    I got one of the new non-prescription CGMs several weeks ago, and it seems to work fine. I used to use a Libre Freestyle CGM, and this is comparable. If you haven't tried one and have any blood sugar issues, they are a revelation - so much better than finger sticks. You can really see what foods are doing to your blood sugar.

    • @beginner1991
      @beginner1991 Час назад

      Just a word of warning, that they can have pretty serious artifacts from how they measure blood glucose. Anything that affects blood flow will impact the measurement. When sleeping and lying on the arm you will get a "compression low". If you are not diabetic, turn off the alarms because they will happen likley multiple times a night. On the other side anything that increase flood flow increases the value. one is "hot" showering, actually just warm is enough, the other is physical exercise and even my basic stretching routine is enough to show a small spike, my gym workout, resistance training only, leads to gigantic spikes.
      These devices don't measure in the blood but the "liquid between the cells". blood vessels aren't 100% tight so some glucose leaks out. If you increase or block the flow, there is much more or much less glucose leaking, leading to an wrong reading.
      Besides that they can be quiet inaccurate and in an unpredictable way. It can be 10nmol/l too high for hours and then somehow it "self corrects" and it's almost comparable to blood prick. So in essence one should only use them to access spikes caused by food and how fast it comes down again and not worry too much about the actual numbers.

      @@beginner1991 All exercise increases glucose. Body builders get spikes when lifting but the muscles soak it up. You're right that the cgm is best to assess what foods are giving the big spikes.

    We also know that not all whey protein is created equal… There’s isolate and concentrate; there’s organic and nonorganic and grass fed; there’s all natural and with additives.
    The whey protein I use is from raw dairy, grass fed Jersey cows (A2), all natural with no additives… What are your thoughts on this type of quality whey protein?

    While whey protein can cause a temporary increase in insulin, it doesn't necessarily make it unhealthy for everyone. For many, especially those who are active or trying to build muscle, whey protein is an effective and convenient source of high-quality protein. Insulin spikes can also aid in muscle recovery when paired with resistance training.

      I saw a Sten Ekberg video recently showing different proteins and their absorbtion rates whey protein being at the bottom of the list below chicken and eggs are evidently the highest, the portion of the protein that doesn't absorb is metabolized into glucose so with whey it's 70-80% glucose
      Insulin is not that simple but it plays a similar role as HGH as anti catabolic not anabolic at all like leucine or something
      Having fat with protein is very anabolic apparently check out Dr Bikman on insulin and hypertrophy etc very interesting material

    Unfortunately I've been using the over the counter cgm Stelo and it's pretty inaccurate for my wife and I. The only good thing is, for me at least is that it's consistent in its inaccuracy. It reads about 20 points higher than blood test at all times. So at least I can see basic trends.

      Also have to consume more than double the amount of soy protein to get a similar anabolic response to that from beef for instance and very high in oxalate vs no anti-nutrients in animal products it's all about optimal but I promise you beef has loads of amino acids missing in soy

  • @Swearengen1980

    People don't eat beans for amino acids, most people eat them because to stretch a meal out and be more filling. Make a burrito bowl without black beans, hungry before bed. Make one with black beans, not hungry before bed. Beans are also cheap, whereas in my area, ground beef is $7/lb at the cheapest and whole cuts are worse. I barely eat steak anymore because any decent cut is $25-$30 a pop. It's like you people pretend inflation doesn't exist when you keep saying to eat more meat. I'll say it, this fear mongering tactic that a bean is protecting itself from being eaten is nothing is mostly grifting to buy their books, watch more of the videos, thus ads, etc.

      Yeah we used to love beans 😄 but check out the zinc absorbtion study Dr Paul Mason talks about it's eye opening, black beans blocked about 50% of the zinc absorbtion from oysters, corn tortillas blocked essentially 100% of the zinc absorbtion

      Keep in mind that the bean is healthy is the propaganda from the opposite end of the spectrum. Researchers since the 70s convinced us that low fat, plant based diets were healthy. This was done as part of the research to identify why heart disease was increasing. Researchers included Ancel Keys and the Seventh day Adventist who, for their own reasons, promoted a plant based diet. They came up with the red meat and saturated fat is bad theory and that plants are good. Actual cause was tobacco but the tobacco companies were happy to spend millions to push this research, mainly because this masked their involvement and allowed them to continue to Mint money. This also gave rise to a lot of processed food which is overwhelmingly plant based. Unfortunately, heart disease, obesity and diabetes kept increasing steadily despite people following this dietary recommendation. You have a good point about the cost of meat but keep in mind that the driver is the amount of resources dedicated to growing plants over meat. It is a supply and demand thing. Less availability of meat drives up prices. If you are happy eating beans, and are healthy, go for it. There is no one correct diet. If there are things in your health that you would like to change though, these are options. Keep in mind that you do not need to buy books or join paid programs for knowledge. Luckily RUclips is free. You just need to learn to separate the knowledge from the noise. Good luck in your health journey 🙏

      I agree with you beans help stretch a meal and meat is very expensive. But the truth is the cheapest cut of meat is still better for you than any bean and that has nothing to do with book sales. I truly hope and pray you can find a way to afford to eat this way. God bless you.

  • @edgetransit3320

    Grains and legumes being on that list is pretty nonsensical. This is why I'm starting to dislike RUclips. Lots of ppl basically pushing their own agendas. One person will say fruits are bad. Another will say meat is bad. Before you know it, a diet of air will be optimal.

      Fasting can also be really good for you too. Carnivore and ketosis are amazing for health though. Works really well for a lot of us. Try it for 90 days and see for yourself.

    • @T-aka-T
      @T-aka-T 55 минут назад

      Why "nonsensical"" ?
      Grains are full of glyphosate, chemical fertilizer and pesticides - especially WHOLE wheat - as glyphosate is also used as a desiccant very close to harvest. So the "healthy whole grain" push is misguided.
      As for legumes, they are full of lectins (which damage the delicate single-cell layer of the gut). Red kidney beans are SO toxic that eating 3 or 4 raw could kill you.That's why then need to be soaked and cooked and basically de-poisoned to be even edible.
      So that gives you two reasons which, even if you don't agree those things are bad, at least should suggest sensible rather than nonsensical reasoning. 🙏
      PS I agree that most standard nutrition "science" of the SDA-influenced type is junk science (questionnaire-based nutritional epidemiology) - and it can be a pain to sort through evidence. But isn't the answer self-education (as in other aspects of life)? The world is FULL of nonsense. 😊

      I replied but it was deleted. Hmmmm.
      In brief (1) glyphosate is used as a desiccant right near harvest, so whole wheat is esp. bad.
      (2) Lectins in legumes. Plus phytotoxins - eg red kidney beans have to be soaked and boiled. Very toxic.
