carotenoid in the human brain. One study found that daily avocado consumption improved attentional inhibition and increased serum lutein concentrations.
    B vitamins
Avocados contain high levels of B vitamins, including folate and vitamin B6, which may support the nervous system and help reduce stress.

It’s always great to hear that someone has implemented a change in their life and felt a positive benefit…and with so many conflicting opinions about what is “best”, I often wonder if it’s the act of self care that is the greatest thing a person can do for themselves. Whether it’s keto or plant or paleo…maybe the important thing is checking in with yourself about what you’re eating, and caring about it. I’m not trying to say that anyone is right or wrong; and I know what a luxury all of this choice is, but taking pause and not grabbing a bar of dairy milk, but thinking “what might benefit my body chemistry?” has got to be the biggest step on any of these journeys. I especially think about this when I read a comment that diet helped a person alleviate their depression, and I want to applaud the strength they had in themselves for change; the diet didn’t “cure” the depression, the individual found the strength to start a journey. I am so impressed by people who commit to such dedicated nutrition. I’m still finding my path, I’m thankful for all of the resources on RUclips. This was an interesting video.

    Interesting, very intelligent.
What I hear so far is that high protein and animal/saturated fats is best, let your body produce the glucose as needed. Seems logical, but from what I hear the gut biom feeds on fiber. Apparently if we don't consume fibre the bacteria in our gut starts to chew on the lining of the large intestines, causing leaky gut syndrome, or more specifically a wide range of stomach problems.
I believe this to be the purpose of fruit and vegetables, unless if there are other sources of fibre?
I enjoyed the information you provided, nutrition is much more important then most doctors realize, lol.
I had been seeing the same doctor for more then 30 years with what he diagnosed as Irritable bowel syndrome, and after he told me that he could not do anything for me, I asked him what he thought about me trying a gluten free diet. He answered that those things, like Naturopaths is for crazy people, it will just cost you a lot of money, and on and on he went. He sure had the look of a doctor, but he never was able to help me.
So, I did the research, tried a gluten free diet for 6 months, and all my issues disappeared.
Glutamate is what excites the brain's nerve cells, MSG was classified as an excitotoxin by a US doctor, brain surgeon. MSG can send your brain into a frenzy of non-stop brain cell firing until complete exhaustion and death. So many poisons in our food supply, don't get me started about aspartame, lol.
The blood brain barrier has been eroded significantly by a constant onslaught perpetrated on it with man made food additives that turn-out not to be so harmless, but rather unhealthy and very destructive to human health. Money is pretty much what most people think about these days. Make profits, it doesn't matter if you have to hurt some people, just get the money, let's burn the planet down. Crazy stuff.

I feel like everyone who says we don’t need carbs are usually quite sedentary people. Having fruits, veges and other complex carbs have always been fantastic for me in terms of longevity in exercise. Like yeah if your sat in an office all day don’t spike your blood sugar because your not actually doing anything to get the energy into your cells. But when you’re moving all day you can get that energy in the cells without having to release any insulin. Like if I’m out on a long bike ride I’d much rather eat an apple to keep me going than a piece of chicken.. totally agree that refined simple carbs are terrible but I feel like fruit and veges definitely have a place in an active life style. And let’s not forget, an inactive life style isn’t entirely normal.. it’s only in the last few hundred years we’ve started being sedentary all day at work.. getting a spike in blood sugar is great when your exerting yourself, in fact I’d argue that it’s totally necessary sometimes. But if you’re sitting on your backside all day every day and wondering why your blood sugars won’t go down I think that might be it’s own problem.

Keep a good diary of your bp, meds, daily weight, and have your bloodwork in hand when visiting your doctor. Be a partner in your own health. My doctor took me off bp meds after she saw my diary. I told her I stopped them six months prior b/c my bp was going too low. She also didn't like my overall cholesterol levels but my HDL and triglycerides were great. She wanted to prescribe statins again but knew I would not take them ever again. So she gave me a carotid scan and found no plaques. She relented.

There are many compounds that are better absorbed when taken in tandem with other foods. Curcumin is one of them and all you really need is fat and.or black pepper.. To label it as an irritant is a weird turn of semantics. It is a catalyst for certain internal systems to activate, as are many hormetic agents and antioxidants. I like a lot of the messaging here but there were so many incomplete statements and studies left out of the mix.

@joeyjreid The Curcumin supplement I take eliminated the daily joint pain I used
to have. It was recommended by my doctor since I have sensitivities/ allergic reactions to so many drugs. I am amazed at age 70 that I am pain free, when so many of my friends suffer with joint pain endlessly.

Some fats, red meat, white meat, are harmful and very unappealing… they are animals for Heaven sake… i too am protecting my kidneys by reducing blood pressure and enjoying a mainly vegan diet adding coconut oil., nuts, beans and corn… And will add some eggs and fatty fish and occasional gouda cheese (vitamin k2) ..it is aesthetically pleasing as well as healthy. Carnivore 90% for past year. I’m feeling so sick atm. Ate the best grass fed steak tonight cooked in burnt butter. So good that I cooked and ate a second. And now I can’t move- groan. 5’3” female , 600 g of steak in one sitting is too much. But I know that my stomach is tight cos it’s full of nutrious meat, and not bloating from veg. And tomorrow I’ll wake up feeling great always, and I will feel full, and not sick. And I know I won’t feel hungry all day. Freedom from hunger is amazing. And maybe I’ll keep it 400g for dinner tomorrow 😁

I suffered from a mental depression years ago which lasted for years. I bought a product from Twin Labs called DMAE-H3. It was supposed to help with keeping skin looking younger. I noticed after taking it for about 4 weeks that my depression lifted, it was as if someone had turned on a light in my brain. It also helped my daughter with post partum depression. Unfortunately they discontinued this product. Wish they would bring it back, the powdered DMAE does not work the same way.

Alzheimer’s is characterized by the buildup of a protein called beta-amyloid, which forms sticky plaques on the brain and can cause brain cells to die. Testing for the presence of these amyloid plaques on the brain is an important part of Alzheimer’s diagnosis and research.
There is a blood test that can accurately predict the presence of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain.
There is no verifiable link between stains and dementia. There are controllable risk factors for dementia and since nearly half of all dementia is linked to these risk factors, it might be more beneficial to focus efforts there. However, I agree it's easier to live and let live and blame medications instead.

@@danielawolf.1 My diabetes was so out of control and I felt horrible all the time. I felt relief when I cut the carbs. If you have a hard time, do it in steps. Cut refined sugars, breads and pastas and continue to eat a few pieces of fruit. When you feel better, cut your fruit to berries only. After that step stop eating high carb veggies. When I did this I thought with every bite, “ Do I want to keep my eyesight”? Thinking this way makes it easier. Make sure you drink enough water. That will also help. You have got this!💗
