Thats exactly the reason I love teardrop trailers. I've done rooftop tents but as I get older I appreciate the zero setup time to go to sleep in a warm cozy cocoon seconds after arriving at camp. They have their downsides but the pros outweigh the cons. Great video. I need to get a new skydio drone. Your videos look epic.

It's almost bittersweet watching these videos. Retirement is a year closer, the Tacoma has now been ordered, the camper is coming next year and all I can think about is making a beeline for southern Utah when I finally get the chance......but not just yet. Your channel has played a significant role in my future plans, so thanks for what you do. Also, watching you with that Tundra on the trails makes me feel so much better about going with the Tacoma instead. The Tundra can get there but it's just too much...at least that how it looks on video. Thanks again.
if you don't need the towing and cargo capacity the Tacoma is the way to go.
You don’t have long! The Tundra is a fantastic vehicle, but desperately needs a lift for a better break over angle.

Absolutely love that area and the camping out there. We made a run through last fall and enjoyed the heck out of it. Thanks for the great reminder of the area. Also watching you jump into the camper after the night drive reminds me why I go sometimes want to retire the ground tent!
You're giving us Brits a good overview of beautiful places to overland to. Teardrops are more common kn UK due to the narrow roads here.

This may be one of my new favorite channels (not sure why i didnt watch it earlier) if the rest of your content is this good. I was researching the Toroweap / Mt. Trumbull route just last month and also own a Stock Ram 1500 with offroad teardrop so the irony in this video is high. Very great content, scenery, production and storytelling. Extra kudos for caring about not ripping up the trail for "content", very respectable.

Love this place, we did twin point, whitmore point and toroweep in October. Amazing place! Thank god for rotopax, the Cruiser was only getting 9 mpg😬. We will be heading back there in April 👍😊
By April fuel will probably be close to 5 bucks a gallon. 😕

Ouch! Towing the camper off road I wasn't getting a whole lot better, but the 32 gal fuel tank helps a lot.

I mainly just used the camera systems! I had the multi terrain select on when climbing up the hill to Toquerville Falls the night before I started this video, but it wasn't strictly necessary. I haven't needed crawl control or the rear locker.
I’ve got a Tacoma and home built tiny off-road camper. I thought about upgrading to the tundra but I like the smaller size of my truck sometimes.
Tacoma is definitely going to be easier on the tight trails, but the Tundra is really nice off road!

Trailer looks pretty cool. I built a square drop trailer in 2020 and love it. There’s definitely pros and cons on hauling a trailer on trails.
Definitely! It's right on the line as to whether or not it's worth it for me, so I ended up with an iKamper since it's considerably cheaper than a trailer!
@@RevereOverland I've got the trailer I built, rtt, and a Gazelle t4 tent. I prefer the Gazelle T4 over my roof top tent. Alot easier to set up. Kinda over the rtt. Lol

A little FYI for those watching Toroweep requires a backcountry camping permit you can get in St George. Also there is a total length restriction of 21’ I believe that I am sure the truck trailer exceeds.

I'd like to give you a hard time about your microwave dinner, but the reality is: simple is better. Nothing worse than forcing a complicated meal after a long day on the trail! Hard lesson to learn is to work smarter, not harder lol. Great video with awesome shots!

Fantastic video. Your mud video reminded me of early May in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Had to really scale back my expectations of where I could go. The dirt roads were either muddy or refrozen snow at the higher elevations. The refrozen snow could be very icy… I am a part 107 drone pilot and have had to do a lot of homework about land under National Park management. Your time lapse photography was gorgeous. I also do tracked night sky photography. I have wandered around in area between Mesquite Nevada and St. George looking for the lack of light pollution.

I'm curious to see if you go back to the towable again. My wife and I love having our fully off-road capable trailer to travel in because it's windproof, has a full pull out kitchen I built out in back and there is very little set up plus we have a place to hang out when the weather is not the best. Yeah, there is a trade off in that we have a towable but it suits us well.
I have an iKamper on the way that I'll be putting on the Tundra. The trailers are more difficult during the day, but having a sealed place to sleep and hang out out of the weather was really nice!

I'm in the process of fixing up my ram lift, bigger tires and bumper with winch. Unfortunately my little epro camper will have to be equipped with an articulating hitch so will have to cut and weld one on.
Me and the boys were at Toq falls on Jan 27th and went to Grand Canyon the day after. You basically camped at both exact camp spots we camped at

