Very cool to see VO still putting out old school frame designs that make sense no matter what era it is. Definitely a top ten steel frame for the modern sport touring/rando cyclist.
I like the new VO build, but that Waterford frame is beautiful. It deserves something retro, like a Suntour Superbe Pro build, just like the VO deserves silver brakes! 😁
It’s great to see a channel, finally representing my kind of cycling. I’ve been doing this kind of thing for many years. Incidentally, I met Igor in France one year at the Anjou Velo Vintage. He spotted my crazy bars. A nice guy and I still have a photograph on Instagram to remember the moment. It’s a shame, it’s so difficult/expensive to get hold of Velo Orange parts in the UK
That era of Dura Ace is wonderful. Great video! My level of comfort really doesn't fit this style anymore but you are bringing great products to market.
I ran into the same problem with the Dura-Ace brakes. Picked some BR-7800s cheap to replace my Tektro R559 on my Rando frame, thinking they'd just fit, but were a bit off. I ended up buying the Velo Orange brakes and am looking forward to getting them.
Good job, Igor! A bit of a shame about the brakes, but it all turned out okay nonetheless. The details in bronze and copper will match the frame great once they develop some patina. Thanks for all the tips throughout the video.
Great video. I’m hoping I can get some clarification on proper torque settings for the crank arm bolts. I see everything from 18 Nm to 40 Nm on the internet. Enjoy your day my friends.
It really depends on the crank. I never use a torque wrench on square taper, just make it tight. But there are some 2 piece cranks (like Dub) that require a very high torque setting so a wrench is a must.
I do the same thing when swapping a bottom bracket cartridge. Installing the non-drive-side first helps align the cartridge with the threads and helps prevent cross-threading.
Maybe I missed what cabling he is using for the rear derailleur but he should not be using brake cable for shifting. Derailleur cable housing is different from brake cable housing that's designed to resist compression that's not an issue with shifting derailleurs.
Awesome video guys. Let's me get to know you as bike people which is important for me. I will look for you guys when I need some parts for some of my bikes in the future. Nice video
Love it beautiful bike. I had a set of those ultegra flight deck shifters on my 1st road bike 20 years ago they where super nice sold it 5 years ago should have kept that bike forever 😂
I'll swap them out when they are worn out. I'll likely go with the ultradynamico 700x33 or something from Continental. I've been digging their offerings lately.
Small-small works just as good in practice as big-big. As long as the small-small config pulls a tad of tension off the rear derailleur and there's no rubbing, it will translate to big-big just fine. Benefit of small-small is less fighting with tensions while you 'measure' it.

masterclass by a seasoned professional🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I’m in agreement with grease on the tapers!
beautiful dura ace rear mech, they really dont make em like they used to.

Nice, clean install. They really do go smoothly when you have the right tools.
That is a beautiful bike. I can't wait to get my custom steel bike from the builder.
Nice build. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

Glad to hear from you! Hope you're well!

Creamy housing and brass ends are such a classy looking combo!
Great video and cool build! RIP mashed chainring @39:32 😂
Lol it survived to thrash another day
did not know that trick on the front derailleurs!! I’ll definitely be using one of those on a build. I hope that waterford goes to a good home!
Love the rubbery bar tape. My new favorite. And that rando frame is nice!

I really want to do this with your Rando frame! I’m saving up for one and hoping you still have one when I can afford it.
We're working on completes!
A flat bar version complete would hit a nice price and suit some of us.
Beautiful in the sunshine.

Lovely. But i still 'hate' the black ubrake though LOL
Those shifters have a very satisfying click
Wish you still made the rando handlebar and the Campeur! Love your products!

Miss those logovers!
Great vid! I'm a firm ish believer in the california cross 😤
I’ve named my rando V8. V for Velo and 8 for the 8mm hole I drilled the frame for the rear brake. I might be the only one that has done that 🤩
Such a handsome frame!
Awesome video guys. Let's me get to know you as bike people which is important for me. I will look for you guys when I need some parts for some of my bikes in the future. Nice video
Thanks for the kind words!
Tunnocks...cannae beat 'em!
Nice build. Timeless. Are the handlebars too high?
The pickle was very good, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Wow, that's a great bike. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!

Beautiful build well done 👍
If I own the bike, I'll put tons of clear tape on that beautifull frame 😀 cable and pants rubbing not to mentions pebbles gonna scratch the paint
If you grease the taper the crank will only crack if it has the words " Middleburn RS3 " stamped on it ( little bike mechanics' joke for you there ).
One word… style
Beautiful build!
Thank you!
Coffee and a tunnocks is 5 stars.
118mm Botom bracket may be OK with a 130mm OLD rear frame but my older 126mm OLD frame needs something a little shorter
Those tires look awfully skinny for that bike. Are you planning to swap those out at any point?
I'll swap them out when they are worn out. I'll likely go with the ultradynamico 700x33 or something from Continental. I've been digging their offerings lately.
28C is perfect for unloaded touring. they'll handle the bumps just fine, if you stay on the road, that is.
How much do you want for the Waterford?
treefitty
I’m sad you guys don’t have 1x cranks in stock anymore
They'll be back in stock soon!
So we're calling 10 speed STI levers "non-aero" now? Weird way to tell me I'm getting old, but ok.
I feel you. I was thinking they are like 10 years old or something....these components came out in 2004 and 05.....
Very nice. Not a fan of the color of the bar tape
Any reason you stopped selling Fairweather tires?
Good question. The larger 32 and 38mm versions are not tubeless compatible and folks opted to go with something else - so sales 📉
No audio?
grease the taper. they sorta reform every time anyhow so. just match the proper BB to the cranks spec.
10:40 that's not how you size a chain.

@fstopstigmata if it's the same in the end fine.. but I'm tired of fixing bikes shifting issues by removing two links
Dwarling! why not spend a little time bolting down the vice!!! so it does'nt wobble around
he is fan of cross-chaining, I rest my case
