I had the special edition Billy Blazers Rescue Heros. both of them it's really cool to know an actual FDNY firefighter inspired and helped create them. The reason I got them when they came out was I grew up with 2 parents in the fire service. My father was a volunteer firefighter in NJ for 32yrs, my mother was also a volunteer in the same departments as my dad for about 23yrs as fire police and became a full fledged firefighter in 2003. I remember the day of 9/11 vividly. I was home sick from kindergarten and my dad was working from home and I was sitting on the futon in his home office watching TV while he was on a conference call when the news broke and my cartoons got interrupted. Well one of the people on my dad's conference call said " OH MY GOD! Please get to a TV now." My dad turned and said I have to go and hung up. We went to the fire house he volunteered at (he held the rank of Deputy Department Chief) both him and I did all the safely checks on the engines and opened every bay door and made sure those trucks were ready to rock and roll in case other station volunteers wanted to go help. Obviously my dad stayed with me and we just listened to the radio. But we did have a crew load up and go to NYC. They made it there in record time and I could tell my Dad wanted to be with them but had me because well I was sick. I now live in Central Florida when the volunteer departments are far and few between otherwise I would've followed in my parents footsteps.

I am so incredibly thankful that brave men and women like this man exist. They are the best of humanity. Willing to honor their oath at all costs, willing to give their lives to save others. These people restore my faith in humanity. I hope and pray that when I'm tested in that way that I would be as courageous, brave and honorable as them. I'm not a fire fighter or first responder so I don't mean it in that way, but that if I were in a situation like this I hope I would be half as brave as they were.