This is what I'm looking forward to doing, want to lift my truck a little and put better tires, also replace plastic skid plates with more protection. We have a Patriot camper on order so hopefully I'll have the truck upgraded by then. I know having full sized Tundra is a hindrance but I hope I can still get out there and do a good bit with those limitations and explore for ourselves, Great video!
Nice! The size of the Tundra really wasn't an issue for this trip other than the lack of ground clearance and breakover! A lift, tires, and some sliders will really help though.
@@RevereOverland Westcott Designs are working on sliders for the 2022, on my list. Also Communicating to C4 Fab. for Low pro front Bumper and Winch, this truck is going to cost me small fortune but hopefully the results are more fun in doing what we love. I have the off-road package, just a few mods should make it usable for our needs I hope, I can't afford another specific truck like a Tacoma or jeep.
Did you see CBI’s covert winch bumper? I was tempted, but I really need full bumper.
@@RevereOverland I did but don't think the 2022 version is out yet. I really don't want to go all out with this truck, I just need enough to get me out of trouble If I'm alone. Also this will keep the weight down, I really don't think I'll need protection from hitting animals or other obstacles. I feel anymore I just as soon get a Tacoma. Also I'll be hauling a patriot camper, it is a fine line I'm going to have to figure out what I can and can't do and set goals on how far I'll go with building out this truck, I need it for everyday travel to work etc. Really A dedicated truck would be ideal but not in my cards just yet!
@@scooty67 yeah it sounds as though a hidden winch or covert bumper is best for you! They released a picture of it on their Instagram story, but I think it's gone now.
Oh man... I did the Whitmore grand canyon overlook like 1 week later than you and that road was hard as rock....
The trail to the canyon overlook was great, but going from the schoolhouse over the mountains to Torroweap was really sloppy!
I am more interested in this Tundra build now that the 2023 Sequoia has been released!
The 2023 Sequoia looks fantastic! I just wish they had made the hybrid optional.

The Tacoma definitely needs the seat jackers, but the Tundra's seating position is fine without. I liked having them though - I usually lean forward a lot while off road, and it allowed me to put the seat up really high.

Haha, yeah. It got really hot coming down, and it cooled off nicely with the sunroof open! I did also get a little dusty though.
We came close to buying a Bean but the cooktop was too high to comfortably cook at for my wife. Other than that they seem well made.

when you do your lift, are you going to get some off-road bumpers as well so you have some recovery points? Do they even have aftermarket bumpers for these Tundras' yet?
There are a few that have been developed, but that aren’t available yet. I’ll be getting the lift done next week, but bumpers will be a little longer!

Yes and yes. Two vehicles give recovery options when neither have a winch. We also both produce videos for RUclips, so having our own vehicles allows us to tell slightly different stories!

I do RUclips and selling video footage for work, but I can afford the Tundra thanks to a lot of luck with the housing market!

Sprinters are terrible off road.
They probably have more clearance than my Tundra at the moment! I think they would be fine going out to the canyon, but would struggle going to Toquerville Falls.

I own a Sprinter Van, with 4 wheel drive. I took it to Toquerville Falls about 3 years ago and it did fine. All suspension was stock from the factory and I never scraped. When we arrived at the falls I did have some tree branches touch the side of the sprinter because of its height but it handled that trail fine. I would do it again. Great video here, thanks!
What kind of MPG's were you getting pulling the trailer?
A solid 12 mpg off road and the same at 80-85 mph on the highway.
Love the area. Was there Thanksgiving. How do you like the Tundra? We have one on reserve but unsure if it's the rig for us. We currently have a heavily modified 80 series but would like more room for ourselves and the kids for extended travel.
I love it. Super comfortable, great power, fantastic range. It definitely needs some mods though - lift, tires, armor, and winch are all big priorities.

@@RevereOverland nice. What size tire are you going to run? Everything I'm reading says to go with a 15 inch rims but I would like to stay atleast to a 17. I've got 20s on now
@@MountainMan677 the smallest wheel that will fit is a 17", but apparently 18" is the sweet spot for the Tundra. I have a 20% discount in the description if you're interested. I'll be doing 37" tires!

Which heated blanket are you using? Do you recommend it?
It’s just a 120v king sized one from Amazon. They’re all very similar, but this one has dual zones for me and the wife!

It’s definitely not as capable as the 4Runner was stock, but that’s down to the lack of ground clearance. I love the power, comfort, and space though! Definitely no regrets here!

Looking at Justin's heretic lights on the trail at night is the exact example of why Baja Designs are so much better......brighter.....better length.....better quality.....world of difference. I assume Heretic is sponsoring you as well, but would a shame if you slapped those mid grade lights on your new Tundra, versus going with the best. Just my .02...

I’ve been back in Kentucky for a couple of weeks, but the truck is still in Utah! A few companies in and around Salt Lake City needed the truck, so I left it with them.
Why are you trying to overland a stock Tundra? Toyota made a lot of questionable decisions on the new Tundra regarding overlanding / off-roading.
Why not? I wanted to take a trip and don't want to wait a month or more to modify it!
You got no recovery gear mate. Mi heads chocka hhaha.
I have 4 traction boards, a snatch strap, tow strap, tow hitch recovery point, several shackles, and a shovel. They’re no replacement for a winch, but definitely better than nothing!

Great Video, Great Editing just Too Much Music. Let us hear more engines, tires on the gravel road creak's & groans of the rigs & animals in the background. Give us What YOU hear Please. Even have music when you're talking. We know it takes a lot of time to edit vids, so take it easy on yourself & US.
No music makes for very boring videos. Drones don't record sound either, which makes it even worse.
Toquerville used to be a pretty mellow trail but has since been destroyed by the moronic sxs crowd.
Why would you not be able to fly drones there. It makes absolutely no sense at all. If I ever go there I will fly one if I want.
Due to the sheer number of people flying drones, bothering other visitors and the wildlife, the national park service banned drones on all land that they administer. As much as it sucks for me, I fully support it, because they can be a nuisance in the crowded and popular areas. Not so much of an issue out where we were, but with fines of $5,000, I certainly won’t be doing it!
@@RevereOverland if there's an over abundance of drones I could understand but a drone here and there doesn't harm anything. And definitely not as much as vehicles driving through there. Most people don't have them and they do not even leave a footprint.
