      @@DeadKoby Yeah right. My new Marantz receiver isn't built anything like the old ones. Their $5,000 and up components are. I can't complain about the sound quality though.

    Nice! I got a Pioneer direct drive turntable, Pioneer CD cd player, and Sansui 661 receiver. The 70s and into the mid 80s was the golden age of stereo.

    oh the vintage receivers and that illumination the roller bearing and rubber bands at the tuner dial ! so cool . i always dreamed of that fisher component system behind the glass door ! saw one not long ago on curb side bulk pick up . some one cut all the cords for copper . i still grabbed it and am rewiring

      My friend had that stereo bar. It had the disco lights. I remember that very well.As ghetto as they were they probably got this deal. They might of has that TV too.

      this with low-fi woman with very limited volume(in sound) was perfect, i remenber that was fashion to buy a bed with a stereo system on it and shelf´s to put books and cassettes ,a king size one

    WOW! That Korvettes commercial REALLY took me back a ways. You can't GEt good stuff that lasted from your teens til your CHILDREN'S teens anymore hahahah! The time when we were young and never thought of getting old (smile). great sound, GREAT food, before they told it it wasn't good for us anymore hahhha.

    Those vintage stereos were well built. Especially the High end pioneers like the SX1980. I guess I should have had it repaired instead of throwing it away in the 80's. I ran it wide open most of the time.

      @@brianchisnell1548 I have some reel to reel tapes that were recorded directly off Chicago FM radio. One from 1980 has several Pacific Stereo ads with their old jingle. So it must have been a national chain store?

    Great Commercials, back in the day when i would lust after all that equipment and couldn't afford nothing because I didn't make any money. Now i Have the money and the new equipment today sucks.

      @@edstephens8955 Mine was €1000 5 years ago. It's a very nicely built 2x120W class A/B amplifier. Sounds expensive, but adjusted for inflation it'd be $160 in 1970. The amp I have and am comparing is a Block V120 made in Germany.

    You know tech has come a long way since then. It's smaller, faster, does more and fits in your hand. BUT, There's nothing like the feel and sound of a quality stereo with big speakers in your house. Tall speakers with 12" woofers, equalizers with dancing lights, tape decks, ect. I miss the old times. You can't rattle the house with your music with a smart phone!

    My parents had that Sanyo compact stereo at 31:27, which I put through hours of use, listening and recording. It was a great unit, and ran speakers all over the house (kitchen, bathroom, outside, etc). It last for years until they wanted to finally get a CD player.

    Wow! Spent many an hour walking through the local Federated drooling on stuff I couldn’t afford. Bought my first ever receiver and speakers at Pacific Stereo. Lived walking distance from the HQ for Marantz and the original MFSL. Thanks for the memories!

    In town we had Pacific Stereo, Cal Stereo, Stereo West, Stereo Habitat, Systems Warehouse plus stereo departments (some with soundproof listening rooms) at Sears, JC Penneys, Alco TV & Stereo, Liberty House, Best Products, Federated and Gemco. Within a short driving distance were The Soundworks, Layfette Stereo, Quement Electronics, Good Guys and many more. Fun days!

      I still have my JVC-RD1969. You can get blank 7" on Amazon and also EBay. Main reason why we liked using those open reel machines was for the Sound on Sound recording feature.

      @@adamweston4152 The 70s were a real boom time for HiFi and a time of least inequality, even the CEO of IBM was nowhere near as greedy as Zuckerberg, Musk etc. It was the heyday of the middle class, a great time to be alive!

      ......also with the merging of audio/video as in home theater systems, audio has taken a quiet back seat but for people like myself, I still have a separate just audio hi fi system made up of mostly modern components. So “just “ audio systems are certainly not dead.

    I had to watch this ... What I found funny is the Columbia house order forms ... Lol ... I used 2 different name to get double the albums as a kid ... Then I used another ... And I got them !!! Who did not rip off that company as a kid . I would never do it now but being a kid in the 70"s ???? Lol

      I did that too. twice under two names. It felt so naughty. How did they every make money on this deal. Did anybody every actually buy anything? I never did. I still have an old Judas Priest (Sad wings of destiny, I believe) cassette from 1978. All the rest are lost in the mists of time.

    I just bought a Marantz. Lighted blue background with a white tuner. Dual meters. There is nothing in the world like the sound of analog. And I will tell you. even today. The Marantz is no where near inexpensive.

      Same here, who could afford a $1000 receiver, decades later I was buying the same stuff for $20 at garage sales.I had so much stereo stuff my house looked like a stereo store.
