just thought I would mention this but, you know the majority of ppl that watch how to videos don't know much about what ever it is they searched for. That's why they are watching the tutorial. That being said plz tell ppl how and where to find the tabs and pages you are opening other wise they will be lost. I may seem obvious to more experienced ppl but its a steep learning curve for others.
@@onomatrank5247 A Raw image can be opened in camera raw first once camera raw is set as the default raw editor. In camera raw there are about 10 taps on the right and at the top are the tools like the brush and grad filter. Once you have finished your raw editing you click "open" at bottom right and it will then open the picture file in Photoshop for final editing.
Joshua, Thanks for this tutorial. Although it was quick, I was able to follow along AND when needed back it up and or pause it as necessary. A lot of good info here for somewhat experienced PS hackers like me. I am looking to edit some photos I took on our vacation to the Grand Canyon. I have multiple exposures from tripod which I will stitch together then edit and have a 5 metal print mural for my wall when done. So I will be using your info plus others to create my mural. Again THANKS !!
Wow. I've been doing my post processing wrong. But then again i'm using Photoshop cs4. Thanks for the video, i learned a lot, my minds blown, I feel like an idiot.
Hi Josh, how do you decide when you're going to use Camera Raw and when Lightroom? I must admit my Lightroom is feeling very neglected and I tend to use it only when doing HDR.
Just starting out dslr photography. So you mean to tell me, all those beautiful landscape photos professional photographers take are actually photoshoped or edited and not the original? No wonder I couldn't take photos as good as what they post on social media.
If you mean adjusted in color, exposure, white balance etc then, yes. But i dont see it as a bad thing, we can't capture exactly the way we look at things so we make it look like we remember it, what i don't like is manor transformations in shape / reality like magazines does with models
Nic Antaya Hey Nic, I mostly use Photoshop but I finally caved in and purchased light room last month and I am learning it so that I can start making LR tutorials soon.
great video! I follow the work flow BUT! having a problem (When I process a RAW photo in camera raw, i do not get the same results as i saw in the preview pane when I open in photoshop). thanks
Hi Joshua! Love your photoshop tutorials, and this one specificly. I find them very helpful so thanks for that! One question though, what are the tools you're using in 0:24 ? Is it an option in PS or another software? Anyway, I could'nt find it on my PS CS3... Thanks :)
Yuval Oren Hey Yuval, this whole set of tools is Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). If you open any raw file with Photoshop then it will take you to ACR. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@Ryan Charles It's Adobe Camera Raw. From Photoshop, Use file > open as, then select ACR. You can also use ACR as a filter in Photoshop CC. Convert your image to a smart object, then Filter > Camera Raw Filter. Or, you can open in ACR from Bridge.
pretty new to photo and video editing, my question is do you recommend any other software besides Adobe that's not so expensive per month? maybe one that has a one time fee?
+peronvey - The first part of the video shows an image opened in Photoshop, but when he begins the editing process, he is using Adobe Camera Raw software to do the editing. At 3:54 minutes, he opens the image into Photoshop again.
You are supposed to use raw images when editing in PS, and Camera raw is what opens automatically when opening a raw file in PS. Camera raw is mostly an initial global editing tool, after your photo looks good you can open it in PS and make the more specific local adjustements.
I think I found the tool he was using - there's a Camera Raw Filter that gives you similar tools to what you would have when importing a RAW photo. This must be something with the newer versions of photoshop, or maybe I never noticed it before. Seems to help a lot with my way too blue photos! :)
Can u help me? I am a newbie to the photography world and learned a LOT with your videos. I have a Canon XTI and bought a 80-200 lens(canon). It shoots fine indoors, outdoors at night but during day, when I try to shoot long distances that it picks up fine, it gives error. Now at night I can do same distance and all, shoots fine. Is there something I need to change on my camera for long distant day time on that lens?
I got just a basic error 99. I took out card, both batteries, lens, everything, waited 20 mins, put back on, still showed that when I tried outdoor pic. I put on my other lens instead, everything works fine outdoors, in, everything. So my gut said after going through all possibilities its the lens. I sent it back and getting another one. Husband said may need to change the f aperature? Greek to me. I have been watching videos on it my canon and trying to learn as much possible. I am also going to take a class this summer at our local college. So I will see if this new one works, if not I may be back for help. haha. Thank you so much for the help! I just LOVE watching your videos and following you on FB!
Leslie Shirkey Sounds like it could be a problem with the aperture ring on the lens or the little metal contacts on the lens that communicate with the camera. Hopefully exchanging the lens will solve the issue. Good luck!
+Professional Photography Tips good call on the aperture ring. chances are the flex cable that controls the diaphragm is damaged; shooting smaller than a certain aperture will result in err 99. 17-85mm IS does this as well (avoid that lens at all costs).
Too fast for a beginner. I just started using RAW and I don't a have all the options that you have on the panel there. I'm also using Photoshop Elements 12. Is that my problem? Help! Sigh....
I have so much respect for the photography guides who don't show their face. They just get on with showing us what to do. Can't stand the guys who do 10 minutes of them pissing about at the beginning - we're not here to watch you, we're here to learn!
Why are you brightening the bottom part of the image with brightness when you could just expose your shadows by sliding the bar up? The results would be nicer and you wouldn't be wasting 5 minutes on an image that takes 20 seconds to process. You should also be adding contrast and clarity before doing anything else so you can judge highlights and shadows better.
Edgar Pifflewiff Because simply lifting the shadows too far makes them look washed out. This approach helps preserve the tonal relationships within the darker parts of image for better local contrast. But of course you are absolutely free to process things in your own way. Have fun!
Great, I guess, but Ansel Adams might just give up photography all together if he saw the amount of processing done to today’s photos. Sort of like Hollywood over using CGI/green screen on every movie.
Restraint, good taste and pretty plausible.

