    Assembling a bike step 1 - insert a greased seatpost and clamp the frame in the workstand by the seatpost, not the frame! Prevents paint damage, especially if there’s a tubing decal right there under the top tube.

    I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. My old Miyata touring bike is showing its age, and I've been considering a Pass Hunter build.

    I agree with you on greasing the bb spindle- one seized on crank arm is all it took for me to never look back

    My Polyvalent frame arrived just a few days ago. I have VO components on most of my bikes. However, this will be my 1st VO frame. This series is timed perfectly!

    I’ll second the install a seatpost first comment. Having a seatpost in the frame will prevent any damage while torquing the bottom bracket as shown in the vid. I like to stick my arm through the frame and use my shoulder or arm pit to counter the torque force as well.

    No need to chase and face the bb ?
    Thanks

    • @velo_orange
      @velo_orange  Год назад +2

      Nope, that facing and chasing is done before paint. In the hundreds of frames we've done, we haven't felt the need to do it.

    I like that colour. I like cromoly frames as I had my bmx made from tange cromoly as a kid and it was light and tough. I'm curious as to why you used a tapered cartridge bb?

    • @velo_orange
      @velo_orange  Год назад +2

      That's what is compatible with our cranksets. They're easy to maintain (basically nothing to do) and are easy to install.

    Great post, but ... Haha, possibly no one rode a scooter in PBP-2009 since there was no such event. PBP 2007 and PB 2011, both of which I rode. I did pass a scooter on the third day in 2011 and I asked how he was doing. He said he was desperate to sit down! (I was desperate to get off the bike!).

    Man I want to build one of these! My Campeur will suffice in spades till then!
    Thought, anyone familiar with crank orbit? Every time I mount cranks on a square taper, I try all 4 positions with the drive side and look from above, and spin. Each spindle and crankset combo will have one of the positions fit better than the rest, just due to sliiight manufacturing anomalies.

    • @velo_orange
      @velo_orange  Год назад

      sometimes that does happen. Sometimes it helps to take the rings off, re-grease and re-assemble. Or get it as best as you can and use a wrench and slightly bend the outside of the ring to better match the plane of the front derailleur

      We don't offer the fork separately currently.

    • @mitmon_8538
      @mitmon_8538 Год назад +2

      @@velo_orange Thanks much for the reply. I understand it may not make sense to offer it separately as most people "upgrade" to carbon. I don't know if I've seen any other fork with the same attributes as the Pass Hunter's, though. Steel, thru axle, with a tapered steerer is pretty specific, in my opinion. If I could find a way to make the Pass Hunter frame work with my Shimano Alfine 11 IGH and Belt drive, I'd get the whole thing. I LOVE the wishbone seat stay design.

    • @velo_orange
      @velo_orange  Год назад +4

      @@mitmon_8538 We're soon going to be carrying an eccentric bottom bracket for bsa bottom brackets. There's also a cool belt company that makes a belt that is pinned, so you can run a belt drive on non-belt drive compatible frames. We had a customer do that on a Neutrino.

    Love the video up until you grease the spindle. Had a mild heart attack watching that part. Been a pro mechanic for a long time and this goes against everything I know about square tapers. Otherwise love the video and keep up the good work (except the greasing spindles part :)!