All I really needed is to see how to open this tab and the playground is mine ! easy tweaking, but how do you find it ? I guess in another video
@@love1another1evol I think when you shoot in raw and open image via photoshop, it will automatically open tabs for you to configurate image.

Damn you just read my mind
Quite the opposite for me.
Whoa, was not expecting to hear anyone say Table Mountain randomly on RUclips. My hometown! Thanks for this.
Just switching from lightroom to PS and was struggling to figure out the work flow...this helped a ton!
I admire the speed at which your brain works, something to behold.
Want to enjoy it even more? Watch it sped up 1.5X, it's AWSOME! :D

NewKidsBob Not enough fiber in their diets?
Too fast, probably.

Well, cheers, Fly Mpi, that's great to hear!
Hi Josh, how do you decide when you're going to use Camera Raw and when Lightroom? I must admit my Lightroom is feeling very neglected and I tend to use it only when doing HDR.
Really nicely done. The faster, the better; these are very helpful. You initiated the image in the Camera Raw filter, I assume. Thanks again.
Thank you
woah I live near there too =] I actually used to live on top of table mountain
Thank you for this video =)

Love your stuff, Josh, what version of PS are you using?
Hey Ian M, thanks. This is Photoshop CS6.
Paprika! :D :D :D :D Laughed out laud!!
Great video! Thank you! Music was super cheesy though. :D
The place I stay in India there is a plateau called table land which looks exactly like the one in your video.it's flat
Hey Joshua, do you use Lightroom too or mostly Photoshop? It'd be awesome if you did some Lightroom tutorials!
Nic Antaya Hey Nic, I mostly use Photoshop but I finally caved in and purchased light room last month and I am learning it so that I can start making LR tutorials soon.

What programs did you use in this video? I love your content by the way!
All these helpful videos and I can't seem to do it with ps-elements 13. It all seems so different. What am I missing?
Nice Ps-Tutorial! Now I have to recreate it in Capture One and GIMP :D
Challenge accepted ;-)

I kind of preferred it before the edit
From where I can get this colors option menu in the video
yeah, but can u do it in 1 minute? that would be real cool
but with commentary!
how did you get into that menu to edit the photo at the beginning?
Do you ever edit in Lr and then export to Ps or do you prefer to do it all in Ps?
How to open a picture in this "tab" you are working on? is it in photoshop or some other program (new to post processing)? Thank you.
If we don't have a raw image, is there a way to open up those options?
pretty new to photo and video editing, my question is do you recommend any other software besides Adobe that's not so expensive per month? maybe one that has a one time fee?
Gimp is a decent free software for photoediting i used it to draw graphics and edit photos when i got started.
Crack it
is there a reason to use ACR anymore when you can go back and forth between PS and LR?
Is that white screen where you can adjust colors and lights lightroom?
hello, how can i view the things that you can adjust the exposure or whatsoever? I dont know where is it :) thanks
CameraRAW plugin in Photoshop. RAW files are opened in it by default but you can also edit JPEGs with it (not as good).
I want to get a new camera. I know I want a Nikon DSLR but I would like some suggestions as far as what, and which lens' should I get?
still stumped on what u did in ps to get to that editing thing. how do i edit using all those controls?

Can I use Adobe Photoshop?
What photoshop screen is he using? And will this work if I did NOT shoot in RAW format?
No this will not work if you shoot in JPEG. There's not enough information in the JPEG file to grab all the stuff he's pulling out.
I think I found the tool he was using - there's a Camera Raw Filter that gives you similar tools to what you would have when importing a RAW photo. This must be something with the newer versions of photoshop, or maybe I never noticed it before. Seems to help a lot with my way too blue photos! :)
how do I post pictures I have made in medias? i'm kind new to photoshop c:
the program you use to edit first the photo is in photoshop or it's another program??
+Liliana Sanhueza Yup, the first part is done in Adobe Camera Raw, which is Photoshop's built-in raw converter.
+Alayna Tam, it all depends on what you want to shoot!

I am lost because I don't know how to get to that editing screen most of this video took place in.
Were you editing in a different platform than photoshop at the beginning?
It's Adobe Camera Raw - It pops up when you try to open a raw image.
Which Photoshop is this?
I use polarr photo editor on chrome.

sir pls tell me which photoshop is this?
CS4
is there any app for android that has these abilities?
Try snapseed, great app
Could’ve done all that with a graduated nd filter when the photo was taken.
How the? Mind blown.... HUH?
I only understood till you added the filters. After that it was rap music.
please upload the photoshop link

How did he get from PS to that white window? :/
when you open a raw image in photoshop it opens camera raw. It is the white window and its a plugin that comes with photoshop.
thanks bro, i didnt realize that i was shooting in jpeg
before he was in Photoshop then in 0.23s he open anther windows can anyone tell me how to do it ^-^ i am now in Photoshop
thats the CameraRaw plugin for PS. Just search for an tutorial on how to install it ;)
